Red Dead Redemption - Grand Theft Western... Oh My!!!

I found the easiest way to win the duels was to shoot their gun hand. Requires FAR less shots but admittedly is far less satisfying

Did anyone else suck ass at the duels?? Took me about 5 goes each time...

I could place about 6 shots on the target but never get the first bullet out...

Yeah, I sucked big time at duels and I knew I was missing something. I saw someone else do it properly on youtube, it's more about targeting and pressing the trigger when the cursor turns white than getting the most shots away.

More accurate shots fill the blue meter faster, first one full wins the duel.

I've never lost a duel. Must be really lucky. I just wait until the curser goes white and then blast away, generally in the face region.

Last night I started doing the Free Roam challenge of clearing gang hideouts with thrown or melee weapons only. Damn. That's hard.

Great game first run through but like most Rockstar games there's no replay value, online sucks big time allowing dorks to kick people for no reason ruins free roam if you're lucky to find someone online.

Bears and cougars are the bane of my RDR existence.

Fun game. Played through once, just finishing off bits and pieces now, that will do me, don't do the online thing.

aha...Yeah those bears are annoying as f**k... Nothing like raiding a gang hideout around Talltrees and clearing the area then throwing the wanted man on the back of your horse only for some random bear to annihilate your ass...

Tbh, the only cougar death i've had has been that surprise one during that mountain mission...

For those who remember Rockstar Games Red Dead Revlolver we remember it for its trademark Rockstar style and an outside the square approach.
We also remember imagining what it would be like if it was opened up to a more GTA style of open world gameplay...

This was in a pre- GTAIV and pre RAGE (Rockstar Advance Gaming Engine) era where sandbox games where just beginning (largely thanks to Rockstar) to come into the fray...

Well years after the original comes a totally revamped addition to the Red Dead world.

Rockstar Games present: Red Dead Redemption

IGN first preview:

Trailer at Gamesradar:

I hired RD Redemption from my local video store for a week and just managed to finish it. Might buy it one of these days and attempt to finish all the bounties etc in it.

I f**king loved the game all over. Only just got a PS3 last year so have never played any of the GTAs but I loved the whole concept of RSDR given my fascination with all things country and western. The banjo picking on the soundtrack was f**king epic! ;-);-)

There is one part on the map where you are guaranteed to get killed by a cougar if you hang around for too long.

On the trail just before one of the bridge crossings into Mexico there are cougars galore.

Great place to get off your horse with the semi-auto shottie and make a quick $500 killing and skinning cougars. Much more fun than playing 5 finger fillet too (the other easy money task in the game)

Yeah, true.

If you lurk up in Tall Trees after dark you will get mauled but something with teeth.

Bears were the highlight.

I remember riding over to help one of the 'blue dot strangers' who was about to be hung in Tall Trees. Only to find two bears mauling the sh*t out of the strangers horses. Needless to say I lasted about five seconds longer.

Great game.

what gun do you guys use to get the 1 shot kill a bear rank? I got one when I guy was being chased in that mountain town. I've been running around trying to one shot kill bears with a sniper (straight in the head and they keep coming) and I've done one with a shotgun but it didn't rank?

There is an epic hunting rifle which I haven't purchased yet (its never available anywhere) but I would say is the one to use.

In Single Player there is a Buffalo Rifle which is a one shot kill thing.

I did the challenge with that but in Free Roam I used the sniper rifle.

The more powerful shotguns also can one shot the bears.

Go into Dead Eye, hit them flush in the face and they will go down.

The funniest one I found was I thi k SP level 8 master hunter, "kill a beer with a melee knife" - I wasn't silly, so shot him a couple of times with a pistol to weaken him, then the f**ker took off - Spent 5 minutes chasing him around :D lol
