Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

What's the bet there will be an article with the toffs talking about "bringing Valance home" after that debut? Parasite code.
I know you don't truck in facts but Valence was last playing semi-pro in NZ, one step above amateur club rugby - there's going to be no calls to bring him home. Plus, in NZ rugby is the everyman game, not the toffs.

@taste2taste Warbrick isn't really a convert, he has always played both codes.

Edit: Just realised I clicked on the thread and wound up on Saturdays page - hence the out of date reply.

Ahh I think you have misunderstood me friend. Now that Valance has a name in the NRL I expected Rugby Australia to target him. Nothing about NZ.

Are you sure you're not T-Boon in disguise? Because that's T-Boon level stupid.

Lets play Rugby LEAGUE all year, then pick the best players for the Wallabies to go and play UNION at international level? Sure, why not?

BTW, when corporates merge? They sometimes combine the biggest strengths of each side to make a better new combined entity. But mostly, one just takes the assets of the other and continues doing what they did before.
Well yes of course take overs and mergers are different. My revolutionary visionary idea clearly shows how there could be a place for both rugby league and rugby union in their respective best forms to continue existing while working together as a single entity.

All Union players eligible to play in the NRL. All League players eligible to be picked for the Wallabies. Best of both worlds. It would improve both the NRL and the Wallabies.

If people were rational and logical they'd support a merger of the Australian rugby world. What happens when corporates merge? They combine the biggest strengths of each side to make a better new combined entity.

What is rugby league's advantage in Australia? The domestic scene. What is rugby union's advantage? The international scene.

So what is the logical solution? Pool together all the money and resources both sides have. Play one great domestic rugby league competition that combines all of the best union talent into the NRL. Then allow everyone to be eligible for selection for the Wallabies and play rugby union in international competition.

That is win win. Think about what your enemies would hate you doing. How much do you think the AFL would hate a Union-League merger? How much do you think the all blacks would hate a Wallabies team with a much bigger talent pool to pick from?

This is the way forward.

I know the joke you're going for but he wouldn't be eligible for the Wallabies for another 4 years. I don't think even their Chair is that stupid.

Meanwhile the cucumber mob have stopped reporting crowds at all
Looks like they only report crowds if they are above 6k, you'd have to assume all the games listed TBA had crowds under 5k

And when they do report crowds they are exaggerated, apparently this game had 25k..despite the fact the stands are more than half empty :/

How would the NRL benefit from having Dunkin’ Donut union forwards playing rugby league? They would be shocked that they have to get up and play the ball quickly instead of rolling around on the ground for a few minutes. After about 10 minutes in an NRL game they would be carried off for an emergency can of corn…

I’d nominate this for dumbest post of the year but don’t think there’d be anything to rival this .
so dumbest of the decade contender for sure .

Looks like you're not alone with your idea, even an English rugby tragic is suggesting a code merger ( fast forward to the last few minutes of the video )

actually think that a "merger" at junior level would work (though would require buy in from union types)

The modified rules of junior rugby league up to around U10 are not to dissimilar to the modified rules of junior union e.g. no rucks/mauls or even scrums and less players on the field. The focus is mainly on running, passing and tackling.

Then at around 10/11 the clubs can then go into either league/union comps with the more technical aspects

The win for union clubs in league heavy areas (most of the country) would be that they get to play more locally and potentially get more junior players as kids/parents may just choose the closest/most convenient club. They could also attract older players if the club is well run. There would be a similar win for league clubs in places where union is similar or stronger e.g. northern sydney as there would be less travel for kids and the could potentially attract more players

That would be FUN!!!

The rules would be easy:
- RL points system to encourage Trys over goals (5point RU try would be ok too)
- contested ruck
- Defence doesnt withdraw past the ruck
- Limited Rucks (6 downs) and a handover
***maybe add in the 4&10 Gridiron rule for restarts to encourage running over kickyball***

It would be so interesting to see what RU would look like today if NU had split but kept the same rules as RFU

Without the anti-RL mindset, RU would have evolved to look a lot more like League today

But it didn't and it isn't. Complete conjecture, could've, would've, should've.

Haha, Ive just always loved alternate histories.

Seriously though, if we wanted to look at a partnership, American Football would be the way to go.

The forward pass makes it trickier from a player skills level, but Gridiron 7 would be a good bet
