Didn't we have 6 Polynesians in the game the other night? I'm still confused as to how having 1 less Polynesian [to get to Rammys magical number of 5] would have made Sandow and Morgan a more effective tackling combination?

Anyone?

Ram is pissed cos he had to wait too long for a beer when he was in Samoa.

If the coaching staff believe the attributes of consistency and mental toughness are found more in players with a particular ethnicity and therefore they are inadvertently favouring players of said ethnicity over players of another ethnicity does that make them (the coaching staff) rasicts or are they simply looking for the needed attributes and chasing their view of the best players available with these attributes?

And is this any different to recruiting for speed, ball handling, tackling or any other attribute of a rugby league player they believe we lack in our squad?

If they are looking for mental toughness and consistency it doesn't matter what ethnicity they are. If they're looking for players purely for the fact that they have a certain ethnic background then yes it is racialist.

But seriously, I am not advocating not signing Islanders.

I just don't think there are enough at this point in time, that have that hard edged attitude that a team needs, to do really well and play consistently in well in the NRL.

That is why you cannot have a team that is majority Polynesian, unless you are blessed to have the majority of the mentally tough ones in the NRL.

Skill, strength and speed as we all know is only part of the story. We always talk about mental toughness.

Brian Smith, with his love of the big powerful and fast Poly player, started this trend in the Parra club. He liked yes men that would just follow his instructions(and I put Hindmarsh in this group too) and weeded out all our leaders and mentally strong guys, and we haven't come back since.

People may not like this, but it is what it is. Mental toughness is a trait just like speed or strength, why do we select on those basis???
To show how stupidthese type of posts/thoughts are, how about we use the time honoured trick of substituting "blue eyed men" for "Islanders", "Polynesians" or "Polys" and see whether the logic is silly or not?

FMD, it doesn't matter is a player is Polynesian, Melanesian, Indigenous, Mediterranean, Caucasian, Other or Blue-Eyed... a shit player is a shit player! A bunch of shit players with no leadership qaulities is a abunch of shit players with no leadership qualities! A player is mentally soft because he as an individual is mentally soft and has not developed as expected, not because of where his family were born.

Bottom line we need to sign or develop good/better players, whatever their cultural backgrounds. You never have to balance anything to do with ethnicities in the squad... because ethnicities and race don't come into it!

Well I have just finished watching a replay of the match. A few noticeable things.

It's clear that the Cowboys decided to target our right side exclusively from the start of the second half.

From the start of the second half it's clear Sandow decided to play his own game and he was the only player who did this. Everyone else noticeably stayed on plan.

The penalty for inside the 10 the set after the Cowboys first try in the second half was rubbish, No one was inside the 10. Cowboys went back to back tries on the penalty.

When we got the ball back after Coopers first try, Sandow went for the 40/20 on the third tackle. He ran down and missed the tackle on the left side of the field. He never returned to his defensive position on the right side. Hence why no one was there for Coopers second try from a kick.

Watmough should have made the tackle outwide on Wright when Semi dropped the ball from the tap. This try was the beginning of the end. It was a lazy attempt from Watmough. He also missed key tackles during the onslaught.

The Mau leg raise is no worse than the Tamou leg raise that knocked Mannah out.

I remember years ago the warriors coaching staff came out and said they could no longer have a team made up predominantly of Polynesian players because for the most part they lacked the mental toughness in tight games. They said they needed to recruit differently to give the team more consistency. it was then that they became a premiership contender.. They've had a policy it seems of recruiting Caucasian Aussies or poms ever since. That's a decision that club made. Different races can have different cultures, therefore different attitudes. We've seen that before with some coaches and even Polynesian players saying they need to be treated differently. Oh and I have Polynesian mates. Not racist.

Now that a few days have passed, I feel a bit better about this game. We were absolutely smashing them for the first 50 mins or so. One of the best periods of footy the team has played in years. Then came that 12 minutes where absolutely everything the Cowboys touched turned to gold. That won't happen every time though. Still, will be hard to be enthusiastic about the team's chances for a while.

I've gone over the game 5 times since Monday night and looked closely at what happened in the last 30 minutes of the second half and its clear we are short on two tacklenesians. We had two too many softnesians in our squad particularly on the right side. BA needs to get the mix right.

3 fastnesians
4 toughnesians
4 smartnesians
6 tacklenesians

I'm racist....... f**k off all softnesians.

I reckon we could get by with one less smartnesian, and replace him with an extra toughnesian... if only the salary cap auditor would let us!

All I've heard from critics since Monday is that we lost an "unloseable" match...

But how can any side with in-form players like Coote, Linnet, JT, Morgan, Tamou, Scott, Taumalolo and Cooper ever be discounted?

We shouldn't have lost, but the Cowboys are a classy team.

We were good enough to get into a position where we should not only have won it, but gone on to make it one of the best wins of recent times. We were at home and leading by plenty with the clock ticking in our favour. But somehow, we found a way to drop our lollies and the rest is history. Parra history.

Please do not tell me you are trying to defend Monday's loss?
