When it comes to making your own luck I reckon Manly must have a backyard still. They walked off
and celebrated the win like they deserved it but it was shocking goalkicking that got them there.
Broncos looked a bit fragile without Wallace but that had little to do with their loss of discipline in defence.

Titans left a message last week they weren't done with yet but the Dogs must of missed it when reading
about how good they were. Cartwright deserves better than the last 18 months and should have been
allowed to continue the good work of the first few years

When Fox had ESL I used to watch it regularly and I remember the two standout Australians were
Ashley Klein and Jamie Lyon. Klein is still my favourite referee and Lyon is still the best specialist
centre in the game.

Lyon was the straw that broke the camel's back imo of Brian Smith. He slaughtered so many chances
at getting the best from so many players I actually pitied the teams he coached. That Lyon went back
to bush footy and then to England was testimony of his willpower. When he touched the ball in ESL the
Poms rose to their feet and like Les Boyd he became legendary in the mother country for the right
reasons.

Imo he is a better centre than Inglis because of his workrate. The NSW team need for him to give blood
so they all can be transfused with his will to win. His stubborness will just about rule out any chance of him
returning to Origin but Stuart should be in his face every day

One thing to introduce new players to a side so rot doesn't set in but it is unfortunately necessary to let
others go that are struggling to continue their career with the team in mind. The Eels are the worst
offenders at hanging on too long and not compensating with new faces.

Waiting for players like Prince and Campese to produce is detrimental and they must be regarded as
superfluous. The Titans should have been concentrating on a #7 replacement for 18 months especially
now with a potentially brilliant #6. They let Friend go when they imagined they could find better when
Prince is the one who should have taken Preston's lead.

Idris must look at Inglis and return to fitness if he takes playing with the Titans seriously. His workrate is
not equivalent to his rate of pay and Bird imo is still a jinx to any side he plays with. The Titans however
look exciting and the coach deserves to be rewarded

Just spent the day at a Rugby Union representative carnival for U13's at the new magnificent Glenn Willow complex at Mudgee.
Had no choice as one of my grandsons was playing for Central West. He and all his mates had changed from League to Union 18 months ago.

Now I know the basic idea in Union is to hold on to the ball until you cross the line. To do that it is imperative that the man with the
ball is not left stranded alone when he goes to ground. About as basic as planting Kikuyu and it will grow. Stands to reason then when
you think about spreading the ball you must ask yourself will the man that gets it have it stolen if he makes a break and gets tackled.

The answer of course is not to risk it and better to run back into the pack where the process of tackle, roll it back, run again, another
tackle, another roll it back and so on. There are 15 men on the field each side but only about 10 of them ever touch the ball worth talking about.

Then we have the ref as timekeeper. Amazing the number of times when a team is attacking the line and you know the time is up but
somehow it continues until a team scores, usually the one who needs the points.

Anyway, to sum up it up I spent the day watching a shit sport

all valid points Pops..... we did not play well last night and if Parker had his kicking boots on, stick a fork in us we were done.......but in saying that, for me one of the big positives to come out of the match was that every time we were behind we did not give up and fought back, even with 30 seconds left

the Manly of 6 or 7 years ago would have been beaten by 30+ in that match last night in front of a parochial Queensland Crowd

Thank You for this thread, it is great to be able to come in here and talk Footy without having to trawl through pages of BS

Knights were determined to earn their money tonight and looked like a real footy team. Always thought
Houston could have played Origin and he's still better that Watmough imo. They would have won
against a lesser team than NQ and it's good to see Novocastrians getting value for their entrance fee.

Can't remember whether Kane Linnett is yet another BS uncoachable or the Cowboys poached him but
he is a solid player. NQ always seem to me to be a team playing on a precipice of injuries but if they can
keep this team on the paddock the sky's the limit.

Speaking of BS I can't help thinking the Roosters are Taylor made but nevertheless Jack would say they
played strong and tonight's game was the best so far this round. Had a bit of everything and Pearce
removed any doubts I had of being the best available for NSW.

Again I reckon the Warriors will beat anyone on their day, it's just a pity they can't pick the right days.

As long as Jamie is in the team they never lie down . . . for that alone it's hard to knock this current Manly team even with Matai around

Fixed that for you.

I've got to go back again today because his team may make the final.

While you're fixing things maybe there's some way I can stop f**kwits from swooping down dropping
birdshit on me while I'm reminiscing. I can repay you by fixing some of your words of wisdom anytime
you write something worth the challenge

F**k, where'd he go . . . never had one that easy before

Hahahaha, sometimes the mods on here actually do their job so don't pat yourself on the back just yet.

Not a pat on the back . . . more a sigh of disappointment. Been a few pages since I've made a fool of a smartarse and I like to keep my hand in.

Sometimes I get all frustrated when there's no need. This morning I came away convinced that just as truck driving
is a vehicle for meatheads to make money rugby union is an outlet for meatheads who can't play League.
The sooner my grandson switches codes again the better.

Turn on Nine footy show for the first time in yonks and hear Kent saying that NSW needs Hayne because he always
steps up for Origin . . . where the f**k was I when Hayne last stepped up. If Hayne is not the worst defensive fullback
in the game I haven't seen them all play. Sure, play him on the wing, they don't need to defend.

Wtf, here I am a Qld supporter worried about what NSW do. Why should I offer up Glen Stewart as a possible opposite
that Cam Smith won't make his bitch and who cares if Stuart picks Jennings. Anyway, the game in Canberra was a real
schemozzle. Looked as though the Eels might come to the fore but in reality the Raiders just caught their disease.

Well well, who better to defeat the Storm than the Sharks . . . fabulous result. When Robson was with the Eels I doubted
his NRL value but seems I owe him an apology. Flanagan has done it again just as he did last year and maybe it could
be the start of a hoodoo for Melbourne.

Hate to see the Storm beaten by anyone other than Souths or Sharks, maybe even Price's mob wouldn't be too bad.
Good yardstick for these up and coming coaches to beat the frontrunner and the game can only benefit.

Jeremy Smith once again proves a journeyman player doesn't have to be average and as I said before it's a shame
this bloke can't play Origin . . . for Q

Hayne has never been discussed as a fullback option. It was always on the wing.

As much of a f*cking imbecile that Kent is, I agree with the fact Hayne is an Origin player (on the wing).

By the same token, Ben bloody Creagh is NOT an Origin player. How they keep picking that buffie I have no idea.......

I'm glad Creagh, Hayne, Farrar, Jennings and Bird are playing. NSW may well win but if they do it will be a miracle.
Jennings may get the ball in the open, he may not have to make a tackle and he may even last the whole game.
He comes with a 12 minute guarantee.

If you are going to play Hayne he needs to be inside a winger, not one. What is so fascinating about
Bird. It's said he can play 5/8 if necessary but he's a shithouse 5/8 and there are far better locks and
second rowers available. Creagh might finish on the end of a couple of good balls but again there are
better players available.

Farrar is a loose canon. Imo De Gois is in better form and he has more ticker than Farrar. Anyway, Stuart
is the first full time coach and he thinks he's doing best for NSW . . . I think he's doing what's best for Q

The positives for NSW imo are the Stewart brothers, Gallen, T-rex and Carney. The 5/8 has for the first time in his life
had a quality club coach and anyone who tells you a bloke can play Origin without being confident at club level is full of shit.

Williams is an unknown quantity to himself so any opposition can have no hope of planning against him except to keep him busy
in defence exactly the same as NSW will have to do with Taylor. They will cancel each other out if they both play well.

Brett Stewart will be where the ball is in goal line defence and his 45 degree runs at the line will keep Slater going back and forth
in anticipation all day. Glen is the 3rd best forward in the game behind Gallen and Thaiday imo. He has better ball skills than
given credit for and Cam Smith will be in his sights every time he makes a fool of Farrar.

Penrith played like a team about to get an elephant off it's back last night. Not because the prima donna was sent
to park footy but because they realise the coaches have had enough.

They played a half with the brains of a lock forward but maybe Burns is what they need. Some ticker where it counts
and rip, shit or bust. Maybe those empty seats might get bums on them and there was never a more important one point kicked for Cleary.

Just on Jennings . . . he doesn't have any idea what it takes to be a regular Origin player. He may fluke something but
he'll never make the grade. Stuart's hoping for a fluke though because he knows Qld will have to lose it themselves.

In the old days I'm sure the rule was if the arm carrying the ball was grounded over the line a try was awarded.
It was never considered necessary to change the ball into a position to make it touch the ground . . . I could be wrong.

The arm carrying the ball touching the ground is indicative of a tackle being made and the ball can't be passed
afterwards and the arm carrying the ball can't be advanced over the line after momentum has been stopped or
it is a double movement.

Why do we have endless replays that depend on how long the grass is cut when they could be circumvented by
the arm carrying the ball being a judgement across the board. Bit hard to make an arm disappear when it's
between the ball and ground

We'll see how much notice Meninga has taken when Taylor comes on the field for Q. Maguire has recognised that
Taylor's left leg is shorter than his right and he gravitates towards the left side of the field. In doing so he was
running Inglis off the park at Souths last year.

By starting Taylor on the right Maguire has allowed room for both the left centre and Inglis who prefers attacking
down the left side.

No wonder Newsouthwelshmen like me turn traitor. NSW League politics has seen team after team made up of
players in one year and out the next. The team is trapped inside a wall of hangers' on that refuse to bite the bullet
and train up and coming players that have the psyche to play Origin.

Farrar is a perfect example. The bloke is a liability in defence and all of a sudden he is compared to the most
valuable League player on the planet. Pretending Eeyore might make an impression on Black Caviar is a typical
NSW reaction to what should have been.

In the years since NSW has won a series they could have put into camp early each season a brew of young players
trained like Spartans to play Origin. Actually, similar to what Q have done over a much longer period. Who gives a f**k if
it took 6 years to ready a team culture that would threaten Q indefinately . . . what did they have to lose
