Agree Pou- Gutherson wont start in our team rnd 1 .He will be behind Gordon-Taka-Semi-Morgan-Falou-Faraimo-Moss. He will start at Wenty and you would think force his way into the team.
Hoppa would make every teams backline-Perhaps not at centre but on the wing.

Cost and potential thou? Gutherson still may be a bust. Hoppa is proven just overpaid.

Seriously? The bloke we've just signed for 2-3 years that was the first choice back up in probably the most star studded backline in the NRL before he was injured, is now going to be behind muppets like Folau and blokes on 2nd tier deals in Faraimo and Moss?

As you know, a player option is a good way to keep the price down (in the earlier year/s) just like a club option is a way for the player to get more money up front.

The option should be in our favour and 100% depend on his coiffure de jour.

Agree Clint is way ahead of the muppets.

It'd still be nice to get another centre so that we can ease Gutherson back into first grade with him playing on the wing. If he has signed with us, then he needs to be in the team. Wonder if we could do what we did this year with Morgan and Hoppa? Have Morgan defending at centre, Gutherson defending on the wing and then swap them around in attack.

Wallabies might score 1,000 tonight vs Uruguay.

But seriously, we dodged a bullet with Quade Cooper. Wota tosser.

EDIT: Exhibit "A"

Morgan should be captain of Wenty. He can come and play with the NRL boys when if/when we have injuries.

Yep. If he's coming to Parra he will almost certainly be in the top 17. Otherwise why leave Manly? He doesn't have to go anywhere.
The chance to play first grade might be a good one??? Even if Juda's goes to 6 he as still a borderline starter. Fully fit he walks straight into our back line.

1.Snake
2. Tafua
3. Hiku
4. Matai
5. Tom T and that is if Lyon does go to 6.

Hopoate is a proven first grader plus a current Origin player. He's certainly a better centre than Gutherson. If he goes to Manly they can move Lyon into the halves and Hopoate could form a pretty good combination with DCE and Trbojevich on the right.

Agree but gutherson is better value (assuming he wouldn't be on more then $200k). Hoppa on 800k would be the worst player value wise

I was thinking this might happen actually.

Hoppa was never on $800k and never will be. He's probably worth about $300k to $400k and Manly would be paying the lower end of that range (under the cap anyway). How much can they pay John to coach SG Ball three days a week?

I agree but had he stayed it looked like we would need to pay him 500-800k. Gutherson at 200k (which is a complete guess) is better value

It only looked like that if you believe the stupid figures thrown around. What a load of shit. All clubs know what players are generally worth, and they have a good idea of what those players are worth specifically to them (i.e. a club with greater need at a position should be the club offering the most for a player at that position).

We might have been the most desperate for a big name outside back in 2011 (when we signed Hopoate) but no way were we $800k/year desperate. Though I could see us offering $500k (which is still overs but the only way we could have signed such a player in the face of rival clubs).

Agreed, and IMO $200k is a pretty good guess. I reckon we've offered about $400k over two years, with the majority of it in the second year. I'd say he is on about $100k at Manly. Signed while off contract and with a season ending injury, they would have got him pretty cheap.
