“You Got to be kidding Ref!”…

January 20th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

These words could not be used to great effect by the captains of NRL teams. In what could be a big step to killing off controversial tries in the National Rugby League in Australia it is being proposed that captains get the ability to challenge the call of a referee, like in tennis.

POSTED BY DRUZIK ON JAN 26TH, 2012 IN DOMESTIC, RUGBY LEAGUE | 2 COMMENTS
Sent by Mark Ramsdale Ltd on behalf of the Parliamentary Rugby League Group, mark@markramsdale.com

Lord Patten today (25 January 2012) announced that he has instructed the BBC to review its proposals for Local Radio services. He has also made clear to BBC staff that his decision was due to the undue effect on sport. Today’s announcement comes on the back of the Parliamentary Rugby League Group’s campaign to highlight both the impact of the proposals and the way in which the BBC and BBC Trust conducted its review.

EGYPT?!?!

Well there has been a recent coup...

Oh in Rugby League

.... :? ... this is the first I have heard of Egypt and Rugby League being thought of in the same sentence.

I can try and find out.

Hey dru, can you shed any light on what's happening in Egypt?

Cheers mate.

There's a thread at RL planet that mentions it.

Supposed to be from RLW in their Planet League section under "Children of the Revolution" or something.

There was an article in this month's RLW (UK) magazine on Egypt. Basically it's an English teacher at an English school in Egypt who has been educating them in RL. They get a couple of teams together and compete against each other as QL and NSW ironically. They even made their own versions of SoO jerseys.

Parra, I talked to Danny Kazandjian and seems you all are right, there is some activity there.

Basically, Ray Safi, MENA Regional Director, has had contact from a school in Egypt that is playing rugby league. The teacher running it is a St Helens man (No name provided). The hope is that, with stable comps like the MENA U16 and MENA U14 9s there are opportunities for new countries to build their programs around. The RLEF and MENA will see if the Egyptians want to send a team to Lebanon this year, which will enable them to strengthen ties and gather momentum.

Good stuff mate, lets hope they get some help from their neighbours and things take off just as it has in Lebanon.

Russia Seeks Sponsors and John Slade Joins the RRL Board

January 29th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Recently a lot of news has started to feed into twitter and Facebook from the Russian Rugby League. They are now seeking corporate sponsors and to help fund the new 9s team that they intend to send to several tournaments around Europe as well as the Canadian tour later this year. Also Estonian Rugby/Rugby Leagues head, John Slade has also been voted onto the Russian Rugby Leagues Board as their International Development Officer. This should help promote Russia’s and Estonia’s interests within Europe and the RLEF and RLIF. Recent news of the Newcastle Knight interest in setting up an academy in Fiji has spurred on the Russians to try and do something similar.

Russia – A New Era in the East for Rugby League: Part 1

January 31st, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Recently I have been in touch with the Russian Rugby League. They have been kind enough to give me some of the background on what’s been going on with Russia there and also what their hopes, goals and plans for the future are as well as offering to the world unique opportunities for investing in the RRL and Russia.

Good stuff Dru, I love reading about all this RRL stuff, I wish I could find the complete history of the sport over there.

29 open age teams is nothing to sneeze at if you ask me.
