Round 13 Parra v Cowboys - Game Day

I think that was uncalled for Baz.

Have you read the last 2-3 pages?

Judging players on their race, rather than their revealed ability and character is what I'd call racism.

We need good, well-motivated players, and I don't care if they come from Mars. If it turns out that buying good well-motivated players changes the ethnic balance of our team, so be it, but the point shouldn't be to hire players on a racial profiling basis.

Perhaps, but I don't think me making a comment on statistics being stupid if they don't count the run metres if a player then makes an error, needed to be bought up as part of that theme of conversation

Sorry mate. Didn't mean to imply anything of the sort. I was facetiously referring to the fact that every 2nd post in the thread seemed to blame our problems on the race of our players (ok, I'm exagerating), and that yours was one of the few that didn't.

I *think* they do count the net metres gained if you run then drop the ball (but I'm not sure). But if you run, say, from 15 metres out into the in goal, drop the ball and the opposition get the ball at their 20 you don't get any metres. Similarly, if you drop it and the opposition pick it up and run it back further than you ran, there's no gain. There's no golden rule..it's up to the stats provider. But if they are trying to create a system where the total metres that the team advance = total metres gained by its players, then a run ending in a knock on should count for the players metres unless it results in a subsequent loss of territory.

In what respect?

That someone suggests that you shouldn't make hiring decisions players based on players race, and that you just consider their footballing skills and revealed attitude?

Obviously I've become some sort of tree hugging hippy.

It has to be balanced, good teams have a good mixture of both in key positions also.

LOL, and you wanted to be in charge of the club. Luckily no one voted for you otherwise we would have had a ban on signing too many players because they are of a certain ethnic background. You are a dead set joke.

You have no idea what we are even talking about you dope.

All sides have a good balance in their squad, we simply dont. Get it?

Wasn't saying it's a good or a bad thing, I was pointing out that all clubs have the right balance overall in their squad/club.

This was always going. Be a season with massive issues, when ta very selfish footballer who is by far abs away your best player, walks out without notice and no chance to recruit

Full back is such a crucial position and we see the results of the season from someone "chasing a dream at 26 years of age with no concern for his team mates", no excuse for the lack of leadership on field for 15 minutes ., but anyone who didn't see the damage that was left behind by JH is kidding themselves

This^

Hayne's decision to go and chase an NFL deal has zero relevance to what happened at Parra Stadium last night IMO. If you've got a vendetta against Hayne fair enough, go and post all you like about it in a Hayne Haters Homepage thread all you like, but I don't see any point mentioning it this match thread.
The team were good enough to make the comp frontrunners look out of their depth for 50 minutes last night, all without JH who is long gone. They've clearly moved on, everyone else should too.

Hayne leaving has a massive relevance on our performances until we replace him.

Like I have said many times before, too many Polynesians in the team. Semi for example is not a Polynesian. At least with Foran and Scott both coming, even though we have paid way to much, that is slowly being addressed by the coach. Once we get down to no more the 5 in the team, we may start to see sustained positive results.

Spot on.

So Melanesians are fine? Yeah I've never seen a laid back Fijian.

Meanwhile those useless Polynesians are the current world champions.

With a Polynesian coach.

Agreed. Our balance is out and has been for a while. I like the Broncos, Rabbits and Dragons balance for example.

I agree that our balance is out. I think we need 30% Polynesians, 30% Melanesians, 30% Caucasians and 10% Micronesians if we want to start winning games again. Let's not forget that we lost a good Melanesian Polynesian when he went to chase his dream in the NFL and we're yet to replace him. That f**ked our balance up right there,

Just wanted to say Parra supporters I feel sorry for you guys after that last night.

You guys must be wondering where the passion, pride and heart is!

Souths supporters went through it for years so we know what it's like.

Just try to be patient and you guys will come out the other side of all these tough times.

Your membership figures are very good which is great to see.

For what it's worth, I said I understood what Ram was saying about the Polynesian players, but I didn't say I necessarily agreed.

We do need some tough, no-nonsense "bullies" in our pack, but that role can and has been filled by blokes such ad Ruben Wiki, Josh Papalii, Jeremy Smith, Ben Matulino, etc.

I think Beau Scott will be brilliant for us, regardless of his age. He's exactly what we need.

Honestly? I'm not. At all.

We should never have lost that game, but it wasn't a lack of effort, heart, passion or pride that cost us. It was simply that the Cowboys are a great side, and we're prone to panic when things go against us and we drop our bundle.

I honestly don't get why people are bagging the players' effort - 100%, they should have won. I'm not disputing that - but they're just not good enough to compete with the elite teams. Simple as that.
