Horrible game but Roosters were pretty ordinary at the start of last year and still managed to win.

Thought RCG was good and Matto looked better in the second half. Outstanding defence overall but we need to complete better than that moving forward.

Mahoney, Paulo, RCG, Fergo and Gutho were very strong.

Moses, Sivo, Matto and Jennings were decent.

Evans and Drown weren’t great and the rest get a pass.

That’s my understanding too. The bulldogs said they were challenging the knock on by hoppa so that’s the only thing they are meant to check. I could be wrong though.

Yep, but he did make a couple of huge plays to help us get the game. I just think less is more with him, same with Guth.

To be fair, he’s an undersized middle forward so it’s his job to keep that middle tight, especially in a scramble. He did that very well tonight in the second half, but for a $500-$600k middle, I just don’t think he provides us value.

Disagree about Gutho. He was excellent tonight, regardless of his extensive (possibly excessive) involvement.

Paulo was our best .... matto did nothing special - he was solid but provided nothing ... i expect more

Dylan Brown criticism is a bit weird. Never got the footy over Moses until the back end, when he looked pretty good. And he made 22 tackles without a miss.

Wasn't very involved (and through no fault of his own IMO) but hardly poor

Agreed. Matto was excellent in the second half when there was a bit more space. He’ll be a quality addition to this squad. Paulo was immense and I thought he was putting in more effort in defence than he has in the past. He gets my 3 points.
