Money talks. If Laundy makes an offer he can’t refuse, there is nothing we can do.

Except produce another Matt Burton.

This is the reality we live in.

At this stage those guys are depth. So short term there are guys available we can get to replace them. Long term is where it will hurt but there is time to plan the next one up.

Too many desperate teams buying

I would trust in our incredible pathways to churn out all the outside backs, middle and edge forwards we ever need. Fullbacks also never seem to be an issue for us. Halves and hookers of the quality of Cleary/Luai/Burton/Api don’t come around so often. I’d rather lose Naden, Staines, May and Hetherington than Burton.

I also think the fact that we dealt Blore, who most touted as one of the best forward prospects in a long time, without issue, have let Tamou and probably Hetherington find a new home, suggests there might be some truth to both Burton and the club seeing him as a long term lock.

That is true, however, who would want to go to that basket case?

Barrett is getting the chance to sell himself to the Panthers players that he can turn things around on the field for the Dogs next season.

Then throw in large offers plus the chance to start in their preferred positions, it’s not hard to see Staines and Burton leaving their mates to join the Dogs.

Staines maybe, Burton, nope. Also Blade's post, he seems hopeful, and he is usually on the money.

I'd say there Burton absolutely goes for the right money to play half. Spine pays much better than forwards.

This.
Throwing a lot of money around can sometimes be enough to coax a youngster far and wide. They don't think like older heads who have been through the tough years of losing and want no more of it.
Doesn't mean its the best option but some can't resist the promised starting spot and extra coin. Even at a shit club.

I don't begrudge the young ones leaving. I am sure every young player has Jharal Yow Yeh and Simon Dywer in their minds. Careers can be short and chances few. Best at times to make hay while the sun shines.

Some stay and bide their time because they want to learn. Others leave because they are impatient and fearful of missing their one true golden chance.

Maybe he is close to staying, and that is why the Dogs are bringing in the Daddy Big Bucks for one last shot of bullshit of how things used to be at the Dogs.

I would be surprised, and disappointed, if Matt does leave. The Bulldogs job has the potential to end Trent Barrett's coaching career.

Burton will not go. I trust Blade, and he stated that he is close to re-signing.
We can’t match the money or offer him the position he wants Staines wants way more than we can or should give him .The dogs are desperate Hethrington is on good money all 3 I feel will end up at the dogs

It’ll be terrible PR if we lose 3 players to the dogs. The club can say what they want, but the look of having your current assistant poach players isn’t good.

Again, I disagree. Also, I know that we can not match the money on offer. We are winners, the Bulldogs are a basket case.

We’ve seen it first hand so many times. Incredibly talented juniors come into grade in a shit team with a shit culture and mentors (be that senior players or coaching staff) and they never reach their potential. If Luai hadn’t been patient and went to the Warriors or something I there’s every chance he spends all his time playing behind a smashed pack and he doesn’t get the chance to find his feet like he has.
As others have said you could never begrudge these guys taking the money and securing their future, but I think the smart move is clearly to stay at the good club for a few hundred grand less, play a supporting role and likely secure a much better career like so many former Storm players have over the last 20 years. Not to mention if Burton or Staines stick around and play wing/bench/lock there’s every chance the fullback/five eighth spot opens up in a couple years and they are suddenly in the spine for the best team in the comp.

It was reported that Hetherington knocked them back.

Here's the article:

The Sea Eagles have all but sealed Keiran Foran's homecoming in the unfamiliar position of hooker on a one-year deal but Jack Hetherington won't be joining him on the Northern Beaches.

NRL.com understands that Manly and Foran are close to confirming a 2021 contract for the Sea Eagles premiership winner, with an option in the club's favour for the following season.

An official announcement is expected early next week.

Hetherington, meanwhile, has informed suitors Manly and the Warriors this week that his future does not lie with either club after being given permission to explore a move from Penrith.

Canterbury now loom as favourites for his signature should a release from his 2021 Panthers contract come about, though no formal offer has been lodged by the Bulldogs.

Talks are scheduled to continue next week between Hetherington's camp and both clubs.

Penrith are loath to lose the 24-year-old but won't stand in his way if he can secure a longer contract and regular NRL game time elsewhere.

Incoming Bulldogs coach and current Panthers assistant Trent Barrett looms as the trump card in potentially taking him to Belmore.

Hetherington's desire to stay in Sydney is understood to have ruled the Warriors out despite enjoying his loan stint with the club this season.

The Sea Eagles are still in the market for a front-rower after Addin Fonua-Blake's own Warriors move freed up a sizeable chunk of salary cap space to work with. Before that, Foran is their immediate priority.

Manly's roster has been a focus since Fonua-Blake's exit became public last week, with fellow big man Taniela Paseka upgraded on an extension until the end of 2024 and Manase Fainu also re-signed for another two years.

Foran's return has prompted club officials to tout a shift to hooker for the veteran playmaker.

The prospect of rekindling his halves partnership with Daly Cherry-Evans had caused angst around Josh Schuster's future given he has been touted as Manly's long-term five-eighth.
