I don’t think that could possibly be any further from the reality…But I feel like Saints and Dogs are closer to a premiership then we are

I don’t think that could possibly be any further from the reality…
Russell had to beat the fullback a couple of times but he was always outside his winger. Because we had an overlap ffsRussell had to work to get his tries. All the tries that were scored down Simmonsons wing were opposition players doing so untouched.
If he was playing to the game plan, nothing other than that kick. However, that game plan would have to be very slow, the vast majority of plays telegraphed and over all disjointed. What did JA actually do wrong today besides not set up a few tries? Guthos error cost us two tries today. We were off our game. Junior basically dropped a kick off which wasn’t picked up so we actually dropped two kick offs. Schoolboy stuff.
Its the effect he has on the side. What did JA actually do wrong today besides not set up a few tries? Guthos error cost us two tries today. We were off our game. Junior basically dropped a kick off which wasn’t picked up so we actually dropped two kick offs. Schoolboy stuff.
I never said otherwise. Russell had to put his body on the line for his tries. He didn’t have the red carpet rolled out for him like the tries we let in.Russell had to beat the fullback a couple of times but he was always outside his winger. Because we had an overlap ffs
He doesn't play eyes up?If he was playing to the game plan, nothing other than that kick. However, that game plan would have to be very slow, the vast majority of plays telegraphed and over all disjointed.
He’s still a boy and has a way to go, but if I compare him to some of the halves that have debuted over the last 5 years at or around his age, he doesn’t play at speed, doesn’t play eyes up, has an ok kicking game and his favourite play seems to crab and turn a forward back in.
He just doesn’t seem anywhere near as dynamic as a lot of emerging halves in our game.
Cartwright can't defend at centre. It's a very important defensive position. There's only four blokes at the club you'd trust to do a good job there and Dylan Brown is one of them. Actually Gutherson is probably the fifth.IMO he covers the halves as well as JA. He’s far more creative and with Moses and Reed both having solid kicking games, we don’t need a long kicking game from him if he needs to move into the halves. However, we wouldn’t need him to if we lose an outside back like we did today, as he can cover there. We can leave our first grader halves in their rightful position.
One play doesn’t make him Cody Walker. Only calling it as I see it.He doesn't play eyes up?
Missed have missed the try he scored against Souths? Chipped over the line when he noticed there was no fullback. Pretty eyes up footy as it gets.
Like Cartwright, Matterson is too cumbersome to defend in the backs. Also got no kicking game for a half.I think it would have been better to have Cartwright/Brown on the bench and either moving Matterson to centre or moving Brown to centre and Matterson to five eighth.
I remember when I used to joke about Ravalawa being a poor mans Sivo.Just my opinion. Saints are building something special imo. I feel they gave the best young talent in the comp.
This season and last season are/were our best chances by far. Most of the top sides are substantially weaker than they were a few years ago. I don’t think our 2017 side was even close. We lost Gutho during the season and I don’t think forwards such as Mannah, Alvaro, Moroea, Vave and Matagi would have stood up to the top sides at the time. Our current pack is waaaaay better. It’s a shame we don’t have 2019 form Fergo or Semi.Where are we at? Do people feel we are close to premiership?
2017 was our best side and chance. Are we better now? Its to early to tell but I don't think so. We had Manu Mau and Semi.
Genuine game breakers.
Well 1 play ruined Cody's grand final. One play doesn’t make him Cody Walker. Only calling it as I see it.
But it improved our ability to control the ball, which was our problem in that game, not our ability to score tries. No arguments here. Having a reserve grader in the halves though halted our ability to score tries.
Then defend Brown at centre and put Matterson at five eighth. It’s not like Brown does much kicking atm. Why try to find solutions to problems that don’t exist?Like Cartwright, Matterson is too cumbersome to defend in the backs. Also got no kicking game for a half.
Brett Kenny had no kicking game either. Terrible in the halves.Like Cartwright, Matterson is too cumbersome to defend in the backs. Also got no kicking game for a half.
It certainly does. It means you were good enough. Not every player is good enough, though if they were there would be no need to criticise your worst players. You could argue that bench players who only played 15 minutes proved nothing (it really depends on their involvement) but a starter or bench player who played long minutes has absolutely proved they had what it takes. You don’t seem to understand that winning a grand final by itself doesn’t tell you anything about your ability as a player.
So Drown defends one more out then. It’s not f**king rocket science.Cartwright can't defend at centre. It's a very important defensive position. There's only four blokes at the club you'd trust to do a good job there and Dylan Brown is one of them. Actually Gutherson is probably the fifth.
…and we were lucky to hold onto the lead obtained when he was off the field. So you’re saying we have JA taking up a bench spot in the event we have to play boring, slow and without creativity. Gotcha. But it improved our ability to control the ball, which was our problem in that game, not our ability to score tries.
The Titans were scoring at will as well up to a point. Do you have a scapegoat for whatever stopped that trend? Games change. The reason doesn't always have to support an agenda. It wasn’t our only problem, but it was a problem. We were scoring at will before he came on. That stopped instantly once we moved Brown from the halves. The fact our defence was horrendous doesn’t diminish this, particularly when it was the exact same scenario last year. He’s not yet a first grader and so he shouldn’t be in first grade yet.
