A Rare Opportunity

February 17th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Reports this week from Steve Mascord have the English Coach, Steve McNamara, upset about having to stay home this year and not tour Australia and New Zealand because of the NRLs RLPA saying that players need to be rested so they don’t burn out for next year, (Steve’s story here). However, I myself feel that this can be a unique opportunity for International Rugby League. Why doesn’t England tour some of the other nations that are in the World Cup and also some of the developing nations?

Because McNamara is an idiot who doesn't see the bigger picture.

Well, him and the RFL and RLIF i guess. Its not just his call I suppose. :?
Yeah I guess, but it's McNamara who was complaining about not being able to play NZ and Australia and who continues to make every effort to compound the segregation that I talked about in a different thread.

Which thread is that?

Leeds do it Tough Against Manly

Friday saw the Leeds Rhinos take on the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in the latest chapter of the World Club Challenge. This was once again touted by many Aussie fans as an easy walk for the Australian Club that it will show how much the English are behind, certainly this was the trend in the last three years, but Leeds certainly showed that the top Super league clubs are at least the equal of the Aussies.

The Rugby League White Paper

February 19th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Rugby League lacks a coherent structure around the world and this is what is holding it back as a legitimately recognised sport internationally. There are four areas that need to be addressed and in this White Paper they are looked at and coherent sensible solutions proposed that over time can be built upon. First the governing body, The Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) needs to be streamlined, professionalised and independent of national administrative leaders and needs to have regional governing bodies come into the fold where nations have a greater say. Second a uniform set of laws for the game need to be brought in, not have the three or four that we have now. Third is that the eligibility rules need to be defined and enforced strictly. Fourth but probably the most important, is that there needs to be a coherent set of international tournaments that involved all nations to play the tournaments and promote and grow the game. As it is right now there is a gulf between the top three nations and then everyone else. Ensuring these four key areas in rugby league will not only ensure the sport internationally but also help the sport to combat domestic threats from other sports.

This is awesome. I don't 100% agree with everything, but this sort of thing is exactly what the sport has needed for some time. You seriously need to present this to someone in power.

Thanks,

I do intend to, I have have a couple people in the RLEF and RLIF say they are interested... its a start.

I would like to think that this is a good Road map, one that can be built upon.

Thanks Spud,

I know its a bit of a read, but I tried to approach this in as much of a scientific way as I can.

I would like to think that this is a road map that can allow the sport to go forward.

I think I have covered everything... however as I think up of more things I will add to it.

There is a permanent link to it on RLIS on the left had side of the website.

Tomahawks Win Back the Donnybrook Cup

March 19th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

March 17th, St. Patricks Day in Chester PA saw the next instalment of the Donnybrook Cup played out between the USA and Ireland. On and unseasonably hot day for march on the east coast, where temperatures got close to 20 degrees a great crowd of over 2000 turned out at Widener Universities Quick Stadium to see a full days play of Rugby League and Union. It was entertainment galore with the Warrior Watch present, Irish dancing and after the game the Blackthorns at the local casino. A hard brutal game ensued which saw both teams have to deal with physicality and heat.
