Rookie of the Year 2012

Reynolds is a shoe in for this year. Just hope he doesn't become another Jason Martin, Matthew Rodwell, or Brett Firman.

The Dragons have 4 elligbile players, I believe: Cameron King, Jack De Bellin, Nathan Green, and Jack Stockwell. King has the most potential, and most Saints fans are a bit miffed why he hasn't been given more of a go this year. Jake Marketo has played one too many games in previous years to qualify.

By the way, at what point will people realise that positional awards and the rookie of the year are not based on Dally M points?

Joe Williams.

Hurrell for mine is someone who nearly every club would want in their side. De Belin is also a great kid.

Sironen is going to be something pretty damn special too.

But the difference between those guys who had a good rookie year and then went south, Reynolds is incredibly mature and composed and unlike a lot of those guys he has a very good coach.

He'll have a long succesful career.

Hurrell pushing his claim further after his hatrick tonight. Looks like he might be the best centre the warriors have produced. Third highest try scorer overall this year despite missing a bunch of games at the start of the season. Dead set 2 horse race between him and Adam Reynolds. He's been awesome for Souths.

The problem with some people is that they are ready to crown a player with greatness before he has played a full season. Does the name Glen Mortimer ring a bell with anyone?

We have some really good rookies this year. Adam Reynolds and Konrad Hurrell are the two who most show out. One of these two should win the award. But there is no guarantee that either or both players will develop in to anything other then a player who showed something as a rooke.

The talk in this past week about Reynolds being a chance for NSW half next year was way over the top. If he was picked for the first state of origin game next year he would have played no more then 40 first grade games. It's not going to happen.

Let's sit back enjoy some really good rookies coming through and wait til they have played three or four years before we place the crown of greatness on them.

How many games in a previous season can player play before he is not considered to be a rookie in the present season?

I have a feeling it's six games, but not sure on that.

Jack De Belin played three games for the Dragons last year.

I am not a fan of having players who even played one game in a previous year considered a rookie in the current season.

The Hurrell-cane. Special player. Most exciting outside back prospect I've seen come through the Warriors... watching Vatuvei run over blokes was exciting, but this guy has far more to his game. The second try he scored last night was just sheer power, absolute class. Damn glad he's at my club.

Edrick Lee making a late run? 6 tries in 6 games so far.

No. A lot of those tries have been gifted to him on a platter.

I'd have the bloke from Penrith, Mansour, above Lee.

Its between Hurrell and Reynolds, Reynolds has the advantage of being in the better side and being a halfback. Also has played just about every minute this year. I think he gets it as long as he stays healthy.

I think the 'halfback' part for Reynolds will be the clincher. I would take Hurrell though over any other rookie in the comp at my club. Not many blokes in their second year of rugby league are scoring as many tries as they're playing games. He's an absolute brute.
