The guy that wrote this has clearly just plucked some names out, no quotes etc. I can’t see the dogs re-signing Sharon Woods after paying for him to leave previously!!

Yeah I agree. I was highlighting more of Matt's situation. Any player would be mad to go to that club. It could be career suicide.

What you can't do is overpay for forwards unless they are so good they can win you a competition.

This is something we have regularly done during the Gus years. Hopefully that ends with Tamou since we also got rid of Merrin and RCG. Also not much point paying decent $ for wingers or centres unless they are truly exceptional.

Anyone else also get the feeling that when the time comes, we are going to offload Kikau?

Maybe, but the money spent on Tamou was worth every penny. You can see how his professional attitude rubs off on the other players. We needed somebody like him to set an example and lead from the front. You have to pay overs until you are a club with a successful track record and then players want to come to you and will accept a bit less.

Now we have JFH and Yeo leading the way, in deed and in attitude. If we can keep that progression and maintain the culture, hopefully we never need to go out again and buy big name forwards.

I agree about wingers and centres, there are a few like Morriss, Mitchell, and JAC who are worth extra as they can literally win you games. Guys like Too and Mansour can lose you games, but aren't match winners in the sense they can create something from nothing like JAC. That said, Too and Mansour are worth more than the average winger because they create a tremendous go forward at the start of our sets. That does give us an edge when it comes to field position. Those two always put their hand up for work, it must be great as a forward to see these two little dynamos running straight at players like JWH or Haas without fear and then drive them back a few metres each time. Little bodies, big hearts.

Kikau is hard to judge. His best moments are atg level, but he's very quiet for long periods of time. In previous years you'd chalk it down to a misfiring spine but this year doesn't appear to be any different. Theres also some worrying defensive misses creeping into his game, albeit likely fatigue related.

We always benefit having a decoy of his threat level, but I'm not sure its worth breaking the bank if someone throws monster money at him. At the end of the day there's at least 5 players I'd consider more important to the squad.

Kikau is one of those guys that doesn't know how good he can be. He could be a monster every week not every few weeks as we see now. That said he is still learning the game
There will be other ways of finding dollars for kikau when the time comes.
Tetevano and capewell could be moved on as a start.
I have always thought that the team has used kikau wrong, he has had to many minutes and a lot of just throw it to villy and hope for the best situations.
He has been very good this year after being managed a bit better on the field, as part of the attack and not “the” attack.

We’ve been using Kikau as a decoy a lot this year, so whilst it may seem he’s not doing a heap, just his presence is creating opportunities.

He could very well command top 5 forward money, though. So it may be hard to keep him. Personally I’d have him over David Fafita, and look how much money Fafita got.

Guys like Capewell or a really hard worker like Martin have Ivan written all over them. I think back to 2014 and remember names like Adam Docker, Lewis Brown, Sika Manu, Matt Robinson, Elijah Taylor, Isaah Yeo. None of them were world beaters but just did the job. Few of them were quite versatile being able to cover centre. Or even Peachey who at that time filled a number of roles.

For that reason I think Kikau would be lower on our priority list. He doesn't seem like a typical Ivan signing. Still a very good player who should demand big dollars.

I agree with what you are saying here and just want to add that Capewell has scored 4 tries in just 7 games this year.

I really think he is underrated on this forum.

when we signed him he was fielding offers from more than a few clubs.

It’d be foolish to change what’s been working. Kikau is a huge part of our attack, at the very least we need to make him a solid offer.

How many were from falling on grubbers though? I don't hold up those tries anywhere near those where the player brakes though the line OR contests a kick in the air.
