Quality No. 9s are rare. I think we will struggle when Rheed goes. More than we would if Drown left.

I feel like at anytime a heap of good ones will pop up. I remember not so long ago NSW had no centres.
Now Kotoni,Penisini,Tago,Critchton,Lomax popped up out of nowhere.

There isn't much around now. Korisau, Cook are ageing. But still great. B.Smith,H.Grant are very good. Mahoneys good.Brailey also is a gun.

But I do wonder all these good hookers are in good sides. Is it the hookers making them great or the sides making them look better? Prob worth taking note of the sides performance while the 9 is missing.

There is no way that they wanted to lose Burton. Stop pulling your dick.

Did I say that? He had signed for the Dogs before they even played him at centre. He was there as a back up half. They had two great ones however. The nsw halves.
Squad balance. They also knew Burton long term will cost 1 mill plus a season while Luai won't. He signed on for around 650k.

So yes they could of kept Burton before paying up for Critchton but Burton is a half and long term wants a half money. They have those position covered.

Just like if JA was demanding 650k from other clubs. Would we let him go with Moses and D.Brown signed up for 3 more years? Of course we would. Balance.

How did we go without Mahoney last year?

Reed was part of all our big losses actualy. The hammerings he was in the side.

We beat Storm and Knights without him at end of year And a close lose to Penrith. I feel like the Penrith and Storm game where our best two performance all season.

Still think 2005 was our biggest chance and our biggest f**k up. It was the most confident I have ever been going into a finals series since 1986.
OK, I am going to publicly take the blame for 2005.
I have been to every Eels GF since 1978 when I moved back to Sydney as a child.

In 2005 I allowed my now-wife to plan our wedding for 1st Oct. This meant we were flying overseas the day of the GF and I wouldn't have been able to go. Instead of me missing it, I secretly wished they wouldn't make it and the rest is history.

Sorry lads.

Anyhows lets see how Reed goes this season. Yet to have an LBA or TA.
He missed 31 tackles last season and 14 already this one.

He was dangerous last season and now sides are working him over and targeting him.

It's very early in the season but players who have big years get watched more. It is what makes guys like Moses so good. They've been targeted for years.

Thats bullshit. Our biggest loss came the week after he was injured when we played Manly. At least get your f**ken facts right.

We lifted in the finals without him and played great against the Storm but we missed his creativity when it counted. Energy and effort alone wasn't enough.

Our six worse games Reed played in 5/6
He was part of our 28 -0 to roosters
Both our beatings from South
One of our 2 beatings from Manly.
Part of our hammering from the Dragons,

Another game we impressed and should of won was 13-12 vs Penrith. Lussick was hooker.

So pick our best 6 performances of 2021

Beating Storm 1 st time Reed played
Beating Storm 2nd times
Losing twice to Penrith by 1 and 2 points.
Beating Roosters 1st time rnd Reed played
Beatings Knights in finals

Reed played in 2/6

That's how I broke it down. Our best performances where against good sides. Our worse also against good sides bar Dragons.

You originally said he was part of all of our big losses. Now you are back pedalling and making it up.

Our effort and intensity isn't dictated by the hooker. When we have lost big its because our entire team has folded. When our forwards are up and dominating there isn't a sensible person in the world that would prefer Lussick or Stone over Mahoney.

I think you are being incredibly dismissive and disrespectful and should apologise to him and his mother.

No I wouldn't prefer them. But under a salary cap I'd rather Moses,Brown,Lussick over Moses,Arthur,Mahoney.

Anyhows my point is Mahoney is a good player. How good I am unsure. He has had one great year in the NRL. And a few where he was average but also learning so can be excused. He may keep projecting up.
He needs to back this season up to match lasts to convince me he will be a top shelf hooker form the best part of his career. If he goes back to average this season then unsure how I'd view him long term tbh. I'd be leaning towards just a solid hooker.

From a different perspective…. I honestly can’t believe reed would choose the bulldogs over the Eels. Given the current state of both sides and his career progression since he has been in our system I’m flabbergasted he would opt to take up the bulldogs offer … I really think he has f**ked himself and in hindsight he will regret it and we will do ok without him

Those two options aren't realistic. There are way more scenarios that could play out.

As I said right back at the beginning No. 9 is a hard spot to replace. Second only to No. 7 in my opinion.

Much harder to replace than a running 5/8. I love what DB is doing this year but I think we will really miss Mahoney next year. I'm disappointed we couldn't keep him.
