Round 15 vs Dragons - Game Day Thread

I noticed Alvaro in the second half looked very strong in some tackles. A couple of tackles doesn't mean much but I'd be curious to see his stats today.

I think Alvaro suffers a bit from the fact that he has a baby face (a bit like the fat kid from Hey Dad or that toilet paper ad). No matter how well he plays, he'll never look like a hard arse. I dunno if he'll ever be more than a decent fringe front rower, but he has continued to improve since he hit first grade, and his effort can never be questioned.

I thought Vave was far worse. Matagi wasnt great either. Matagi was much better as a starter. Hes also better at taking the first hit up from a kick off. Not sure of Alvaros numbers but gee he gets left on the ground a lot. Front row is definitely our biggest weakness whereas Brown, a much smaller guy is a real weapon. Hopefully Scotts injury isnt serious as he is vital to our pack as well. Tep was also missed.
I'd say Brown,Mau and Kenny covered for the poor work of our props. Alvaro was solid again but Mannah.Matagi and Vave offered SFA today. Evans can't get here quick enough and fingers crossed he's not the only prop that BA signs for next year.

I don't think BA will elevate Smith into starting 9.

So will it be King or Robson who takes the role? Someone on FB also mentioned they spoke to IDG at the ground today and he said he was 2 weeks from returning (though I'm sure I read something similar a month ago)

I don't think we lost much at all from dummy half when Kaysa went off.

If anything we gained a kicking game. Smith only had one kick but it was a decent one.

Sad fact is Kaysa just isn't what we need at hooker. If a five-eighth-cum-fullback can do as well and add an extra dimension then what does Kaysa really offer?

Hope the kid is ok, but we really should do our utmost to nab Peats.

He's a good first grade front rower and will continue be pretty much that for his career.

If you can have a bloke like Alvaro on relatively little money churning out 100m most weeks then you're going well, because you can put big money forwards around him.

Let's hope BA visits the refs boss in coming days. I've never seen a performance like that ever. There were many occasions the ref could of awarded a penalty but declined not to. St George continually slowed us down and it hurt us. The one penalty that was finally given in the 71st minute drew a bigger cheer than the full time siren. SMDH

Today just illustrated how good of a team we could be with another prop on top Evans and a good hooker.

I even reckon if we had another Brown or a mongrel type back rower who gives you 100% every week we could be an awesome side next year. I really hope we get Peats, along with Evans and another prop or even a back rower we could have a very good team next year.

Have a huge question mark about Alavaro. I feel that the only time he does well is off the back off other forwards (when the other forwards have set a platform) but as an initial front row hit up guy he just gets dominated. If he and Mannah are our starting front rowers then we have issues. Today, I Thought he was found out a little.

Matagi started off on fire at the start of the season, what's happened ? He's gone backwards.

I don't see front rowers in the lower grades that can really push these guys. We need to sign another prop or two IMO.

Anyone have any news on Meehan? He's the type of merkin that we need.

It was freaky disgusting, the saints slowed down the play the ball and were jumping the gun in defence and rushing up in every bloody tackle. Just terrible

Robson looks like hes played a year too long. Please dont let it be him. Will smith has been fantastic as a sub. Hopefully its him and King.

I remember that kid (Matt Croc I think) and I reckon you're spot on there. He didn't seem to have raps coming through and that can also colour people's opinions, but he's been a steady improver.

100%.

Cannot have both Alvaro and Mannah in our team if we wanna be serious.

It's one or the other, but having both of them is not gonna get us where we need to get to.

Alvaro has decent leg drive which Mannah no longer has, but in that second stint he was rather ineffective for me.

Hence why Evans and one more is needed next year, Evans is already a big body but I think we need another decent prop, we currently 2 short for me.

Matagi has been bang average also, we need someone to push these guys.

Alvaro made 70m in his first stint and by the time he went off had almost 30m more than his nearest rival (Brown). He's fine and tbh I think should be starting over Mannah, not with him.

We went really well the game he and Vave started.
