I think there's a big union influence going on, especially with the game against Samoa on at the same time and more Munster merchandise than league merchandise at the stadium.

That's life in Ireland where League does not rate a mention anywhere. I often wonder if we should fight the battles we will never win and just concentrate on ones we have some chance.

Sometimes I wonder too. In reality Ireland, like Wales, like white South Africa, Scotland (though there success in RLWC is getting recognised), means union is played in these places which the population of PNG eclipse. RL has/is being accepted in the Pacific, and we should look at those areas that are more accepting like Canada, work on the US, France, Italy, Serbia etc which are more open and less likely to compare with union.

I note the Italian Rugby Union president met with the FIRL league president and is looking at collaboration (minus the Nazis :). That's quite a coup and there have been several reports in large Italian newspapers on their Azzurri success at RLWC. So again, a country which is more receptive. Just thoughts.

There's no need to 'win', just have our own part. There are people who follow and want to play league in Ireland, there are also people who may want to play and follow league if they knew what it was. If Union people don't think league is good then they shouldn't give a toss about what we do.

I get sick of this whole 'war' aspect codes have.

I would really like to see a country where Union and League worked together for once.

To an extent I also agree with this sentiment. I think nations like Canada, USA, Jamaica, Ghana, Italy, Serbia, Czech Republic, Ukraine etc are going to be more receptive because they don't have that indoctrinated hate of Rugby League because it is the bastard child of RU. This is why I think we should be targeting the black communities in South Africa, I think the game would thrive there.

Also unfortunately the biggest issue in most places is the differentiation between the 2 codes, most still don't know that the game exists. Even is Australia we have places where they know nothing about the game of Rugby League. I was in Tassy last year for the Brisbane/Storm pre-season game and took a few locals to the game who had never seen a game of RL and they had no idea about the game but loved it. The game needs a lot more media attention gloablly but this will take time and if we keep growing the World Cup into a very credible and successful event, the media will have no choice but to give it the attention it deserves.

Phil Rothfield today tweeted that anyone who watched the Australia vs Ireland game should get a life. Pretty much says it all in regards to the Telegraph's stand on the World Cup.

That is an absolute disgrace even by their standards. Would he say the same about the numerous floggings handed out in the union world cup every 4 years? How about 7-0 in the EPL, is that an equal waste of time?

Do the forum rules allow us to start a boycott? as in an organised one?

A boycott won't do much. Look at the number of posters in the NRL forum who obviously know better but still believe everything that gossip whore says.

Being in WA I regularly listen to Podcasts of the Triple M sports shows to keep up with the Rugby League news, I was quite looking forward to hearing 'The Rush Hour' today as I thought the World Cup talk would start to ramp up, all Rabs talked about was how its a waste of time having the other counties involved, its a boring process to get to the inevitable Aus v NZ final, the other teams dont want to be there and get flogged by 60 etc etc.

So far, 50 pts has been the highest winning margin. Regarding competitiveness, the average winning margin for the group phase of the comp has only been 19.7 pts, compared to 31.2 pts for the group phase of the 2000 RLWC (which was the last time the comp had more than 10 teams and had Quarter-Finals).

Also, the crowds have been much stronger as well. Average crowd attendance during group phase of this tournament has been 12973 (calculating the Millenium Stadium double header crowd as one crowd attendance rather than double counting the 45052), more than double the 2000 RLWC group phase average of only 6325

Looks like beetroot cheeks genius-at-large has written an article about soccer being bigger than NRL in Sydney.

Do you reckon the fossil even knows the World Cup is on?

PMSL at that photo:lol: Wait till one of the Wanderers or Sydney FC mob decks him one day, then we'll see if he keep creaming his pants over the A-League.

Australia V England was the highest rating show for sport on TV outside of car racing in the 5 capital cities over the weekend despite its 12.30am Sunday timeslot! It beat the A League soccer derby in Sydney at 7.30pm with 169,000 viewers compared to 101,000 viewers'

RL take a bow.

These are significant numbers given the time differences.

That is excellent, especially considering the England/Australia RU test two Saturday's ago got approximately 1/3rd of that 169k amount on Ch10 in a similar timeslot.

Will be interesting to see what the ratings for the finals will be!:D

I don't know much about FTA ratings on UK television. Is 2.2 million a good figure over there? (how does that compare to ratings in the past, or games like Challenge Cup finals on BBC)?

The official viewing figures from Saturday’s live coverage of Rugby League World Cup 2013 on the BBC show a peak audience of 2.2m watched England’s final group game against Fiji. The match, which England won 34-12, had a 15% share of the total viewing audience across all channels.

These latest figures compare very strongly with other sport available to audiences on Saturday and shows how Rugby League World Cup 2013 is capturing the interest of the British sporting public. For example the ATP Tennis World Tour Finals on BBC2 at the same time had a 1.2million peak audience, the rugby union England v Argentina international had a peak of 571,000, while the live Premier League football on SKY had a peak of 810,000.
The bolded bits are all you need to know.

Four times the union peak for a game against Fiji should be a huge wake up call to both advertisers and the RFL/RLEF/RLIF.

If England make the final look out.
