Api was going to the dogs until Ivan called and brought round to his house for a chat and convinced him to come to Penrith both Ivan and Api have said this.

Who is coach matters for if a certain player will get game time or play in a position they want.

Should Burton, Staines etc leave they will be starters regardless of where they go. So Barrett staying or not has no influence whatsoever

We'll keep the ones we want, and will let the rest go if they want... I don't see the problem. It's not like he's going to poach Cleary, Api or Luai or anything.

It always hurts a little more when they are players who we have spend a lot a time, effort and money developing but I guess we accept we cant keep them all so it is what is.

Yeah its tough watching the "kids" come thru the lower grades and make their first grade debut.
Only to see their value go thru the roof and for us to have let them go.
Only hope is that we keep the best ones.

Hetherington, meanwhile, has informed suitors Manly and the Warriors this week that his future does not lie with either club after being given permission to explore a move from Penrith.

Canterbury now loom as favourites for his signature should a release from his 2021 Panthers contract come about, though no formal offer has been lodged by the Bulldogs.

Talks are scheduled to continue next week between Hetherington's camp and both clubs.

Penrith are loath to lose the 24-year-old but won't stand in his way if he can secure a longer contract and regular NRL game time elsewhere.

Incoming Bulldogs coach and current Panthers assistant Trent Barrett looms as the trump card in potentially taking him to Belmore.

Hetherington's desire to stay in Sydney is understood to have ruled the Warriors out despite enjoying his loan stint with the club this season.

Reading between the lines he was going Warriors but then Barrett convinced him on the dogs. Maybe something to what @herbert henry1908 said

Different circumstances he is going. Just the club is the question. Hetherington isn't a walk up starter in those cases coach matters. Burton or Staines will walk up start at anyone of 6 clubs in those cases who is coach doesn't matter

Ultimately regardless of the honeydicking tactics, both guys have a choice, get paid tomorrow to play for a club 4 years away from being competitive or back yourself to be a role player on a perennial contender and earn a bumper payday via premierships and rep jerseys.
