Not sure if that "deal" is still in place as it was a part of the previous AFL rights deal... still from what I hear down South the Telecrap is fast becoming an AFL paper anyway.

You mean the place is full of Victorians?

A poorly written article full of contradictions and inaccuracies.

Funny moment at halftime when they brought in a yank to make a comment who said he had watched some American Rugby 'but you can see this is the game at a much higher level'. He was probably wondering where all the fat guys cuddling had gone.

Obviously her knowledge of rugby league could be put on the back of a postage stamp.

Why doesn't she stick to articles of the afl guy helping an old lady to cross the road?

A female journalist bagging rugby league lacks credibility before she put pen to paper. Imagine a male journalist bagging netball the whole world would be down on him for his knowledge of something he knows nothing about.

Stick to writing feel good stories about Netball Bec..........

I am happy to admit that afl travels well from melbourne to adelaide then onto perth, That's about as far as that game can travel.

She is absolute fool, and people with attitudes like hers ARE THE REASON, that RL maybe hasn't expanded as quickly as some of us have wished.

But clubs like South London Storm and The London Skolars, and nations like Lebanon, Fiji and Serbia, are living proof that what she wrote is absolute crap.

vlad sometimes its not about money. Soccer is a game that just can't sell in America, its the game itself, no amount of money can fix that.

Americans are blood thirsty, and league is a tough sport. Amidst all the money AFL and Union can chuck around compared to League we still hold our own.

yep RL has expanded far & wide in the last hundred years . This year's world cup will be a testimony to those efforts .

btw the MLS is bigger than RL in this country .

The MLS has teams in cities with populations larger than Australia... Of course it's going to bigger you dimwit. If anything it should underscore how important it is that we create a niche market there.

How's the AFL expansion going apart from Nauru?
Don't start your stupid crap in this thread.

And don't be jealous that Rugby League had the vision to take an exhibition match to the US and sell itself to the people of the states.

I guess all the media coverage on Jay Leno among other shows was nothing also hey.
And the Americans interviewed at the ground meant nothing either.
Or the fact that Russell Crowe has stated they have had some massive interest from people on the West Coast of the US now to start a League competition on the west coast.
The AMNRL currently is made up of teams predominantly on the East Coast.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good sh*t stirring operation for you.

umm in 1986 we took the pinnacle of our game to the US & you know what impact it had ? zero .

20 years later we take a mickey mouse trial game and some people think it's akin to the resurection . zero interest & zero coverage .

If you look at the AFL website they try and kid themselves that they have competitions running all over the world too (when the reality is they barely have the southern states of Australia)

http://www.afl.com.au/InternationalCupNews/News/NewsArticle/tabid/208/Default.aspx?newsId=54700

at the very top of the bulls#$t article is the important word describing those competitions ... "amateur"... in other words a couple of ex-pats kicking a ball around then going to the pub afterwards .

RL should concentrate on what it's good at ... fierce club competition on the eastern seaboard , state of origin & a tri-series ... to pretend there will ever be anymore than that is fanciful .
