Yep... same goes for Mahoney.
I don’t think anyone wants to drop Mahoney, he’s a quality young hooker. However, I think we’re seeing the impact of such a massive workload played at high intensity week-in-week-out. I don’t know what the answer is though as we’ve gone into the season without a backup hooker or 14 who can do a job for 20 minutes. Perhaps Field would be up to the defensive demands in the middle for a short period, but I have my doubts. Maybe it’s a matter of lightening his defensive workload, but that will require other middles to step up in that regard.

What I am certain of though is that we are in real trouble at the business end of the season if Mahoney consistently puts out performances like he has the last few weeks.

One of the features of youngsters, no matter how talented, is that they remain capable of putting in an absolute shocker. For us this isn't just a Mahoney problem, but a Dylan Brown problem too. There is no chance of this not being a risk in the finals. It's the cost of having talented youngsters. Look at the Broncos in last year's finals.

Expecting Mahoney in particular to play 80 in the middle every week is lunacy and even sillier if hes carrying injuries. Hes just too valuable to our end of season chances. Hopefully a solution is found. Salmon should also be given a chance to spell Drown.

For sure, Mahoney needs a break. Should we give him some R&R against the Bulldogs and if so, who would you replace him with? Our options aren't extensive.

Too true mate. I guess our only options are Will Smith and Davis who was added to our top 30 from his previous development contract. Ive seen Smith do an honourable job there in the past provided he is told no kicking under any circumstances or it would result in him being transferred to gate/security duties immediately. Davis's one shift there wasnt of any note but if he cant do a job why promote him? That said, having little or no options is the issue. This is now our second season without addressing the problem. Maybe we are keeping our fingers crossed until Schnider is ready.

13 days ago Mahoney had a fantastic game against the Knights, now a coupla poor showings later and he's not an eighty minute hooker and won't last the season?

Give me a f**king break.
Nobody is doubting his ability or dependability. On the contrary. Hes that important there needs to be a management plan to ensure hes available and not burnt out. If hes carrying injuries even more so.

The slippery surface hasn't helped him or our style of play. He throws those 20m passes to our halves and when there's some dew on the ground and on the ball those longer passes aren't going to be as accurate as they are when it's dry. We should probably play our halves a bit closer to the ruck at night but it seems to be working fine so far.

Yeah, that's all true, but also as Pou said, players, particularly young blokes are gonna have poor games every now and then. It happens, you move on,

Well, let's hope out Centre Of Excellence starts producing more than better office space, training fields and gym equipment.

It's a short season, we went into with one recognised hooker, obviously we intended to play him eighty, every game ( or close enough to ) . If we aren't already managing his workload we aint about to start now.

Very salient point - perhaps it's not Mahoney playing poorly, but his halves standing too deep, that's the issue.

If the halves stood a little flatter, Mahoney's crisp service, and accuracy out of dummy-half, wouldn't be cause for concern.

I think it was Isaac John on Instagram who analysed a few of our plays and he pointed out the speed of Mahoney's passes from the ruck. Because they're so long and quick it doesn't give time for the middle defence to slide across so it's creating more 1 on 1 situations for our edge players.

If it's creating more scoring opportunities for us than it is slowing our play down then I'm all for us to continue our style of attack. I wouldn't really know if it is or isn't.

I dont think Reed has been overly poor

Last two games our completion rate has been poor in the first half, hence no one is gonna be playing that great, or as good as when we have completed well.
