Round 23 v Souths. Posts by @iamback are all opinion based

I still say if we go into a final with Jennings at centre, we lose

Momo and Naden was for depth loses only both are better than Jennings.

As for the doom, Is there a single person who thinks we will miss the 8 next year?

Looking behind us on the ladder shows how close the comp is, Only takes a few more loses and we are in that 4th-8th dog fight we are seeing now

That isn't even allowing for improvement from teams further back
Just to be clear it takes 5 losses ATM for us to go back to dogfight for 5-8. We have an easier game coming up agains the Warriors, while 4-8 are largely playing each other so it is likely we end up 10-12 points above 5th. That is 5-6 losses we needed to have this year to drop into that dogfight, or 20-25% of the total season. It is also tripling the losses we have this season.

Now I am not saying we don’t have more losses next year (it is hard to see even if this exact team stays together and plays at the same level we have the same reason because we have been extremely lucky with injuries this year), but it is a huge stretch to say we lose 20-25% of our total games without two players (considering one of those players was out for a quarter of the season last year and we were undefeated). Again I ask who on here is willing to put their hand up and say the corollary; that WTs will win an extra 5-6 games because they have Api coming, because that is the logical conclusion of some of the arguments made here.

I don’t mind opinions and I think it is fine to think that Api and Kik’s loss will be hard felt; I do as well, particularly in the way we play the game. We are removing a couple of our game breakers and so we are likely to become more of a ‘victory by strangulation’ team next year. But as I have shown above I think it is over-blown (and if people were really worried about next year it should be on the back of our depth continually being thinned).

What frustrates me (and I think I speak for Alice here and others as well who have shown obvious annoyance) is that the Api thing in particular comes up after every game and in (seemingly) every thread. And the way that is put across as ‘fact’ by a number of posters (despite them knowing that other posters disagree and then getting very defensive when people disagree and saying that they are able to have an ‘opinion’) does come across as a bit pompous and is both frustrating (because you feel you need to remind them of the other side of the argument) and quite frankly boring.

Agree with this 100%.

I'm just enjoying the ride while we're on it, and will worry about 2023 and beyond once the full-time whistle is blown.

Depends who those losses are against, Regardless is sides like the Sharks have dropped games that a top side shouldn't. So you have to allow for those chasing sides to also improve.

The issue is you are a good poster as far as having a conversation, Most who share your view about the loss of Api not being as bad. Often come back with things like, Trust the system, or things along those lines.

That doesn't allow a discussion as to why posters like me are wrong with our views. That is why I am here for the conversation as I am sure most people are too

I like to think that this forum represents the entire spectrum. From the DOOMED crowd to the blind faith, and everything in between.

I'm actually very optimistic about the future, but still think we could have done things better.
Api will be a big loss, but I still think that a Kenny/Luke combo will do a job. A different job to be sure, but I still see us being Top 3-4 next season.

I'll admit I didn't see Tago being able to fill the Left Centre spot, especially after our disastrous trial against the Eels. And while I think his attacking potency has dampened in the back half of the season I out that down to other teams having more footage to study. His defence and discipline has improved out of sight.

I really wish we could have kept Hopgood. Any other year, at any other club and he's playing 15-20 games a season. But we just haven't had injuries in his position, and he signed with the Eels early which put the big black mark against his name for the Origin period.

@ColdWetPanther This is a perfect example of a good post on the others side of the debate, It allows discussion and offers reasoning. Allows both sides to debate the issue without shutting it down, or attacking the other side

Hopefully we rest Api and Kiks this week and we can get a look at the new combinations, For me I had hoped we would have given more game time to other 9's and carried a 2nd rower on the bench

Telling others how they should be writing. Sounds like you're marking a student paper.

Where did I tell anyone how to write? I showed an example that makes the conversation continue rather than stop

People can post and write what they want, By the same token people can't complain that the conversation is one way when they offer nothing to change that

It's the tone of what you wrote Iamback. The 2nd part of of your first sentence is a dig, (I assume at me). Bascially saying that if you disagree with someone's comment. This is how you should structure your reply.

Again people can reply how they want, but if you want a discussion rather then a preach. Then I was giving an example to a poster that mentioned it

Again another dig.

So you're accusing me of preaching now.

Closing down a discussion by throwing insults.

Well done.

It’s a great post. What I like about it is he says it is an opinion (which implies that others can disagree), he shows that his opinions are fallible by admitting mistakes, and it is reasonably unrepeated material.

I know I could definitely learn to post more like this.

I will add IMO to every post then, Seems people are too thick to realise it is an opinion based forum.

Thread name changed to reflect this 😎

Maybe I could do it as a pro forma where you just fill in the blanks.

What I mean is cross out what's not needed.

Since I'm so thick.

Get over yourself, not everything is about you.

The post I replied to was one saying the people who think Api is a loss, repeat themselves and post it as facts.

ie me, @Smug Panther and anyone who hijacks threads.

The way around it is to instead is to post a discussion instead of things like 'trust Ivan'

Or not but the conversation will always seem one way if 1 side is commenting only

Oh I'm a full blown dickhead who does sometimes hijack threads but at least I know it
