Ivan has said they have a long term plan for him. I believe it whether the player and Manager with the time frame is the issue

Yep, I know. But you’re not getting much game time or money from a long term plan. His manager will never go for it.

if we really want to keep him we should be selling him on the idea of playing centre next year, not these far off plans of being a ball playing lock. Prove himself at centre, then maybe he can get a shot at fullback or in the halves.

Maybe not completely wasted, but only 250 mins of footy at his age isn’t great for his development. Not sure he’d want to do that two years in a row.

Compare him to Sullivan that played today for Dragons. Just as promising only 12 months younger and has 80 mins of footy to his name in 2020. It is how it is this season with no lower grades

Thurston wasn't signed on crazy money though. They had the cap space to build around him. GC are about to find out how it limits the abilty to fill out the roster

Proving my point that players will leave for game time. Thurston was on the bench behind established halves, he was too good for that.

Blade has been on the money in the past.

Time will tell. His stint at the Sea Eagles was ordinary.

I have no doubt that Blade is on the money about Burton, I’m sure the Panthers want to extend him and have made a good offer that he’s considering. But there are factors that are beyond our control.

Was Barrett ordinary or was the club a toxic hole that was being ruined from within?
I wouldn’t take much notice of his time at Manly and I’m sure he learnt a hell of a lot out of that experience.
He’s a great coach, no denying that, he needs the club and players to back him.

Unless you can comment on what is actually ordinary scout his coaching?

Just what he did at the Sea Eagles.

He played centre yesterday and word is he was doing that all year. We kept winning was one issue. Never going to change a winning side and never gets to prove himself in a game situation

It really doesn't. They have a very short time to earn money and they're out in the working world with the rest of us. Also the majority don't get 5 years+. People overestimate how much us being successful will effect contracts.

How did going to a weaker club help DWZ? Or Bryce hell even Peachey. The only one I can think of that it worked going to a weaker team is Ponga

Well, he played left centre. Which is another problem we face. He’s a natural left sided player, the potential position that will be open is right centre.

DWZ doesn’t have a quarter of the talent Burton does. Burton plus a few other astute signings could potentially turn the bulldogs around. Not top 4 or anything, but at least being competitive.

I remember people saying differently back around 2014 when all those guys burst on to the scene.

Better than nothing. We had a good run with injury that won't happen again. He could quite easily start 10 or so games in various positions next season in a winning team

Yeah but you’re not selling him on playing under 21’s. It won’t be a factor at all in re-signing him. He needs to develop his game, the only way that’s happening is in FG or a good reserve grade comp.

Nah. DWZ came in as a winger, Burton came in as a half. Burton has kicking, hand skills and running that DWZ never had.

DWZ could’ve been a better player than his career has shown, but he never had the talent of someone like Burton. Maybe if you were comparing him to Staines, but not Burton.

That article says they already had the bulldogs ceo out there to see the parents which means they must already have some idea of what is being offered to them.
But is it true? After all, it's a NEWS Corp article in which the SMH hasn't reported anything about Staines or Burton getting approached.

But we also have to be mindful that from the media, between now and if potentially the GF, there will be barrages of bullshit to try to unstable our quest.

The thing with Burton he wasn't even the best half in that Ball team. He often played a few positions Trindall was the one that was the star of the side. So it isn't like he was a half and only a half

DWZ came as a winger that everyone wanted in the 1. Look at Ash Taylor then another half that was hyped up took a payday with a struggler and has been ordinary since

There is a list a mile long of cases where promising player tries to skip a few steps. Ends up with more cash but doesn't get to any great level
