Just to be clear it takes 5 losses ATM for us to go back to dogfight for 5-8. We have an easier game coming up agains the Warriors, while 4-8 are largely playing each other so it is likely we end up 10-12 points above 5th. That is 5-6 losses we needed to have this year to drop into that dogfight, or 20-25% of the total season. It is also tripling the losses we have this season.I still say if we go into a final with Jennings at centre, we lose
Momo and Naden was for depth loses only both are better than Jennings.
As for the doom, Is there a single person who thinks we will miss the 8 next year?
Looking behind us on the ladder shows how close the comp is, Only takes a few more loses and we are in that 4th-8th dog fight we are seeing now
That isn't even allowing for improvement from teams further back
Now I am not saying we don’t have more losses next year (it is hard to see even if this exact team stays together and plays at the same level we have the same reason because we have been extremely lucky with injuries this year), but it is a huge stretch to say we lose 20-25% of our total games without two players (considering one of those players was out for a quarter of the season last year and we were undefeated). Again I ask who on here is willing to put their hand up and say the corollary; that WTs will win an extra 5-6 games because they have Api coming, because that is the logical conclusion of some of the arguments made here.
I don’t mind opinions and I think it is fine to think that Api and Kik’s loss will be hard felt; I do as well, particularly in the way we play the game. We are removing a couple of our game breakers and so we are likely to become more of a ‘victory by strangulation’ team next year. But as I have shown above I think it is over-blown (and if people were really worried about next year it should be on the back of our depth continually being thinned).
What frustrates me (and I think I speak for Alice here and others as well who have shown obvious annoyance) is that the Api thing in particular comes up after every game and in (seemingly) every thread. And the way that is put across as ‘fact’ by a number of posters (despite them knowing that other posters disagree and then getting very defensive when people disagree and saying that they are able to have an ‘opinion’) does come across as a bit pompous and is both frustrating (because you feel you need to remind them of the other side of the argument) and quite frankly boring.
