It's about gaining exposure.
Does Jay Leno not draw in a TV audience in the vacinity of a few million viewers?
Viewers who would previously have not known about Rugby League.

thommo4pm said:Or the fact that Russell Crowe has stated they have had some massive interest from people on the West Coast of the US now to start a League competition on the west coast.
vlad said:care to define "massive" interest ?
btw Jacksonville is on the east coast
vlad said:umm in 1986 we took the pinnacle of our game to the US & you know what impact it had ? zero .
20 years later we take a mickey mouse trial game and some people think it's akin to the resurection . zero interest & zero coverage .

If you look at the AFL website they try and kid themselves that they have competitions running all over the world too (when the reality is they barely have the southern states of Australia)
http://www.afl.com.au/InternationalCupNews/News/NewsArticle/tabid/208/Default.aspx?newsId=54700
at the very top of the bulls#$t article is the important word describing those competitions ... "amateur"... in other words a couple of ex-pats kicking a ball around then going to the pub afterwards .
RL should concentrate on what it's good at ... fierce club competition on the eastern seaboard , state of origin & a tri-series ... to pretend there will ever be anymore than that is fanciful .
Isn't their another game you could deathride? - you seem like a women's netball kind of guy to me.STSAE said:Finally sense.

It was a one off game, what kind of impact did you expect it to have?vlad said:umm in 1986 we took the pinnacle of our game to the US & you know what impact it had ? zero .
Who has said it's a "resurection"?vlad said:20 years later we take a mickey mouse trial game and some people think it's akin to the resurection
For a "mickey mouse trial game" it's garnered a sh*tload of interest. International celebrities, setting a ground record, local press all covering it, etc.vlad said:zero interest & zero coverage .
It is a very solid base that every other code in the country wishes they had, however there is no reason to rest on our laurels and ignore other area's.vlad said:If you look at the AFL website they try and kid themselves that they have competitions running all over the world too (when the reality is they barely have the southern states of Australia)

thommo4pm said:I assume you mean the 1987 State of Origin game in LA?
Facts are important.
As is your quote stating there was no interest and no coverage.
Do some research mate, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
There was plenty of interest and media coverage all the way through the build up.

vlad said:interest where ? here ? at souths.com.au ? somewhere in leeds ?
no coverage on tv ... no coverage in the US outside of Jacksonville ...
sounds like a tax write off by Rusty & HaC .
So you missed the decent effort they put in against Samoa - which included 14 NRL and ESL players - just a few months ago?STSAE said:And as for those that dream on the US ever being able to compete on ANY level all I can add is  .
