It's one thing to hand down a directive concerning infringements but another to expect the referees to
show common sense. Two blokes competing for the limelight, especially this time of the year, with
ammunition to fire that can't be claimed pedantic because god made them do it.
Maybe the referees should be given a trophy at year's end. Points 'against' would be for pedantic
rulings, mistakes and show ponying with points 'for' if the game flows with common sense stoppages
only, no dumb mistakes and most of all the ability to be unobtrusive.
All directives should be made before the season starts and judiciary punishments should have no criteria
open to enhancement depending on time of the year, who know's who or what team's involved
Titans, Knights, Panthers and Dragons are in a similar position to the Raiders with halves that are either
not good enough to make the difference or on their way out. Forwards of the four are adequate and even
the Dragons coach can't be considered for dismissal yet. These teams need to do some serious junior
excavation, there aren't enough halves growing on trees.
There are indiosyncrascies they need to overcome. Titans have to rid themselves of doubt over the team's
longevity in the NRL. Knights are paperback heroes and the Panthers are about to undergo a serious
reconditioning . . . not just a kerosene one but a replacement of parts.
The Dragons were historically the team that needn't worry about attracting quality players, the red V did
that for them. Sitting on their hands won't work anymore. A lot of their players are reaching a use-by
date without a lot of replenishment in sight.
