Being on Jay Leno isn't something that is fanciful.

It's about gaining exposure.
Does Jay Leno not draw in a TV audience in the vacinity of a few million viewers?
Viewers who would previously have not known about Rugby League.

Or the fact that Russell Crowe has stated they have had some massive interest from people on the West Coast of the US now to start a League competition on the west coast.

care to define "massive" interest ?

btw Jacksonville is on the east coast

Well, derrr.

The west coast has gained interest because of the game on the east coast.

umm in 1986 we took the pinnacle of our game to the US & you know what impact it had ? zero .

20 years later we take a mickey mouse trial game and some people think it's akin to the resurection . zero interest & zero coverage .

I assume you mean the 1987 State of Origin game in LA?
Facts are important.

As is your quote stating there was no interest and no coverage.
Do some research mate, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
There was plenty of interest and media coverage all the way through the build up.

You idiot.
I know Jacksonville is on the east coast.

Where did I say it wasn't?
You obviously can't read posts correctly.

I'll say it again for you.
The AMNRL is predominantly on the east coast of the US(inclusive of Jacksonville Axemen), Russell Crowe now confirmed he received interest from the West Coast of the US during the build up to help start up some teams over there.
I don't have all the details about the interest, maybe you can get in touch with Rusty for us and find out.
I was repeating what he had stated.

Who is shocked that fans of the GoOsters don't appreciate attempts to grow the game on any level. Take away their league club and their district would never know they existed.

If you look at the AFL website they try and kid themselves that they have competitions running all over the world too (when the reality is they barely have the southern states of Australia)

http://www.afl.com.au/InternationalCupNews/News/NewsArticle/tabid/208/Default.aspx?newsId=54700

at the very top of the bulls#$t article is the important word describing those competitions ... "amateur"... in other words a couple of ex-pats kicking a ball around then going to the pub afterwards .

RL should concentrate on what it's good at ... fierce club competition on the eastern seaboard , state of origin & a tri-series ... to pretend there will ever be anymore than that is fanciful .

Finally sense.

Vlad is a man with a brain.

The rest of you are living in a fantasy.

Vlad, what has any of this got to do with what I said? You wouldn't be trying to avoid some hard truths would you now?

It was a one off game, what kind of impact did you expect it to have?

Who has said it's a "resurection"?

For a "mickey mouse trial game" it's garnered a sh*tload of interest. International celebrities, setting a ground record, local press all covering it, etc.

It is a very solid base that every other code in the country wishes they had, however there is no reason to rest on our laurels and ignore other area's.

I don't even know where to start... Did you even read any of the replies to Bourbon Beccy's gossip column posted in this very thread ?

errr he follows AFL

I dont care if he follows marbles in Mongolia mate.

That promotion of phonechukkas ego was ONLY a chance for an actor to show his wallywood mates his new plaything.

No-one in there right mind would think its a promo for League or was even meant to be. And as for those that dream on the US ever being able to compete on ANY level all I can add is  .

Yep he has such a good brain on him that the facts he tries to quotes he gets wrong.
Pretends to be a League supporter, but death rides it. We all know VLAD is an AFL supporter or most likely is Rebecca Wilson.

What game was taken to the US in 1986 Vlad?
Don't try and hide from your stuff ups.

As I said in my previous post which you quoted...try doing some research before you make foolish comments.
If you cared to venture to the International section you would see plenty of links to the interest and media coverage the game has received in the build up.

How's the AFL's trip to Sth Africa coming along?

So you missed the decent effort they put in against Samoa - which included 14 NRL and ESL players - just a few months ago?
Or maybe you missed the game against Australia where they led at halftime?

VLAD, go have a look in the fight club forum, there is some great photos from the International AFL world Cup in there.

lol @ banana breath

get it thru your thick skull , you knuckle dragger .... 100 years of RL ... the only expansion has been to Perth (dead) , Adelaide (dead) & Melbourne (propped up by News Ltd $$$ or they'd be dead too)

please don't don't come back with "oh but Townsville & Brisbane & Gold Coast are expansion ya know !!" ...

RL is a great game ... but it is what it is and will never be anything more .

Meh.

Every dog has its day.

Play Australia or NZ or GB at full strength over a full 3 test series and what do you think would happen???

FFS PNG or France wouldnt dare try that and theyve been at the game for alot longer than the US.

Do you seriously thing ANYONE wouldve turned up if not for phonechukka being involved????

Do you seriously think ANYONE will remember next week when they have the superbowl or after?????

I dont care if souffs make it a yearly event, it wont change a thing.

Sorry I just cant see it mate.

I love League. Id rather see a game like this in Perff or PNG or Wales or Samoa even. Somewhere where theres at least a CHANCE of some future, maybe.

Just my opinion. It may not be popular but thats it mate.
