Journalists are the peak of Rugby League knowledge. Phil Rothfield being a prime example...

Kurt is a much better fullback than he is a halfback, and he's a much better fullback than Shannon McDonnell. If one was to choose our best 17 and Kurt was first cab off the rank, I'm sure he'd be penciled in beside number one and not number seven. I our improvement in the back half of the season had a lot more to do with the quality of our opposition (when we came up against in-form sides we did not compete, eg. Raiders, Storm, Dragons), Mullo being back at 6 and the resurgence of players like Isaac De Gois, Cooper Vuna and Adam MacDougall.

Really, victories over a Lockyer-less Brisbane, Cronulla and the Bulldogs are nothing to beat our chests about the effectiveness of our team with Gidley at halfback.

1. Kurt Gidley (c)
6. Jarrod Mullen
7. Beau Henry
9. Isaac De Gois

What makes Kurt Gidley playing halfback the be all and end all of our season? Please share what ever it is that makes you so strong in your conviction, because it seems nobody understands except you.

Everybody has to start somewhere. At a point in time Andrew Johns was also an unknown quantity. Kurt Gidley isn't our only other option at halfback anyway.

Everyone does have to start somewhere. I just don't think main playmaker, number one choice halfback, great white hope and new messiah is a good place for a guy to be for a first game rookie.

Jarrod Mullen will be our main playmaker, I'm certain of that.

Kurt Gidley is not our long-term halfback, he is our fullback and nothing more than a bandaid solution for our halves. He was a last throw of the dice in 2010 and will continue to be our last gamble in the 6 and 7 in the years to come. We are a better team with Kurt at the back.

Beau Henry on the other hand has been brought here to be our halfback, hopefully for a long and prosperous tenure in the blue and red. Andrew Johns was a player all have struggled to follow, both at club and State of Origin level. The pressure is going to be sustained no matter when his debut is made, whether it is in Round 1 2010 or in Round 26 2013.

We need to show some faith in Beau, not write him off before he's even pulled on a jersey.

The game against Brisbane is the reason why I decided Shannon should be far far away from the team, he's atrocious positional play in that game left him clutching at air on numerous occasions. Embarassing.

Amazing..

The combination I advocate gave us the best few weeks of the year and it's getting a beating because of a few twisted McDonnell haters..

As such, we have the quite strange situation where a forum of alleged Knights fans would prefer not to have the best team on the park because...god knows why....??

Maybe they just can't stand being wrong..As I said the results speak for themselves..Build a bridge and get over it..

Unbelievable..Knights fans preferring a losing team over a winning one..Who'd have thought it..

Does it really upset you so much that basically nobody agrees with you that your spine is the best option for the team?

And just for emphasis

If Gidley starts at halfback and we lose majority of our first games, then what? The amount of pressure that would put on Henry would be enormous and unfair. We bought him to the club to play first grade and the best time to play him is when he's full of confidence and there's no pressure on him to pull the team out of trouble.

I just don't want a replay of last season with several changes made to the halves and that's what will happen if Gidley starts at halfback because he will have to go back to fullback at some stage. I want Stone to give the Mullen/Henry combo every chance before dropping the hammer.

2011 should be a fresh start for our halves, let them build a partnership not only for the year but for the future and minor adjustments can be made along the way. A premiership next year is more than unlikely so now is the time to get the spine spot on and then we can build around it for 2012. Having a safe and consistent 1,6,7 & 9 is far more attractive to unsigned players than continuous screw arounds, that's for sure. I just can't understand why a couple of people are so wrapped up in a few games that happened months ago when what was best for the team back then is obviously not what's best for the future.

It's a big move I admit, but it bore results..

Same thing was said about Locky when he was Fullback, then he became one of the best 5/8s in the business..

Sorry to sound rude but you've gotta be freakin kidding! Two totally opposite situations and players but now I understand how you've developed the idea of keeping Gids in the halves.

Gidley was a decent 5/8 who became an awesome fullback. There were tonnes of people bleating in the Courier Mail about Lockyer being moved back to fullback even years after the move ...

Yes we do.

Unbelievable..Knights fans preferring a losing team over a winning one..Who'd have thought it..

No we dont.

A little known fact - Henry has never played firstgrade.

Well known actually.

A little known fact - McDonnell is terrible.

I'd rather Wes at the back.

Well known also.

Everyone does have to start somewhere. I just don't think main playmaker, number one choice halfback, great white hope and new messiah is a good place for a guy to be for a first game rookie.

Number one choice halfback doesn't make him our automatic number one play maker. Mullen--->Kidley--->Henry. When they are all on the park.

Jarrod Mullen will be our main playmaker, I'm certain of that.

100% agreed.

Well, if there's one thing I agree on..

The majority of you will probably get your wish and we'll have the following spine..

1. Kidley
6. Mullen
7. Henry (Bye bye Top 8)
9. De Gois

I would just prefer to be in the top 4, which is what would happen with my option..We're all Knights fans, I just would prefer to be there in September and hopefully October..

Woo hoo...!!

Tell you what..

If he's the number 7 all year and we make the final 4 (not 8) I'll totally eat my words ny problem whatsoever...

Coastbloke could you at least give us a better reason as to why you're so determined for Gidley to play halfback other than how we won a few games with him there last year because believe it or not we also won a few games with Dureau at halfback too.

The form we showed at back end of the season should not be narrowed down to where Gidley played, sure he was good but it was our forwards that really stepped up and made the way for him & Mullen. I find it pretty ridiculous that you think we won those games on what number was on Gidleys back alone. If our big men can muscle up for Henry the same way they did for Gidley in those few weeks, I have no doubt that he'll be able to do us all proud.

The simple fact is Gids has to play fullback where he can make his try saving tackles and either set up plenty or lay on the points himself. Arguing this fact is doing you no favours whatsoever lol
