It's one thing to hand down a directive concerning infringements but another to expect the referees to
show common sense. Two blokes competing for the limelight, especially this time of the year, with
ammunition to fire that can't be claimed pedantic because god made them do it.

Maybe the referees should be given a trophy at year's end. Points 'against' would be for pedantic
rulings, mistakes and show ponying with points 'for' if the game flows with common sense stoppages
only, no dumb mistakes and most of all the ability to be unobtrusive.

All directives should be made before the season starts and judiciary punishments should have no criteria
open to enhancement depending on time of the year, who know's who or what team's involved

Think I might give a summation of my thoughts on this year's teams, just in case anyone's interested.
After this weekend League holds about as much interest for me as the old Amco Cup and god, so you
won't hear much from me until after the street sweepers.

Some might say I have a soft spot for the Raiders but that's not the case. They have possibly all the
ingredients for success which is what interests me no matter which team. Furner is still a work in progress
who, because of his standing in the footy community, has to prove a point to more than just his players . . . a tough gig.

There's no reason their forwards can't make up for indecisive halves just as the Dogs do and they have
game breaking backs. Hasler is doing what he's paid for, making the best of what's in front of him with
the help of some luck, something that is all the Raiders have to do. There's always the worry that any
knee jerk changes next year will interrupt what could be.

One key footy brain on the field that can stay on the field will be the only thing the Raiders require for
next year

Such a shame that the standard of refereeing has been so poor this season, a total lack of consistency in all areas of the game, especially in the area of rule interpretation.

I agree, all directives should be issued at the start of the season and left in place for the entire season, not this reactive garbage that we have at the present.

Titans, Knights, Panthers and Dragons are in a similar position to the Raiders with halves that are either
not good enough to make the difference or on their way out. Forwards of the four are adequate and even
the Dragons coach can't be considered for dismissal yet. These teams need to do some serious junior
excavation, there aren't enough halves growing on trees.

There are indiosyncrascies they need to overcome. Titans have to rid themselves of doubt over the team's
longevity in the NRL. Knights are paperback heroes and the Panthers are about to undergo a serious
reconditioning . . . not just a kerosene one but a replacement of parts.

The Dragons were historically the team that needn't worry about attracting quality players, the red V did
that for them. Sitting on their hands won't work anymore. A lot of their players are reaching a use-by
date without a lot of replenishment in sight.

I dis agree about the Knights (of course), despite the overly high expectations of our beloved media writers and other ne do wells, this year was always going to be about assessing and rebuilding, and that is what has occured, overall I can't complain about the Knights season...it's the next 2 seasons where a competent judgement can be made.

Be ironic to see The Ceccin Mob get the mardis gras 'grand' final gig. Imagine the record books being
affected by this type of officiating. The video ref calls an accidental offside after the gnomes missed it
but didn't worry about Merritt not knocking on. Not to mention advancing the ball for a try after
momentum had been stopped by Boyd. When are these f**kwits going to learn they're there to service
mistakes, not invent them.

If the referees are so keen to stop play for an infringement they obviously haven't seen clearly,
especially when there is no advantage to either side, why not take advice from the video ref to
substantiate a decision.

The lost ball ruling when the Panthers were attacking 3 minutes out that was a strip could have been
ruled as pick the ball up and play it. Since the referee made the wrong ruling meant he couldn't be
sure so why not give the benefit of the doubt to the attacking team and play on. A penalty for a strip
would have been wrong also if he wasn't sure.

Why a bloke can't say "I didn't see how the ball came loose so pick the thing up and get on with the
game" is beyond me. The onus is then put on the video ref to help instead of him being afraid to
interfere. Less scrums, less penalties and less hate.

As far as I'm concerned the best team of 2012 was decided tonight, albeit only with the help of Origin,
but nevertheless a worthy winner. The Dogs are the one team I hoped wouldn't finish on top, not
because I have any animosity towards them, because I detest the arsehole of Australia they represent.

CB will be better next year, and every year Hasler sticks around . . . pity. The once removed champion
cult will return and it will be back to business for a team that was renowned for it's hard men and
entertainment value. Salary cap shouldn't be an issue from now on, well and good as money is the
only attraction in SW Sydney.

Melbourne's big movers are showing signs of wear and tear but their policy of breed, not buy,
won't change I imagine. It will get harder each year the big three get older but with any sort
of luck they'll be alongside Manly again next year as the yardstick teams to beat.

The Storm imo need to up the ante in the quest for more than adequate forwards for next year.
Be great to see more Victorians in the side and Bellamy's the man to dig them out, which is why
he should be encouraged by the ARLC to stay where he is.

The Rabbitohs and Seagles finished the season on equal points so a comparison of their season is fair.
Both have an outstanding fullback, great backs, the necessary forwards and playmakers. Souths have
a definite budding supercoach and to dismiss Toovey as a possible would be premature.

What Manly has in abundance that Souths dream of is credibility. Some will say Toovey is surviving off
it and Maquire brought it through Customs but both these teams will be big in the fear stakes next year.

Knights have a supercoach and the Tigers a perennial underachieving coach who will always be a fanny
hair away from consistency. Neither teams are working with playmakers you could bet money on but
Newcastle will be a bigger threat next year imo.

I suppose onlookers could say that all either of these two need do is follow their coach's instructions
and we'll see who's fault it is they are where they are. Benny has more pressure on him than ever
before and Sheens needs to watch the games from the stands . . . one way or the other.

The Warriors should be given the Spoon imo. McClennan and Maguire both had success in SL but only
one has cut and pasted in the NRL. You would expect, Rabbitohs and Warriors having similar
ingredients Maguire would have the Kiwis firing . . . maybe not.

Playing like they are sulking over the loss of Cleary, who had to spend an inordinate amount of effort
to earn his money in NZ, this team should be ashamed of themselves. If Kearney goes from a team
with no talent to one with no ticker it will be a tough way to make a name for himself.

Broncos trying to keep up appearances and Sharks trying to make one, a fair judgement of their
seasons imo. Both, like Melbourne, could have done better without the Origin handbrake and neither
can use inadequate coaching as a scapegoat.

Flanagan and Griffin would have put their teams up near the Dogs with the same help from the footy
gods. While on the subject the Cowboys could make a threesome with the season they've had, only
difference is they're used to playing without help from above. Their first season holding The Shield
when it comes will be deserved more than most.

Last and least we have the Eels and Roosters . . . just about says it all in any summation of 2012.
One club gives a bloke the sack because he can't work miracles without talent and the other keeps
a bloke on who can't recognise talent and therefore needs a miracle.

How does a forum let a 67 page thread of some old f**k rambling to himself stay alive?

It's the newspaper format. Also - there is a game involved to see when he is serious and when he is trolling.
