Dare I ask what sales are looking like for Oz v France in Canberra on Friday night?

(And note: France cop a 5-day turnaround v 7 days for the world champions, to make it even tougher for the Chanticleers !!! Another crap scheduling decision!!!))

Most of the RL fans I know down here (paid up members of multiple different clubs most of whom attend games regularly) didn't even realise that there were matches being held here, so you've got to think that if they didn't know then the average public are oblivious, and of the guys that did know most of them considered any internationals a side show not worth the price of the ticket.

I call BS. How can you be a RL fan and not know the RLWC is on and when and where the games are? Do these people in Canberra live in a hole with no internet, tv, radio or newspapers?

The game gets what it deserves. If fans cant be ar5ed to get out and support the game then don't complain when the rest of the world treats it with equal apathy.

The high priced tickets also stop those keen from buying a heap and then giving them to friends and family.

I wonder how much the Cowboys and Storm were tapped or engaged in selling the games in their towns. Im sure this could be analysed if a member from each club wants to check their emails and provide such info.

2013 RLWC the SL and other English clubs got to sell tickets and kept a % of the sales. I'm sure this helped with the good crowds we saw on the whole.

We should price the small matches like the they did for the women's international match in Newcastle. They just made it $20 across the board for adult tickets (from memory it was 20). They ended up pulling a fantastic crowd and the PR win was huge. They also sold a shitload of merchandise on the night.

They could have priced it higher in the hope of gauging fans like we are but they resisted that temptation and it paid off.

The minnow games crowds aren't where this tournament will make big money so why are the tickets not dirt cheap? Shit just give away a lot of tickets.

Most games prices are very reasonable, even cheap. Perth double header you are looking at (adult) $20 Sth stand, $30 North stand with flag, $60 East best stand

If you can go and watch a RLWC game for $20 then you have no price excuse for not going.

Matches should have been in the pacific islands. A proper pacific island rugby league world cup.

I personally love the world cup and the fans that spent their hard earnt buck to watch our great event. I think its a success everything about the crowds show us where we are at.

If anything we know with shitty promoting we still have fans turn out but with proper drumming of interest, a respect to the game as well can only ve good thing.

Not sure if you understand the harsh financial realities of the RLIF but this tournament is its main source of revenue for the next 4 years. Yes we could have played the game in paddocks and PI's and forgone on the likely $6-8million profit this tournament will make to grow the International footprint of the game for the next 4 years. But do you think that would be a good long term outcome?

Well.. my predictions for week 2 will have a nasty dose of reality to them after massively overestimating week 1.

Australia v France in Canberra : 11,000
New Zealand v Scotland in Christchurch: 13,000
Samoa v Tonga in Hamilton: 10,000
England v Lebanon in Sydney: 11,000
PNG v Ireland in Port Moresby: 13,000
Italy v USA + Fiji v Wales
Double Header in Townsvile: 10,000

isn't New Zealand v Scotland in Dunedin?

Before the tournament I would have said that Samoa v Tonga would be 15,000. Anything above 10,000 would be great.

Don't miss represent what I was said.

They knew that the RLWC was on but they didn't realise that matches were being held in Canberra (apart from the Aus v France game, most knew about that one), when those matches were being held, or which teams were in those matches.

Frankly, down here we've had no advertising for the games apart from a handful of articles in the Canberra times at the time that the fixtures were announced (and maybe the odd article between now and then), a big jersey shaped RLWC flag in the stands at the Raiders games at the end of the season, some pop up ads on the internet (god knows how targeted those ads were though) and the generic RLWC ads on Prime, unless I've missed something that's pretty much it and it's a piss poor effort, in the grand scheme of things that's bloody nothing.

Add to that that Nine and Fox almost completely refused to talk about the WC after they didn't get the rights and is it really that surprising that people had no clue that games were being held here, I don't think it is, I mean I only knew about it because I follow RL really closely and don't only watch it on the week ends and attend home games.

I'd suggest 15000 plus for England v Lebanon. Samoa v Tonga 15000 (not sure if ground holds this number ) Townsville double header 12000. PNG v Ireland 15000. Australia v France 13000 & NZ v Scotland 13000. Could be more for England game weather permitting. And obviously these estimates are relying on good weather.

England v Lebanon should be able to pull 20k if the Lebanese community in Sydney comes out in force.

The Poms in Coggee and Sydney should be able to muster up 10k and 10k from lakemba puchbowl bankstown areas plus neutrals.

I will go out on a limb an say 20k for England v Lebanon.
