I reckon we will challenge them & it will be a good game but yes if they are going to beat us , beat us by 40 so it makes the board put a red line through his chances of a new contract . Problem is the board will select Young or Hornby as interim coaches and on the basis we nearly made the 8 this year gave them a 3 year contract !

Vinnie, I am with you mate. I get no joy out of putting my thoughts out there on this issue, but I do not see an alternative if we want the goose gone. The BOD almost have to be humiliated into getting rid of him. How is this? McGregor has coached us for longer than Wayne Bennett did; and Bennett wanted 5 years and we said NO. It is nauseating.

I have no issues with his passion and loyalty I really don't but it goes like this .... he just can't go to the next level ... (He just has no plan B or refuses to be pushed to a plan B) He just can't read the game and or have a plan to block the opposition plays .. nothing changes, our plays, our lines, our defense its always the same and barring injury his selections never change !! Ever !!!
Are we really the only club that can't produce juniors ??? do we really need to always look elsewhere ?? Are field, lomax, Dufty, Kerr, Luc, Robson really that bad ?? I don't think so
He really has produced/prooted/improved no juniors at all (Bar Dufty and only because he could no longer resist playing him)
Maybe he needs help/coaching or whatever to get to the next level fine get him some just do it but i can't take the fact that he refuses to listen and is oblivious to what we all as supporters want and thats not much we just want to see our best players picked and if players aren't performing they should be dropped ... it's that simple. Don't insult us by making selection changes when our seasons over please respect us just a little bit more than that ... and if the coach and Millward and BOD can't do that then F$#K off and let us get people who can.

Broncos: Not surprisingly, coach Anthony Seibold has retained the same team that handled the Cowboys 29-10 last week, with all 17 players getting through the game unscathed. Payne Haas and Matt Lodge are unavailable through suspension.

Dragons: Coach Paul McGregor isn't panicking after an 0-2 start, making just one change to the 17-man team beaten 34-18 by Souths last week. Korbin Sims returns from injury and has taken Josh Kerr's place on the interchange bench. No sign of a return for Origin backrower Tyson Frizell, who remains out indefinitely with a lacerated testicle.

Are there some big wraps on Sauni-Esau? He looks to have pushed his way into the Canterbury Cup team.

Gelling with Dragons' spine tough: Hunt
By AAP
St George Illawarra's Ben Hunt admits captain Gareth Widdop's switch to fullback has made it difficult to combine with new halves partner Corey Norman.

Dragons coach Paul McGregor's decision to move Widdop from five-eighth to No.1 this season has come under fire, with the likes of Andrew Johns calling for the Englishman to return to pivot.

The criticism only got louder after the Dragons slumped to a 0-2 season start following their 34-18 NRL loss to South Sydney last week.

Hunt admits he is yet to work out how to complement Norman at five-eighth and Widdop at fullback ahead of Thursday night's NRL clash with his former club Brisbane.

"It is pretty difficult (combining with Norman), especially when you put Gaz in the mix as well," Hunt said.

"You've got the three of us all trying to create and do different things.

"You've got to work out the best time to inject yourself and the best time to step back and let the other players do their job.

"We just have to find that balance and complement each other."

Asked if he was confident Widdop would fire at fullback, Hunt said: "He's a weapon no matter where he is in the team.

"He is one of the best players I have played with. You have got to have him in your 17 somewhere.

"Whether it is six or one he is going to do a great job for us."

Hunt was confident the only way was up for the Dragons' new-look spine.

"It is coming along OK. Obviously it can be a lot better," he said.

"We have had patches where I thought we were really good and working together.

"And there have been different times in the game where we sort of fell away a bit and didn't stick to the gameplan.

"They are things we have to fix up, but we are working every day to try and get a feel for each other - I think we will only get better."

Hunt looked forward to earning "bragging rights" against his former club after helping the Dragons down Brisbane twice last year - including a 48-18 thumping in the 2018 elimination final.

But Hunt predicted the Dragons would line up against a very different Brisbane this year with new coach Anthony Seibold at the helm.

"We got a couple of good wins on them last year but I feel like it is completely different this year," he said.

"They have a new coach and are playing completely different football. It's kind of a fresh start for them."

Albert Einstein's definition of insanity comes to mind with Mary sticking to a backline formula that has landed him a perfect record of failure-strong chance of him keeping that losing record intact against the Broncs.

It beggars belief really. He really is a self righteous SOB. He is by a fair margin, the worst coach we have ever had since I have been following the Dragons since 1971. He is turning me off the entire club. There is a group from the Sunshine Coast who travel down to see us play the Bronco's and Titans each year and this week 60% of us have pulled out of going on Thursday. The BOD and this goose are killing the club. It is becoming a Shakespearean tragedy.

Go the Broncos. I hope they put 60 on us because this is the only way to get rid of the McGregor virus that has infected the entire club.

Craig Young & Steve Price both worse than MacGregor. Dragons by 8.

Latimore backs Graham as Dragons prepare for Broncos clash
Dragons Den
r0_400_4870_3138_w1200_h678_fmax.jpg

Vocal: James Graham. Picture: NRL Photos.

St George Illawarra forward Jeremy Latimore has spoken out in support of teammate James Graham after the recent controversy over Graham's comments on concussions.

Graham penned an article that was published on the Dragons website on Monday in response to heavy criticism from Peter FitzSimons over comments the Englishman made last week.

In his response, Graham detailed his research into head injuries & Latimore said he hopes rugby league players would speak up on important topics more often.

"Honestly, I think players should speak up more," Latimore said. "I know some of the reaction from it's been really positive and really good.

"It gives you a bit of an insight into how some of us as players think and feel.

"James is obviously known for being a brute and a tough man on the field, but he's actually a very intelligent and articulate man.

"I don't think he was happy with how he felt his character was assassinated. He's come out, made his points, he wasn't rude to Peter, he just said how he felt as well as offering solutions for a sensitive issue in the game."

To many outside observers, Graham can seem like a hard-headed Englishman. Latimore understands this perception, because he admits he also held those beliefs prior to joining the Dragons.

But as the article showed, Graham is a deep thinker on the game's biggest issues and Latimore said this is reflective of the wider rugby league playing community.

A director of the Rugby League Players Association, Latimore has first-hand experience of the many passions players pursue outside of rugby league.

"Rugby league's a small part of our life. A lot of us do study and do other things.

"I know fans would love it if more players were able to come out and speak what they're feeling. We are passionate about a number of things that go on in our game and in the world.

"It could be the start of something, James could be the leader in a new wave of journalism."

Latimore's comments came as the Dragons flew to Brisbane on Tuesday ahead of their Thursday night clash with the Broncos.

Facing an 0-3 start to the season, St George Illawarra will welcome reinforcements in the form of Korbin Sims, who has finished his two-game suspension.

Coach Paul McGregor has opted to use Sims off the bench, with Blake Lawrie retaining the starting lock position. Josh Kerr has made way for Sims, just a week after making his NRL debut.

Sims inclusion is the only change McGregor made to the side, with the coach standing by his embattled spine.

Sims' older brother and Dragons teammate Tariq said the team must tighten up their defence if they are to defeat Brisbane.

"We're zero from two at the moment and our backs are against the wall," Sims said. "We've got to make sure we're on our toes.

"We need to fix our defence. We're leaking way too many points. Everyone's goal is to defend their goal line and unfortunately we've been dripping a few too many points."

"It's no secret we're down on troops, Korb's injection with his experience in the game will definitely help. I think when he comes on the field, he's going to be really excited."

Wouldn’t use the last game as a gauge on broncos form, it was the derby game and they always lift for it, were probably somewhere in the middle of the storm game and the cowboys game. If the forwards go it will be a close watch

All along i have advocated that our team is good but our coaching staff is not. i support the team but not the setup. It doesn't mean you have to be negative about every single thing the club does.As i said our record against the Broncos is good and in this day & age of the salary cap consistency is an issue so a side 0-2 has a lot more to play for than a side 2-0. I am on record in saying that our 2 performances in the semi finals last year saved the coaches arses.

Yep pretty spot on.
Other coaches wield the axe after 2 losses (Pay), one even changes the spine after 1 game when it performed not well (Cowboys)..not our Mary.
To defy all critics and justify he is doing the right thing Mary will cling on to any stat and rock which highlights him and the team favourably whether it will be excuses or deflections (i.e poor me and the team) or a performance in the past or one half of football (e.g. first half last week)..or what happened at some stage last year so we can do it again etc etc
Lot of people talk about that 1st half against Souths on how good we were and looked like a Top 4 team yada yada.
Watched it again, Souths were flat and slow (for complacency reasons especially after their 1st easy try) and we were not that much better except our 1 out running made yards but our structured attack was not that good either. We squandered chances and made quite a few errors.
Yes I know...glass half full stuff but looking at everything as a positive does not win a lot of games and premierships...over to you Mary our beloved leader
