Tetevano was off contract for 2022. So moving him doesn't help that

Is he being greedy though? We have yet see actual figures he is asking for

Handshake deal or not. The new manager starts in Oct.
He isn't going to talk to anyone while the finals are going on.
Then Crichton went into the SOO bubble. Again Crichton is out of action for 3 weeks

So even if the plan is to honour the original deal still would be dragging out

Tetevano being moved on helps the players who want an upgrade for next year before they re-sign. Blade said there were a couple seeking an upgrade before they extend.
Tetevano also had an option in the club's favour for 2022. I am sure the club had that factored in the 2022 figures when they signed him.

Crichton, Yeo, and Luai making the rep team was unexpected, which no doubt increased their values. That is money we didn't have, and now suddenly need.

I wouldn't believe the figures Crichton is asking for. It is all media and manager spin.

Addo-Carr went in the Origin bubble. Didn't stop him re-negotiating with the Storm for an increase for the last year of his contract. Then weeks later signs with the Dogs.
Deals can be done quickly. There is a reason for the delays. It is not the late finish.

Smug Panther,

You do realise this information is over 6 years old

So no one (in your opinion) should be ever given the chance to stop re set their life and start over ?

I am in no way condoning what Zane did in 2013. Far from it.

He served time. Hopefully whilst doing his time he learnt his lesson.

Surely when a person does their time they are allowed a 2nd chance.

To my knowledge ge hasn't re-offended.

Addo-Carr before the season started discussing coming to Sydney. Then stopped when the finals were coming but again he is an established player. IMO the best winger in the comp easy to discuss terms

How do you know Crichton's ceiling? Do you go a smaller base with rep bonuses? Or do you you go the larger deal assuming he hits the elite status over the next 4 seasons?

Same goes with Luai and Leinu... so easy to see how it drags out

Not to mention To'o took 6 months to re-sign. Edwards. Staines, Martin already had deals sorted. Over the course of the season

12 guys off contract. Most of whom in their early 20's and are drawn out processes

In this case no. There are some occupations, e.g. teachers, police, etc. where mistakes like this would mean they can not work in that industry again. Zane should have done prison time. He should not be playing in the NRL either.

You can't know Crichton's ceiling or Leniu's. Not this early. You can overdo it and get burnt.
Too little, manager comes knocking again while contracted.
Bonuses get you into trouble.

I'd rather it drag out abit now then get burn't in a couple of years. As long as the job is done and we have a strong squad then front office did their job

For me. Any criminal conviction should be banned for life and not this rubbish no fault stand down.

Go through the legal process. Get charged be gone BUT NRL see if different. So we are only hurting ourselves by not signing the best available players

I’ve seen first hand the work Zane has done in the community with troubled teens. This has stemmed from the help he received and the courses he undertook after his arrest.

He did the wrong thing, no doubt, but I’m pretty certain that he has steered many teenaged kids away from the same of behaviour.

Not many people can say they have achieved that, god knows I haven’t and I worked in that area for a year.

I think we can cut the guy some slack and wish him well. I know some people aren’t capable of that and it’s a real shame for them, because Zane is a really good guy.

Thanks Luke for that information.

That is so very good to know.

I'm a great believer in 2nd and at times 3rd and 4th chances.

Has it occurred to you, Luke, that some of us, me included are victims of domestic abuse. This in turn, makes it extremely hard to forgive, and forget.

To be fair the no fault stand down comes before the conviction so they aren't connected.

Luke,

it sounds like Zane was able to use his arrest as a basis for turning his life around. It is good to hear that this story has had such a positive end.

Sadly that is not always the case.

Moving on from DV is hard very hard, knowing this from personal experience.

It is one of the most dreadful crimes that sadly runs across all socio economic situations, from the very wealthy to the very poor.

Of course it’s not always the case, but generalisation helps no one. Part of rehabilitating a criminal is convincing them that are actually capable of changing, gross generalisations are the enemy of this.

I believe we should reward those that are able to change and become a positive influence on society.

Those that can’t, well they get the hand cuffs and jail cells.

These are my thoughts on the matter anyway.

Solid player unlikly to hit first grade unless a huge injury toll
Upside is he is on minimum wage so it’s a win situation for the club

Always liked Ava. Very solid player and extremely popular with his team mates. He had some insane stat where he didnt make a handling error for 3 years or something. Keep in mind Ivan didnt renew his contract when at the Tigers so not sure he'd be bringing him to Penrith.
