Also, from the Sydney Morning Herald,

IF BUNNIES CAN’T STOP VICTOR THE INFLICTOR THEY WILL BE ROADKILL

The first time I saw Victor Radley play for the Roosters was an under-20 s match against South Sydney. The Bunnies were giving them a bath, but here was this bloke tearing into them as well as his teammates, screaming at them, trying to inspire them.

‘‘ Who’s this guy?’’ I asked.

‘‘ A local junior,’’ I was told.

‘‘ What? A local junior for the Roosters? That’s unbelievable.’’

I did some more digging and learnt he was from Bronte in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Over time, I’ve got to know Radley a little more and realised how much passion he has for the game and, mostly, his club.

It was always clear he was going to make it, first at hooker but now in that ball-playing lock role that really suits his game.

There’s been a lot said about Latrell Mitchell heading into tomorrow night’s match between the Roosters and South Sydney, but I reckon Radley is the one to watch.

Keeping emotions in check will be important in this one, but that’s easier said than done. You can’t tell a player like Radley or Mitchell to tone it down too much. That’s their personality. If they pull it back, their timing will be out even more. The problem is the way they play doesn’t leave much room for error, as we saw in last year’s match between these sides when Mitchell fractured Joey Manu’s cheekbone.

A lot’s been made about that tackle. People say it was deliberate, which is rubbish: he had Manu’s chest as his target and, at the last minute, Manu dropped and Mitchell hit him in the face.

Rain is forecast for tomorrow night at Accor Stadium and that’s a huge advantage for the Roosters. Souths rely on ball movement to get the job done, even though their attack is still very clunky. They took the Storm to golden point in round two, but the scoreboard flattered them. They were never in the game until the two sin bins in the second half. The loss of not only halfback Adam Renyolds but centre Dane Gagai was so evident against Melbourne. They created a handful of chances on the edges but couldn’t nail the last pass.

Souths must take some pressure off five-eighth Cody Walker and that comes down to hooker Damien Cook, who needs to get out of dummy-half more. They need more variation in their game, taking greater advantage of Cameron Murray’s play-the-balls , the quickest in the comp. The Roosters improved a lot against Manly after their first round-loss to the Knights. Luke Keary especially looked better in just his second game back from that knee injury. Joey’s tip: Roosters by 6. First try-scorer : James Tedesco. Man of the match: James Tedesco.

Hate. It's a strong word. It has a lot of meanings and it has a very strong meaning. Hate comes in various shapes and sizes, various forms, various feelings. It's caused by significant events that have happened in the past. Hate is a strong word and I don't use it often. But you know what? It's simply not strong enough to describe how I feel, how we feel, about the Roosters.

That's right!! It's game day!!! What a massive occasion it is tonight as we go up against our arch-rivals, our bitter rivals, in Round 3. Playing the Chooks is a big occasion on it's own but when you add in the fact that it's our first game at home since Round 14 last year, Cookie's 150th NRL match, and we really need a win; This game becomes absolutely massive tonight. It's as big as it gets for a Regular Season match. Huge occasion.

It's going to be a big challenge for us tonight, there's no doubt about that. I hate to say it, but the Roosters do have one hell of a side that will be right up there competing for a Premiership this year. As much as we hate them, we do somewhat respect them too and I'm sure they feel the same about us. The Roosters just have so much strike across the park with stars everywhere. Most notably Tedesco, Keary, Manu, and then a forward pack that includes JWH, Crichton, Collins and Radley. Absolutely despise them but you do have to agree with the quality of their side. We're going to have to be on our game right across the board to counter them tonight. I do think that with a bit of weather, this game will be won in the middle third and our forwards need to stand up and stick it to them.

As I've said, tonight is a massive occasion for us. What a game to have a homecoming and despite the weather, I hope we get a bumper crowd! I hope everyone that can make it, does! We need as much Red and Green out there as possible!! We really need a win tonight, you don't need me to tell you that. We've started the Season pretty poorly and have gone 0-2, I'd love to make it 1-3 tonight. And if this game doesn't get the boys fired up for it, nothing will!! It's the biggest rivalry in the game so I'm expecting a very fired up performance from us tonight. We need it. Hold the ball, complete your sets, execute and keep that defence tight. Build on last week. If we can do that, I think we give ourselves a chance.

There's been a lot of talk in the media this week from both sides about not getting drawn into the emotion but I have no doubt that once the players cross that white line, it'll be all on. There'll be fireworks no doubt. There always is and this game will be fueled by what happened last time we met. Something will happen again, you can almost bank on it and I just hope none of our boys do anything stupid.

114 years of bitter rivalry now. I don't care what anyone else says, I despise these wankers and I make that very clear every time we play them. Another chapter is about to be written in the Book of Feuds. Whether you're at the game or watching from home, fire up and scream your lungs out!! Let's gooooooo!!!!

Why Rabbitohs had the last laugh after Butcher turned to ‘dark side’

Christian Nicolussi

March 25, 2022 — 6.00am

South Sydney fans should be thanking bitter rivals Sydney Roosters for poaching Nat Butcher all those years ago.

It was well documented at the time a fed-up Souths booted the four Roosters junior clubs out of their competition at the end of 2016 after they broke a gentleman’s agreement and signed Butcher.
Souths Sydney Junior Rugby League CEO Luke Curry maintained on Thursday there had been a few little issues brewing between the two districts, but Butcher’s signature “was the final straw”.
What is not as well known is how Butcher’s departure fast-tracked the development of Cameron Murray.

Murray himself said had Butcher not left the year he did, he would have spent the year in SG Ball coming off the bench, and not in his preferred lock position that Butcher had a mortgage on.
“Just add it as another to the Book of Feuds,” Murray quipped.

“Nat was a year older than me, he was a Souths junior, I went to school with him in Year 7 and Year 8, I played with him when I was 15 in the Harold Matts, and a couple of years later when he left for the Roosters, it freed up the starting spot for me in the SG Ball side.

“It was one of my best years when I was 17 playing in the under-18s with SG Ball. But I wouldn’t have got that starting spot had Nat not left.
“I remember our coach Willie Peters telling us Nat was leaving. I was pretty shocked. I thought he was South Sydney through and through. Obviously he wasn’t.

“In hindsight, it was one of the best things that ever happened to me because it helped develop me faster and threw me into that No.13 position. We made it to the grand final that year. I was playing against older players, which was good for my confidence.”

Souths were happy to accommodate the Roosters juniors because of their small demographic. Curry, however, said all bets were off once Butcher, as well as Paul Momirovski, who will both line up for the Roosters against Souths on Friday night at Accor Stadium, were wooed across to the “dark side”.

“We didn’t boot the Roosters out of our competition, we just let the agreement end and never renewed it,” Curry said.

“The Roosters will claim we tried to get Angus Crichton, which we did at the time.

“The battle between the two districts will always be there. They will try and claim we poached Angus Crichton from them, even though he had only played a couple of games for their SG Ball side.

“We’ve certainly got no regrets with how it all panned out. We’ve got Cameron Murray, a local junior who is now captain of the Rabbitohs and has played for NSW and Australia.”

We didn't turn up for 65 minutes against Melbourne, IN Melbourne for Craig Bellamy's 500th with Grant and Munster returning, yet we still had the opportunity to win. Roosters in round 1 got towelled up by Newcastle and didn't look amazing against Manly. I have hope

Well here we are! A day we have been waiting for, for a long time like 9-10 months now. Our return back home and what better way to return home than coming up against our arch rivals our enemies! A hate is not a word I use lightly but that’s exactly how we feel when it comes to the Roosters. A rivalry that stretches back to 1908 a rivalry where the hatred has grown stronger as each year goes, a rivalry that is a strong as ever. Nothing compares to me in sport to the rivalry of the Rabbitohs vs the Roosters. I don’t think I need to tell you all to get up for this game it just comes naturally when it comes to playing these filthy rotten pricks! It’s a game we all mark on the calendar each year when the draw comes out. Going to be Damien Cook’s 150th game tonight as well so I’m sure he will wanna go well and all the boys to do it for him and to take some pressure off JD too getting that first win tonight is very important. I think JD has his parents that have flown down from QLD too so we need to do it for him also.

Looking at us we need to keep building on the last 15-20mins last week when we held the ball we all saw what we could do. We absolutely must stop the silly errors tonight and have a good energy in defence. As JD said the emphasis needs to be on the forwards stepping up more in the middle so then the halves have more opportunity to do their thing. Also our kicking game must improve and our last tackle options. I’m happy that Paulo is back on wing and Milne is at centre this is the move that had to happen. The first 25-30mins will be vital we can not afford to start slow. Then there is the fury over the Trell incident last year I am sure the Roosters will have some words with him out there and try to bait us at some point and out us off our game but we can’t come down to that level and get distracted. Building pressure for us all will also be key to not force passes.

Looking at the Roosters they have strike all over the park as we know, Teddy, Manu and Tupou in the backs, Keary and Sam Walker in the halves and a a very strong forward pack. We need to be on alert at all times and work for one another in defence and stop the offloads HIT EM HARD SMASH EM AND FORCE THEM INTO ERROR! So yeah it needs to be an 80mins performance ftom us tonight and I know we have it in us.

We really need our members and fans to lift as well we need to drown out the noise of the chookpen in their little corner we need to get that South Sydney chant up and going at Accor Stadium and we need to BBBBOOOOOOOOOOO and do all we can to get the boys some extra penalties and six agains lets all make sure our voices are heard.

Ok Rabbitohs members and supporters as we look down the tunnel here at Accor Stadium we can see the away team the Roosters starting to make their way down the tunnel, Rabbitohs members and Rabbitohs supporters please give a warm South Sydney welcome to the Sydney Roosters..... A crazy stat here from Bloke in a Bar,

In all our meetings with the Roosters since 1908, 248 games, just three points separates us. Yup, THREE points!!

We have scored 3855 points to the Roosters 3852.

Now that's pretty damn crazy if you ask me!
