Got to laugh at everyone on here calling for Waqa to be dropped. When was the last time BA dropped an established First grader? He doesn’t sack players.

I don't disagree.

But today was mostly about our pack being dominated, imo.
Our pack wasn't dominated. We made 2266m compared to their 2396 but i think we had less runs and had 660 post contact metres compared to their 580. We also spent more time in their half and more time in their 20m zone. We were let down by poor decision making by our senior players and the absolute shit that Waqa Blake delivered in defence.

For my ultimate sin, I was there for both games, if Waqa and Fergo were terrible in NRL, Pensini and Dunster were just as bad in reggies.

The reserve grade missed Jakob as much as first side missed Dylan.

Ponder this, Manly scored all 5 tries down the side usually patrolled by Marata and Dylan, and the last try - Fergo got stood up by freaking Reuben Garrick.
The problem, as always, was the massive overlap, not the defender. In the case of 'experts' watching from the stands, you only notice because a defender tried to break up the play. If he had just held his position and allowed the defence to draw and pass it still would've been a line break but you wouldn't have even noticed the defender.

and Mattersons offload attempt off the ground and the middle forward (not sure which one maybe Paulo) forward pass in front of the posts 10 out, also happened in the first half....

additionally there was Sivo’s break where he slowed down, then gave it to *Moses (I think), who then f**ked up a simple draw and pass to Gutho (passes way too soon) for a try

*Opacic.

We under underestimate Drown cover defence on the edge. That’s why Blake deserves a game or 2 with Drown

You’re a brave man wanting to see two more games of waqa. The guys decision making and technique is all wrong. You can’t coach decision making, having him in the team is a liability. He’s good for letting 2 tries in a game. He has no idea out there. It’s mind blowing to think he kept getting selected last year.

He was very poor defensively last year too. Had the 4th most missed tackles in the comp and the most for any player besides a half. This doesn't take into account the amount of times he ran out of the line and tackled no one. He's easily the worst defensive centre in the comp and he adds f**k all in attack too.

Yeah, he misses to often, if you make the decision to run out you have to make the tackle.

Marata may occasionally get beaten for pace but gee his reads were great and he doesn’t miss after making a decision.

maybe Marata needs to slim down a bit in the off season and more permanently to centre......Blake to wing....

It's a really popular notion on here to lay the blame at Waqa Blake, or Dylan Brown's feet - but Paulo, and RCG were outplayed by their bench counterparts, and Arthur was the invisible man in attack.

I'm not a massive fan of Waqa Blake, but a few tries that were scored down that side were not his fault; Garrick's try in the second half, for instance. Blake stayed on his man, but Ferguson inexplicably came infield.

Our edge forwards played fine, and our benchies did their jobs - but I think Paulo, and RCG, were simply outmuscled today.

This game also proved what Dylan Brown does for the side, hd was missed badly today. And lol @ Lussick on the bench, what a waste of a spot. Rheed made a few mistakes but he one of the few out there that actually troubled them.
what would have worked better on the bench today? Dunster? Hipgrave?

I don’t agree that we lack speed in the backline. Blake, Ferguson, Sivo and Moses are all capable of scoring length of the field tries. I was watching some highlights of Waqa Blake at Penrith and he looks like a completely different player. He (as well as Ferguson) rarely seems to get the ball in space at Parra. I blame the attacking structures that are failing to create space on the right hand side so that Blake and Ferguson are being forced to try and brute force their way over.

Yep, while more speed to good, we have lost 2 games this year and neither is because of a lack of speed....

Actually when was the last time a lack of speed cost us a game....

BTW attacking structures no matter how good won’t work if make 12 mistakes attacking the opponents half....

Blake has to be turned into a winger or sent to Serbia it’s as simple as that. He’s not a first grade centre’s arsehole. Another athlete and not a footballer, had no instinct for the game whatsoever.

Bob Fulton was heavily involved with the club in the Barrett era. So players that (played today) have been there for a few years would all know him - Turbo, Jurbo, DCE, Parker, Tapau to name a few

isn’t / or until recently Fultons son Scott I think involved in recruitment for them. Plus think his daughter also had an administrative role...

I thought we made mistakes because of frustration caused by an inability to get over so we started attempting high risk plays.

That's only because he comes out of the line to disrupt the attack, which often forces him into low percentage tackle attempts. It's one case of the stats not being relevant.
He's easily the worst defensive centre in the comp and he adds f**k all in attack too.
He has been very poor this year, in both attack and defence. Though 2/3 of his games have been since returning from injury, defending outside a teenager.

Fantasy points (because they're a solid shorthand):
2020: 24.9 per game (22 games)
2021: 13.0 per game (3 games)

I'd like to see a few tweaks.
Oldfield to centre to replace Waqa. Oldfield is also very quick. He will bring pace to the team which is sorely lacking. Surely he cant be worse than Waqa
Then Lane back to edge starting.
Bench which will then provide plenty of grunt to look like this:
Kaufusi
Papali'i
Marata
Carty
Alternatively Marata to starting centre and Greig or Hipgrave on the bench..
