Mary has made the stupid statement - Dugan to be fullback while ever he is coach. This will block the testing of Dufty/Field/Mann at fullback. And even when Dugan is not available, Mary selects Nightingale at fullback.

However, Millward wants Field at fullback for 2018, what if he is not up to it? Do we just lose games in 2018 while testing prospective fullbacks. Maybe even losing Mann because we did not test and find him suitable for selection at fullback. It's a mess.

Do we just lose games in 2017 when we are sitting top 8 to trial a prospective FB for 2018?

Both sides of the argument are fair but that is the reality.. what gives? 2017 or 2018?

Milne is a centre not a winger.
He should have been given a go at centre when Aitken was playing poorly and that would constitute Mary giving Milne a go.
When Nighty went to FB a winger should have been promoted to replace him and that would be giving them a go.
The whole notion of Milne is about playing centre not playing wing and Mary's selection of him on the wing was not in essence giving him a go, it was clueless and showed exactly were he lacks skill as a coach and why many in this place still question his ability.
The argument that selecting a player to start in first grade is not "in essence" giving them a go is a bit of a strange one. The point was that choices are made regarding who to give a go to. Milne WAS given a go. If someone else was, then they are and he isn't. It's the flip side of your argument elsewhere that bringing in a first grader from elsewhere means dropping one of ours.
Let's say he selected someone else (FFL?)on the wing. Aitken goes down, probably Mann goes to centre and field to 5/8. Next week aitken still injured, FFL comes into wing and Milne goes to centre. Exactly where we ended up.
Last year Mary was clueless. This year it's hard to deny he's found a few clues at least.

Have a bit of a feeling that this will be an ' on ' weekend for the Tigers , more so now that Leloula (?) is on the scene . They seem to have one off and then one with all guns blazing , just hope that the Dragons do not take them too lightly .

Now that the big name poacher Cleary , has finally finished his shopping , he also will have a point to prove as far as his coaching skills are concerned . Still , we have our team playing with so much enthusiasm at the moment , that it would take a very special effort by the Tigers to win . Dragons by 8 :innocent:

The way Dugan is slamming the club I really don't think his head is in the right place. I would rest him even if he is fit.

Just heard Will Chambers re-signed with Storm for 2.1mil over 3 years. 700k a season. Less than what Duges was offered. Less injury prone, 15 origins to date, GF winner, etc yet Duges thinks he is worth more than him.

If I had a choice of centre out of the 2 I would take Chambers. Just saying.

Saints should have offered Duges a 4 Year deal 900k 1st year then decrease 800k 2nd year and 700k for the 3rd and 4 years when he probably will be centre.

This Year?

Why are we playing our home game at ANZ ? Makes no sense at all. Regardless of the bullshit reason we'd get a bigger crowd at Kogarah or Wollongong imo so it's just stupid giving away a home game advantage and a home game experience for fans. This bullshit needs to stop.

I'm surprised it wasn't scheduled until heritage round and put it at the SCG. Kogarah would have been awesome. The Tigers have a poor record there.

OTimer...mary called the right shot.

Many fans said put mann in the centre when aitken got injured.

Other fans say someone else, and others say another player.

Thankfully we have a coach calling the shots.

He is 3rd. Yeaahhhhhh!
We have a dumb and stubborn coach who never learns from his errors. I've not seen one call from Mary that I could say was a good call. He even had to get the leadership group to design a playing style and 'power plan'. God give me strength!

Nothing will 'give' if Mann/Field/Dufty are up to the task. What we would have is Dugan at right centre plugging up the defensive holes and smashing the oppositions right edge.

Time to let go.
I am sure people will discuss who was more correct come late Sept. Mary or his critics.

My money is on mary.
Roll on September!

I'd like to see this team -

1. Field/Dufty
2. Macdonald
3. Dugan
4. Lafai
5. Nightingale
6. Mann
7. Widdop
8. Packer
9. McInnes
10. Vaughan
11. Frizell
12. Thompson
13. De Belin

14. Sims
15. Ah Mau
17. Sele
19. Leilua/Field/McCrone
I could handle this team being picked, but we all know McGregor just isn't that creative.

My sentiment is always about the right man for the job.
I never consider that a 1st grade winger should be replaced by a guy playing reserve grade centre.
Replace the winger with a winger it's that simple for me.
Therefore replace the centre with a centre
My contention is that if you play a centre as the winger and he goes badly and he gets dropped back to reggies it is entirely possible his progress has been hampered by playing out of position ala what happened to Mann last year.
We brought a centre, played him as FB, dropped him to play wing, brought back as a wing, then played him at 5/8. His progress is then determined as "utility" and is therefore master of no position and liable to be let go if you hold strength in specific positions. In amongst all of that the guy we brought as a centre from a high profile club never plays centre for us who were well below the standard of the club he came from.
IMO Milne does not have the requisite skills to play wing and we do him a great disservice by selecting him there.
He is having enough trouble making the transition from reggies centre to 1st grade centre why complicate it even further asking him to perform at 1st grade standard in a position he never plays?
The skill level for a winger is entirely different to that from a centre and in fact looking at the skill set of the wingers in 1st grade it is truly a specialist position in its own right
At the same time we have young wingers coming through plus the depth player KFFL who we choose to ignore for selection in their preferred position.

The most concerning thing I can see in any of the sections is big Jake getting into the 2nd grade hooking spot.
That is a worry IMO.
