A big point of this discussion re Dylan IMO is salary cap. Dylan signed his contract extension around this time last year when he was injured and the lockdown had started, correct me if I’m wrong on that but I’m pretty sure it was in that period between rounds 2 and 3 when everything had stopped. At that point his last full season was 2019, his worst season so far. He hadn’t had that great 2020 bounce back yet and he was injured, his contract would’ve been a lot less then he could get right now imo. When you factor in the clubs salary cap pressure and who else we have off contract in the next two years well it becomes even harder. If Critta or Staines gets a run and shows a lot of potential at fullback I really doubt they’d move or drop Dylan this season, they just might not try very hard to keep him come the end of the year when he can get offers from other clubs. If one gets a run and does the job better(extremely unlikely I know) over a number of weeks they will pick the best team.

We don’t have a lot of players off contract at the end of this season but a lot of high earners off contract the following season.

it is widely suggested Kurt Capewell may be headed home at the end of this season, Mitch Kenny may wish to explore his options elsewhere in order to secure a starting dummy half position elsewhere. Brent Naden although i would like to see him retained is probably unlikely to be offered a new deal and then there are the players who were brought in this season on 1 year deals all of whom are playing for there NRL careers.

The big one is Tyrone May, he is on very good money and is cleary an Ivan Cleary favourite. It will be interesting so see what happens with Tyrone moving forward. He is probably the one who has the most impact on our salary cap if we do re-sign him.

While getting the win is the priority.I will be disappointed if we don’t win by 20 or more

I was probably more confident about the Storm game. There’s just something about this game, that make’s me a little apprehensive. Two players out of our spine albeit we have high quality replacements in Kenny & Crichton but at some point there’s gonna be a hiccup I just hope it is not this week against a side who I agree we should beat comfortably.

I dont disagree with any of the above. I still think we should be exploring options to retain Brent Naden he is terrific value for money given his rather modest contract, even if he is not guaranteed automatic selection in our top 17.

The issue with Crichton is we have paid big money to retain him, possibly as much as 600K a season if you believe the figures quoted in the media. That’s a lot of money for a kid, after one terrific season, so we need him to perform at a level consistent with his pay cheque, whether that is in the centres or in another position.

With Naden all depends on the young guys.

Tago and Turuva may over take him as cheaper options too. So I'd wait and see how the season plays out as someone will likely offer him stupid money.

As for Crichton. Still has some development to come. He can kick but we haven't seen it. He still bombs plenty of tries but defence is coming on.

So I'd wait and see with moving him

Kenny said he wants to stay. The issue is Kikau and Fish need an upgrade so likely pushes others out

Yep it was pre comp re-start. I don't see how he stays after his contract because someone will go hard

As for who replaces him. Depends who develops better out of Turuva ( Staines ) or Tago ( Crichton) I'd move whichever one's depth comes along better

Naden is playing for his future whether it is with us or elsewhere. He is great value for money in the 250-300 (Max) so i guess it is up to him once he gets back on the field.

Throw Tyrones brother into the mix as well as a youngster coming thru Brent has made life rather more difficult than it needed to be.

Read an article somewhere saying he wants to stay but at the same time wants to start which entirely understandable but not likely to happen while ever Api remains at the club.

Taylan May, Tago, Turuva and Jenkins are all looking really good right now. This time next year they could all be ready to go imo. This is my frustration with Nadens nsw cup suspension, ive one of his biggest fans since he debuted, I know a family friend of Naden father and he speaks very highly Alf Naden and his father, he is from their town. But Naden is under pressure right now not just from our top 17 but he’s got kids coming for the depth spots. From what I can see he is very likely going to be surplus to our requirements by next season. He really needs to establish himself in the pecking order and get his shot in fg to prove he is still a valuable asset.

Personally if it does go that way I’d prefer to pick the best fb out of Staines and critta and then fill the hole they leave. Between Turuva, May and Tago we should be fine.

We might not have to. I get your thinking but looking at his personality(from the outside) I’ve got a feeling he might be happy extending early if we come up with a decent offer.
The advantage for us is he already is on big money .So a upgrade may only be a extra 200k on what he is getting we have to find.but a rival would need to find the full amount

Interesting one is Tago, i really no nothing about him given there were no junior comps last year. Currently playing centres in NSW Cup but his profile on our main site has him listed as a second rower so i assume that may be where his future lays.

Yep and many players will stay at one of the top teams for a bit less than other clubs could.

If he tests the open market I think he will be very hard to keep, I don’t think we could match the biggest offers he would, but he seems very happy here so we definitely would have a chance.

I know very little. He was playing lock In sg ball team last season he scored three tries against cc roosters. He has jumped from a couple sg ball games last year to a fg contract and nsw cup this year so he must’ve impressed them pretty highly.

He’s got three tries in his first two cup games though a couple of good running tries breaking tackles on his way and the game I watched his post contact metres were very good for an 18yo. He is fg bound for sure it’s just a matter of when and what position as I agree he could end up a backrower.

Should be the best fit for the side and cap the worst thing we can do is pay fullback money to a winger or a centre.

Capewell should be covered by Burns talent wise in the 17. Should the same happen to Edwards you want to not leave too big of hole covering them

Good thing is Tago is playing left centre already so should be able to slot in as would a winger for Staines

Anyway that is a 2023 issue
