Redcliffe put their hand up

Main concern remains that a dolphins club will largely draw most of its support from the Redcliffe region and with the best will in the world you’re not going to get 20k people from that region travelling to Suncorp for games. They could end up with some very ugly crowd acts until they can convince the govt to behold them a new $250mill stadium

How do fans from Logan, Ipswich, Morton bay get to Broncos games?!

Thats not happening, they are playing in suncorp, same as the ipswich bid, both bids to me are the same distance from suncorp to their respective areas that they represent with the same issues

Yeh similar issues, which is why Firehawks could be the smoky that wins the prize.

Dolphins should look at playing 3 games against low drawing out of state teams at Dolphin Oval, 3 against middle-tier teams at Sunshine Coast Stadium and 6 at Lang Park against Broncos, Cowboys, Storm, Titans, Warriors and Eels.

yeh great business model, half your games in stadiums under 12k capacity! That’ll get the cash tills ringing lol

Train would probably be the best option. I live in the northern suburbs of Logan, so I drive to Eight Mile Plains Busway and0 catch the free shuttle bus. I was talking to a local resident about this last fortnight. She said she no longer goes to Lang Park as there's not enough parking at Eight Mile Plains Busway and it takes too long getting to and from Lang Park. It's the same reason I gave up going and just attend Queensland Cup games.

You keep forgetting that matches at Dolphin Oval won't cost them rent as they own the ground. To draw even at Lang Park after paying the enormous rental fee you probably need at least 20k flowing through the gates. 12k at Dolphin Stadium will be more profitable than 20k at Lang Park. Games that won't even break even at Lang Park should be played at Dolphins Stadium.

how much is the rental fee for Suncorp for an nrl game?

you’re talking a lost revenue from ticket sales of around $320k plus probably the same again in Missed corporate sale opportunity.
Then god forbid it should be raining given neither regional stadium has decent stands.

Then they're untapped markets

or more likely they are too far away! How many fans will travel one hour plus each way on a Thursday/Friday night? Looking at broncos crowds, not many it would seem. Draw a 45min travel time radius around Suncorp and that’s where 90% of attending fans are. Will be same for any new club.

If you're correct then that's more than a million ppl missing out on live game. I think quite a number travel from outskirts tho but who knows?!

tbf this is exactly the sort of market research the nrl SHOULD be doing to help determine the next Brisbane club. No point picking Redcliffe if they’re model is based on a Moreton bay fan base and broncos attendance is confirming that fans won’t travel from that far to Suncorp

Lots

What's your point here? The train from the Moreton region to Suncorp is under 45min. I live there and regularly catch the train to the city

You cannot catch a bus from outside of Brisbane City Council to watch a game at Lang Park. All of the shuttle buses that travel into Lang Park only service the BCC area. The southernmost stop is Eight Mile Plains. Even if the Logan City Council allowed free travel on their buses to Eight Mile Plains for people who have a Broncos ticket, and I have no idea if they do, there are so few services run by the LCC at 11pm that people could get stranded. Tonight there are only 3 services from the 555 line after 10pm.

Update:

Free bus travel is not offered by Redlands City Council, Logan Council, Ipswich City Council or Moreton Bay Regional Council.

* Free travel on all Queensland Rail City Network Trains (excludes AirTrain) and Brisbane Transport Buses.

High enough to make the Roar take their games to Dolphin Stadium.
