But but he smashed jfh and the panthers in the regular season game last year.

Forwards need to be able to bust the odd tackle. I dont feel like he can. Same goes for Makatoa. Both are ok back ups.
The others in reserves have better tackle breaking abilities. Question is defense

Watching how nikko or Moylan combine was lovely

Don't really see it so much with our halves

We play split sides and run out of room with guth the sweeper.
Without sivo smashing everyone, it doesn't work too well and we need more decoys. They make the edge defence take wrong options.

The Cum Throw have Cum undone once again.
TCT do provide good value its obivously one sided and parra eyed but there is at times lack of reality when talking about players. But I also understand they are probably worried about losing there exclusive access to training if they start potting players.

I did happen to have a look over there this morning. I dont post on there so not entirely sure who the regulars are but there were 9-10 comments in the post match thread questioning BAs selection of his son.

So we aren't only ones on here thinking its absolute madness.

If we're any chance of beating storm next week this is the side:
1.Gutho
2.Blake
3.Opacic
4.Penisini
5.Simonsson
6.D.Brown
7.Moses
8.RCG
9.Mahoney
10.Paulo
11.Lane
12.Carty
13.N.Brown
14.Rein
15.Papali'i
16.Makatoka
17. Rodwell
Rodwell needs a call-up FFS ran for 224m last week in reserve grade, Mahoney is flat out playing 80 Rein needs to be there. Papali'i needs to be on the bench for impact when RCG and Paulo come off and can defend in the middle better then on the edge.

Our worse performances last season come against Manly and Souths. They ate us up by going wide early and creating space.

What's happened with the lesser sides the first two weeks is they've decided to use this as the blueprint. As will most the weaker sides. They can't beat us up the guts.
With Matto and Marata out who are two of our best defenders we will be exposed. Get them back and the problem may fix itself. No guarantee but a good chance. If the sides can't go around us and that's obviously the game plan they will self destruct. Pretty simple. They'll start to push more passes etc.

Penrith,Storm,Roosters will be able to play their natural game and beat us.
Manly and Souths natural game is to go wide and are very good at it. We need to adopt Penriths style to shut them down. Otherwise we just can't combat that style of play.
We always have trouble against sides who can move the ball fast with speed out wide. Its a problem we haven't addressed properly now in 3yrs. MJ in defense helped. Everyone on here blamed Taka and then Fergo/Sivo for rushing up. They never where the problem. It still exists.

The problem was never our structures. Merkins just wish it was because that's something that can change in the space of a week. Our problem is lack of ability to sustain effort and concentration over 80 minutes. But there's only a couple of teams that don't have obvious weaknesses. Penrith and Melbourne, maybe the Roosters. Their weakest areas are just average: Penrith's middle attack, Melbourne's kicking game, Roosters... depth?

I would say the only team this year that doesn't have obvious weaknesses is Penrith. If you think that Melbourne and the Roosters don't have obvious weaknesses then you haven't been watching close enough.

So far the Panthers have been as good as it gets. Every other team has had massive ups and downs throughout games. I feel that this year from what we have seen so far is that they are all very beatable bar the Panthers. We can still beat the Panthers though if we brought our "A" game and some luck.

It is a pity though that our coach just can't get us playing in the style of the Panthers or the Roosters. They play the type of footy that I think would win us a premiership way easier then how we play at the moment. Looks like we will have to rely on the power game again this season. Maybe he has decided that we will take a lower intensity approach to the start of the season so that we may have more juice at the backend where it counts. Lets hope that that is all it is and that it works.

Also our wing issues are not helping at all. Just a thought......With the Premiership Rugby final finishing on the 18th of June, it would mean that even if the Bristol Bears(Semi's team) were to play in it, Semi Radradra would be free of his club commitments, right? Well that then might give us a window of opportunity and we could do a SBW style cameo from August for a couple of months in the NRL.

Money wise surely it wouldn't cost much more then around $200K and it may even be something that would scratch an itch for Semi too with unfinished business playing and winning an NRL Premiership with his old club and where it all started at Parramatta.

In my opinion it should be something that we should consider seeing how weak our options are out wide. Even when Sivo comes back there are no guarantees with that bloke on how he comes back mentally and performance wise. Also who knows what other injuries to the backline we may have by then too. If we are still contenders at that stage of the season it might be an attractive proposition.

But if we were to do it we should put quiet feelers out to his people to gauge the response. In fact I would use whoever Semi had the best friendship and connection with back here when he was with us to make the initial inquiry directly to him. If we could pull it off it would be a massive boost for us and the game as a whole publicity wise too. The buzz would be enormous. I feel it is the sort of thing that Politis and Co would try to make happen if Semi was one of theirs just like they did with Sonny.

The power and speed that we would gain would be like an injection of rocket fuel. Something that is so desperately needed to ignite our hapless backline at the moment. We need to be looking at every angle, loophole and or edge that is possible to bring us home a premiership. This may give us that 1 or 2 percent more that is needed to finally brings it to us.

Is there somewhere people are watching our reserve grade or are you just looking up stats?

This is in equal parts the most out there, and best, idea I have heard in a long time. Can you imagine it?

Just food for thought - a lot of people saying we didn't deserve to win, and the Sharks were the better side...

But it took them until the final minute - off a forward pass - to finally put us away...

According to some we had the best depth in the competition though that we could afford Nathan Brown to start in reggies round 1 even if he wasn't fully match fit.

Are you forgetting that over the last 2 weeks, we have been without at various stages:

Maika Sivo
Sean Russell
Ryan Matterson
Nathan Brown
Marata Niukore

And won our first game, and lost off a forward pass by two points in our second game?

Hardly a team that is struggling for depth...

Our issue is that Matterson - our best defender - missed the game against the Sharks...

I Waqa continues his great form on the wing he may stay there. Who knows. I like him at centre but he was excellent yesterday.
Him and Sivo carting it back causes issues for opposition. Without Sivo there what we now know is he isn't the fault why sides are scoring out wide so easily. It still is happening.

Pensini has a centre spot covered. It would mean finding another. Who knows, Louizo may step up. Opacic is not terrible. His defense is great. Just bad attack.

Mahoney imo isn't 80min player. He will burn out. Let's see how Hands and Rein go over the next 4 weeks.

As far as other bench spots go Stone,Kafusi,Makatoa are far from safe.

Stone isn't big enough, Makatoas legs speeds to slow and Kafusi who is the best of lot is one dimensional.

Greig,Cartwright,Rodwell all have more x factor then any of them. It's just their defense isn't as good.

Once Matto and Marata are back I'd rather see N.Brown and Papa on bench. Bringing some super charge to the side.
Rein/Hands/Bryce might be the 14 and all would give some spark.
Greig certainly would also give some x factor if able to sort his defense......

BA has picked his best side for the first 2 rnds. Buy these guys all have a chance to push for bench spots. There may even be a few others like Morreti for example. The good thing is that there is a few spots up for grabs if you can earn it.

I loved Brown off the bench - I thought his aggression, and speed, was dynamic off the bench for us.
