Redcliffe put their hand up

I think it's a shrewd move if "South Queensland Dolphins" is their pick. A good nod to the Crushers brief attempt at being a cross-town rival to the Broncos as well. Maybe they could even hook into that and wear a vertically striped red/white/grey jersey as heritage at some stage - the Titans have sometimes worn the old Seagulls jersey in Titans colours after all.

It also means they can be a club for Brisbane AND the Sunshine Coast, at a time when the Sunshine Coast isn't ready for a top tier team of their own. (Whether they ever will be is perhaps a debatable question)

I think this model could be the way for a future 3rd Brisbane team, going west - Queensland *somethings* (maybe a snake emblem instead of Jets) - Green/brown colours, most games at Suncorp, 1 or 2 at Toowoomba, training & HQ based in Ipswich.

That way you have the Broncos as undeniably a city team, Dolphins playing central but having the Sunshine Coast as secondary market.. and Snakes playing Central but having the country towns to the west as secondary market. We could also have Gold Coast take a game or two to Tweed Heads- the game against Newcastle springs to mind. Play that in a heritage Gold Coast-Tweed Giants jersey.. either in the original silver or Titans colours.

I was previously thinking that the Firebirds were the best bid for Brisbane 2, but if the majority of home games for Brisbane 2 and eventually 3 are at workable mix of central-stadium strategy & a regional approach - then that's the way forward for the greater Brisbane/SEQ area IMO.

If a club is going to have a game or two each year in a smallish boutique stadium, make those games in a regional centre that's not big enough to sustain a fulltime NRL team on their own. Don't bother with regular season games in Brisbane suburbs... as that just leads to the muddle we have in Sydney.
Sunshine Coast will be ready the population growth and support of the game will demand it

Need more than one game at sunny coast to appeal to us, look how successful the storm were up here.
I’m hoping for 2-3 games for me to get a membership and support the team.
Out of curiosity, assuming your a sharks supporter
If any team committed a permanent 2-3 games a season the the SC would you swap allegiances? or only if it were the dolphins?

Those are fair points.. but keep in mind that feeder arrangements can change over time. I wonder if the Sunshine Coast Falcons would switch allegiances from Melbourne Storm to South Queensland Dolphins in return for a guaranteed game or two there every season? Yes, the main feeder club for SQ Dolphins would be Redcliffe, but I think dual feeder club arrangements have happened in the past.

They happen now, Melbourne have two feeder teams. The Sunshine Coast were Manly’s feeder team not that long ago.

I think embracing the Sunshine Coast would be a smart move for the Dolphins,
having six games up here was amazing, there is huge NRL support up here in one of Australia’s fastest growing areas.

Also let’s say Cronulla were playing the dolphins I think opposing fans would rather travel to the Sunshine Coast for a nice holiday to watch their team in winter and than Redcliffe or Brisbane.

Also the Sunshine Coast has so many people originally from other areas so much like the Gold Coast a large opposition fan base is guaranteed.

I will always support Cronulla with dolphins as my second team but would definitely buy a dolphins membership if they legitimately represent the Sunshine Coast with more than one game.
I went to all six Melbourne games up here and there is massive underestimated in my opinion rugby league support up here.

I actually believe that unlike the Gold Coast people who move to the Sunshine Coast from other areas which is the majority of the population are far more willing to embrace a new team whilst still supporting their old team, all of my friends from other areas would support a Sunshine Coast team if it existed.

The Sunshine Coast is growing at such a rapid rate it would be a shame if it was totally ignored in a Redcliffe bid.

I loved having the Storm up here on the coast and it showed its support of the NRL, I hope at a minimum regular footy up here is guaranteed the council have already invested heavily in the stadium and have put forward another 23m towards an upgrade.

In answer to you question any team that supported the Sunshine Coast would have my support, shit I went to Melbourne games and enjoyed it and I hate Melbourne

I believe in supporting the area I choose to call home, that’s why I’m a Cronulla fan because I’m from Cronulla.

I believe in supporting your area.

and let me tell you moving Cronulla to the SFS would be a massive failure.
How do you know that?
My opinion is it would take them about 15 years of being slightly worse off, then it would become a way bigger club than it could ever become if it stays in Cronulla.

No Cronulla fans would go to the SFS, they won’t even go to Kogarah !
The club would die well before the 15 years you say it would take to succeed,

The Sutherland shire population is large enough to justify a team.

okay maybe cronulla is too weak but I think other clubs should move to SFS, we are talking about what will be a magnificent RL stadium in the heart of a city that has been neglected by RL.
There is 1 team representing the city, eastern suburbs, the whole northern suburbs and the south sydney area. Embarrassing.

Agreed but unfortunately fans won’t leave their area.
Souths should play at the SFS and maybe some tigers games.
There is a reason the NRL want to invest in local stadiums, centralised stadiums will not work in rugby league.

I don't think Souths belong in the city any more. They sort of quit on it. Give someone else a crack at it.
