Triple M's Matty Johns is impressed the Rugby League World Cup is smashing the TV ratings in England, even managing to beat the English Premier League (EPL) on the weekend.

On a weekend that saw the England rugby union team taking on Argentina, EPL on Sky and an ATP tennis tour featuring the top players in the world, England v Fiji at the RLWC2013 came out on top with 2.2 million people watching compared to 810,000 watching the soccer.

"We're building now towards this huge semi-final where it's shaping up that 99% chance England versus New Zealand at Wembley Stadium," Matty Johns said.

'I'm telling you know if England get through to the final...it would be a huge result for the game," Matty said on the Grill Team.

And his prediction for the upset of the tournament....England to beat New Zealand at Wembley.

Not that Ive been reading it lately, but I wouldnt be surprised if the DT has a 2 page spread of the Slater incident, and one little headline on the World Cup.

The Slater incident has certainly overshadowed the tournament itself recently, but when the next match comes along Im sure it will be forgotten.

Its good reading those TV figures in England, shows hows much interest it is over there.

Looks like we might have a record crowd at Wembley.

Yes if the home team makes a world cup it would be phenomenal for the game in England. But geez NZ V Australia will be equally as great a game to watch. The final will be sold out regardless!

Typical of the media to lump the Papalli situation in with Slater and label them both "booze fuelled".

Only a rugby league player could have the theft of his money at an ATM reported as an incident whilst out on the drink.

Next we'll have headlines like 'Kangaroos star involved in shooting during booze-fuelled night'. When in reality that the player was minding his own business before a bloke came up and shot him in the back of the head.

Virtually no coverage of the tournament on Sky news, until the Slater "incident" then it was on all the time about him, scumbags.

lol at the pumpkin head Aleague photos. Look at the demographic around him, such a family game!

f**k off troll.

What's your problem dribbler?

I come on here and congratulate the Tongan people for welcoming home their national team. I see you haven't congratulated them and you call yourself a league fan. Hahaha what a joke you are. Not sure who tells more lies, you or Julia Gillard?

The people of Tonga are very proud of their teams effort and they wanted to show it. I congratulate both their team and their people.

World cup should be scrapped because Australia players bore easily. You can do better than that News ltd.

PERHAPS it's the combination of a long season, the bitterly cold English weather or too many late nights sampling the UK nightlife.

But Billy Slater isn't the only Kangaroos player prepared to throw a punch during Australia's World Cup tour. Tension was at an all-time high last week between the two most unlikely players, Maroons teammates Nate Myles and Cameron Smith.
Myles went as far as to challenge Smith "outside" after taking offence to a few of the captain's one-liners. Maroons coach Mal Meninga could do worse than smooth the waters between the pair ahead of next year's Origin series.
Earlier incidents involving Josh Papalli, Slater and now Myles and Smith is enough evidence to suggest that the World Cup is merely a six-week tour with one serious game of footy at the end. The tournament is two weeks too long and is set-up for players to entertain themselves in between matches."

Just a low organisation with low journalists who have absolutely no idea about rugby league.
