I was against Stuart to start off with but the more I think about it he really is the only option. He would attract players to the club and from everything I have read around in the media and heard through football circles all the players love and want to play for him.

At the moment Parramatta needs an experienced coach not take a punt on another rookie. I wouldn't complain either if Gould wanted the job.
This!!

When I got in the car to leave the game the first thing I heard on the radio was that Stuart had signed, my exact reaction was "f**k my life."

Ricky Stuart ... stepping back into the club coaching ranks.

NSW State of Origin coach Ricky Stuart will reportedly replace Stephen Kearney as Parramatta coach.

Although Eels mangement deny a deal has been done, Fox Sports' Warren Smith says Stuart will take over the Parramatta role from 2013. It also means he will relinquish the role as Blues Origin coach.

Stuart, who has a record of four wins and five losses at Origin level, gave no hint of his intentions on NRL on Fox last Wednesday night but did say that he couldn't coach at both club and representative level at the same time.

"The New South Wales Rugby League have got that policy at the moment that they have a neutral, full-time coach, and I think that’s fair, I really do.

"It’s a big job (to be NSW coach), and … I definitely won’t be looking for a club that would allow me to do it."

I hope it is true and getting Pay back as an assistant would be a bonus.

The Sunday papers will be annoyed if it is true.

Despite reports tonight suggesting Ricky Stuart has already signed on to coach Parramatta next year, club chief executive Bob Bentley has denied a deal with the NSW mentor or anyone else has been done.

Stuart's manager, John Fordham, met Eels officials on Friday and the directors held a board meeting earlier today to discuss the replacement for Stephen Kearney.

Fox Sports commentators claimed the NSW Origin coach had signed with Parramatta during the Eels' upset win over Melbourne, but Bentley said they had not reached an agreement.

Unless there is a hitch in negotiations, it is likely Stuart will put pen to paper in the next few days. The Eels are in the process of putting together an offer they hope will prevent him from joining Canberra or staying on as boss of the Blues.

"We're in discussions with Ricky and other candidates but we haven't put pen to paper at this point in time," Bentley said.

"Talks will continue over the next 24 to 48 hours. We might be in a position early next week to make some announcement in that regard."

After his meeting with Fordham, Bentley felt the club offered Stuart the challenge he craved.

"The sort of things they were looking for in a club, Parramatta has good appeal for them. A strong leagues club and financial backing, good playing roster and obviously the resources around the structure we've currently got. It ticks the boxes in that regard."
