Gee I hope that Mitch doesn’t do social media. I feel down just reading the pile on across multiple platforms.

Penrith = brilliant attacking team, full of energy, best halves in the game.

Parra = awful attacking team, slow, useless, both halves should be dropped

Yet surprisingly both teams have scored 79 tries this year
I think we should ignore the bottom 8.

We should just look at the top 8 teams as it's a totally different game.

We struggle to score against the top 8.

Against the lower teams, their errors and lack of fitness allows us to score easily

Well go out the back door come semis time

The thing is. Moses and Gutherson get all the good ball when we have pushed the defense back or a semi break.
Dylan gets given the shit ball when defense is set. His options are run, pass to someone in less space or kick. Unsure what else can do if the defense is set.
All our structured set plays are using Moses and The King.

So it is hard to blame Dylan. But perhaps the game plan. Plus Guthersons bal playing skills. Look at other 5/8s who have a dominant halfback and ball playing fullback.
Maybe Dylan shouldn't stand so flat foooted against a rushing defense

The seven tackle set rule needs to be adjusted. I can understand it remaining if the ball is kicked dead from further than halfway (or hell, even from more than twenty out). Fair. Though any kick from inside the oppositions half that goes dead or out in goal, a catch in the in goal or an error in the same results in a penalty that doesn’t fit the crime.

There were three incidents benefiting Penrith last night that I can recall:

- Blake attempting to ground the ball off a grubber,
- Sivo attempting a miraculous put down, and;
- A booming 45 metre field goal attempt from Moses.

Penrith went on to put points on the board off the back of two of these. Why should teams be rewarded for likely errors that otherwise result in brilliant play?

Six tackles with a free twenty metres and often momentum (that if you now try halt results in additional tackles) is good enough. The rule was brought in to penalise negative play when attempting to nullify fullbacks. We are going to see more and more star players in our game hold back and take the ‘safe’ option if an alteration isn’t made!

Think our D has improved greatly since those changes were made. We had Jake in team at time and his D is poor which contributed to our loss.

Good D last nite but Gutho was poor imo, made pass for Panthers intercept try and forward pass that lead to field goal. Big mistake from BA to start Niukore & RCG imo, we run too one out which Penrith D eat up all nite. We had no variety but once Paulo came on and started offloading our attack flowed much better.

Btw Dunster is a lot better in D than Ferguson, doubt he'll get back in to team except for injury replacement. Dunster turns quickly and defuses kicks whereas Fergo is still turning QE2 style.
We've only played 3 teams who are in the bottom 4 teams on for and against since then, before last night, which has kept Dunster in the team. Dunster will soon become a massive liability if remains in the side.

He doesn't even look like an NRL player of the future for mine.

It is an indicator that the rest of our attack outside of kicks is not up to scratch.
OR you play to your strengths?

We are in the top teams in almost all if the stats, but you still seek to bring us down.

You dont offer constructive criticism or offer reserved positivity. You just seek to bring us down, win lose or draw.

Over 30% of our tries off kicks, 2 more last night. Some of our sets last night it was like we were rushing through the set to just get to the kick.

But we got close so we should just suck it up and be happy. Being the best of the worst is really exciting!!
Tries off kicks are still worth 4 points right?
And if you have the ability to (1) kick to a precise location (2) have the chasers there to pressure the catcher (3) have the skill to get the ball back and score from it, isn't that a valid form of attack?

Or should we just ignore that aspect of the game? Rep selectors always look for halves with a good attacking kicking game, why is that?

As to the general standard of footy this season;

There was that prescient observation on the game day thread a couple of weeks ago that this season is one in which:

“ We have 16 clubs doing everything they can to capture the wooden spoon”

It was one of those lu moments where you wish you’d thought of it yourself.

Mays try was disappointing.

True, but for me the difference between a win or lose (apart from the obvious 80m missed goal) was the Gutho to Carty forward pass.

Just as crucial at the intercept he threw. If he went short to Blake it was a simple draw and pass of the fullback.

True we need a better winger but he is an improvement on Fergo.

That pass cost that nothing, Burton hit the post with that attempt, i'd argue the 45m attempted field goal with about 2mins left which led to a 7 tackle set hurt us more. It was a low % play and yet more proof when the heat is on Moses buckles. Which is as shame because his kicking game up till that point was one of the main reasons we were still in the game.

Stats only tell part of a story, and you would expect the teams in the Top 6, who are significantly better than the other 10 teams, to be amongst the best teams statistically.

Let's see how we're travelling in eight weeks time. Given the ladder positions you'd expect we'd have to perform poorly from here for us not to make the Top 4 now.

Beating so many shit teams has masked the many deficiencies we have. They need to be improved to beat the stronger teams at their best come Finals.
