Couple of weeks ago someone on this forum pasted an article written by Smug Kent praising the Panthers for not releasing Burton , and now he is throwing rocks at Panthers for "double standards."
No surprise there.

They have other options.

Transfer fee, a substantial one.

Or they could lobby other clubs for a good old fashioned three-way. Taumololo to Penrith, Burton to Dogs and Napa to Cowboys.

How does either of that help us during Origin period when Nathan needs a rest though?

That is the issue we need coverage for that time

I watched to NRL360 last night, Kent wasn't agreeing with that statement, just asked Brandy, that question, as "some pundits" seem to have this view that the panthers are being hypocrites regarding contracts, but realistically we are just picking and choosing our strongest 30 man squad, and i'd say Burton strengthens that squad, even if he doesn't see a minute of 1st grade this year.. bulldogs and the fans that think we are hoarding players can go fûčk themselves, we produce them, we train them, and we want to use them however we want, for as long as they are contracted, on Penrith's terms!..
Seems unfair? Go and grow you're own academy Bankstown! Till then shut the f**k up, and leave the door open to matt in October where matt might get a chance to play finals, not a day before, whinging morons, no way these guys see finals for another decade, if they expect one matt burton will make a difference this year

If we really wanted to ruffle the Kennel, we should consider a player swap similar, to the ones that happened last season. (but not with the Bulldogs)

We could temporarily swap Burton for a forward.

I will just spit balling.

They can still lobby other clubs to organise a swap including a half.

I think even Gus would agree that whether releasing Burton is good for his development will depend on how the Bulldogs go this year.

He has often said letting kids play first grade in a a team getting flogged is no good for their development and that is why he signed "journeyman" (his words) to the Panthers when he was trying to rebuild the club. They need to be developed in an environment that is at least competitive, if not premiership winning.

It is far from clear whether the Dogs are going to be competitive this year or are going to get thrashed. Barrett has no proven pedigree as a first grade coach and the Dogs were not in good shape when he got there. It would seem to me, if the Dogs do get thrashed every week, Burton is much better staying at the Panthers and getting a few games. Even more so now that the club have proclaimed how important he is to their team, meaning he will arrive with a heap of pressure on his shoulders and will be playing in front of a bunch of fans pregnant with expectation. Fans are fickle. Just ask Josh Mansour.

Only time will tell who is right, but if they are soundly thrashed this year, Burton will be glad he stayed with us and come September, as he packs his bags, no doubt he will be looking at the small print in his contract.

Gus and Baz are close, Gould is always a little bias towards his friends. He has spoken many times about kids being thrown into grade to quickly. He literally just said they should raise the age limit to 21! If it were up to him Burton would be looking to debut this season rather than looking to take up a big money deal with the dogs. And like I said earlier he is quoted saying he wasnt going to let Luai go when he was not in the top 17.

Just a community announcement.

Shout out to the family and friends of young mate at Kingswood recently.

Ffs, smuggies, if you’re down, feeling upset, get some help. You’re not alone.

And as Jane and I say, stay the f**k away from illegal drugs.

This young bloke committed suicide, from bullying I say.

Yeah, I felt a bit upset about it as I left for work late this morning.

Puts stuff in perspective.
I've seen the end result of death via train, I seen it twice. It is confronting. I feel for all of the witnesses, the train driver, his crew, the passengers, the emergency personnel, the victim, and his loved ones. All are going to need on going support. This applies especially to the train driver, the young fella's friends, and family.
