Nah, it wasn't aimed at you mate or anyone in particular. I actually agree with you.

More just all the comments about him the last week or so. I should of mentioned it in another thread a while ago but just posted it here.

I think I know which thread you're referring too and we were probably going a bit hard on him. Just frustrating when you know they're capable of more than they're showing you know?

Rate him in the same vain as someone like a Glenn Hall, can be a good contributor off the bench in a good team but not someone who should be pencilled in for 80 mins every week

I was very impressed with Rochow at the start of his career and thought there was potential there to one day be a NSW player. Unfortunately he hasn't kicked on as I would have hoped. As was mentioned, maybe the Mckinnon injury as affected him more than most. I still reckon Rochow's career may kick on in the future and he'll surprise a lot of us. Time will tell I guess.

I was never as impressed as the majority of this forum with Rochow in the first place. I just don't think he has the tools to be more than a solid benchie, who in top form could do a job in the starting team with injuries.

You need guys like that at the club, assuming they are not being paid overs which I doubt he is.

I think this season has just been a bit of a dose of reality.

I don't think he's ever shown us anything to suggest he'll be a star. You see people in different circles (facebook, clown college, etc) wax about how he's absolutely a future NSW star... and it's just like... how? Why? Which aspect of his game is even above average?

That's very easy to say now that his form is down, but that comment would have been harder to make last year when he was playing pretty well. The reason I suggested him as a possible future NSW player is because I was impressed with the start of his career. Players that come into grade are usually prone to taking the wrong options in attack and possibly defense. He started well above the large majority of players. He demonstrated he had ball control, could run a good line, could pass or offload the ball (I hope houston takes notes) and was good in the wrestle amongst other things. Unforunately I had hoped he'd kick on more, but he hasn't yet.

I thought last year would be just a sign of things to come but the more I watch him the more I think that last year was the best he's got

Cant say I saw him offload all that much, if at all last year

He was a great defender and hard ball runner from the get go though. His try this week showed he also has good awareness and footwork to add to that.

Sadly this really only puts him in the catagory about a dozen other NRL second rowers fit into. With the modern game shifting to suit a lighter, faster forward pack I can see him becoming an effective impact prop of we can jag a more skillful backrower soon

Yeh not sure where the talk of an offload came from, he had 6 offloads in 27 games last year

Don't care if who we have to punt from our backline but Sione Mata'utia is a must for the future, only 17 and tore it up against Qld under 20's.

Yep, he looks like real quality, pure footballer.

Mamo could have a great career outside of him too.

We will lose him to a more proactive club. We will look at him and say that he is 17 and not ready for 3 or 4 years, wheras the Roosters or Bulldogs would pinch him and grade him at 18 even if only in baby steps initially. We spend too much on Aku's and not enough on juniors to stave off competition. Pathetic management. There is a reason Brian Smith held Aku back and now we see it. He has far more flaws than strengths to his game.

Yeah, definitely a big fan of Sione now. Have really liked what I've seen of him before that, but tonight really confirmed for me that he's going to be an NRL player. Agree with Jono, his football smarts impress me the most.

Who do we drop to play him though?

Harsh to say pathetic management for that, IMO. Uate was the man at the time and carrying us in stages ... Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Mamo's had a taste of FG and Stone thinks Sione will too this year, so he must be highly rated at the club. Not eligible for FG until he turns 18 in June or July, though.
