I respect people's opinions, and I understand my statement is controversial, but in my mind, Hayne is a freak and a once in a lifetime talent.

Your opinion is as valid as any league expert. You also happen to be 100% correct. Hayne is the best player we have nurtured since the golden generation of the 80's. To suggest anything else is a nonsense.

That's a far point - but like lingers said, Ken "The Mayor of Parramatta" Thornett never won a title, but he has a stand named after him, and those fortunate enough to have seen him play day he was the greatest.

Forget Hayne's captaincy or his off-field antics - his attributes are incredible. The size of a forward; the speed of a back; and the skill of a half. I have not seen too many Eels who combined all these traits so well.

And I certainly can't recall too many Eels who won World Cups and NSW's best player in different positions to where they play at a club level.

Absolutely agree. He is an amazing player.

I am constantly baffled and amazed by the way he SEEMS to saunter back to the defensive line, and still shrugs off tackles and makes half-breaks. And then be throws those crisp cut-out passes, makes try-saving tackles, kicks field goals, cleans up kicks, kicks in general play...

He is a genuine star of this club, and of the code in particular. I am stoked he's an Eel.

Hayne could be amazing if he could find his form from 6 seasons ago. He needs to get more involved and do something. He's got it in him if he applies himself again I think.
Or maybe he's best days are but a distant memory.
Don't get me wrong, he's still a star but he could be so much better.

Has it been confirmed that McKinnon will be a quadriplegic?

The report I saw said it is likely, but there is a small chance he could be ok.

I certainly pray for him and his family. What a horrible outcome.

Fair enough.

Let's hope he can stay fit this year and we might see the best of him.

This is the way they were talking about it before. The drs say as of now he is a quadriplegic. They will only talk to him about how things are now they will not give him any hope at all as they are only interested in the now not the future and don't want to get anyone's hopes up. However his spinal chord is not severed but very badly damaged, he could breath unaided when it happened and he also moved 1 of his arms. Make from that what you will.
Sterlos voice was breaking up as they were talking about it, the saddest piece of rugby league news I've ever heard.

Also to the very few bulldogs fans that heckled the poor kid that was involved in the tackle on Alex, real poor form. I wanna say what else could you expect from dog fans but that would be unfair to the 99% of them that didn't say anything to him

Yeh. It's worth remembering that 'quadriplegic' doesn't necessarily mean total paralysis in arms and legs, it can refer to lesser degrees of affliction in each. It's obviously an awful situation for the bloke and his family though.

And yeh (again) the only bloke I'd be tempted to boo (and I don't think i'd do it) was the dick who, even after it was clear a serious injury had occurred and a report had been made, wanted to argue with the ref that it was the tackled player's fault. But, I guess even he might have worked out what a dick he looked by now. McLean, on the other hand, may deserve a short penalty for lifting, but he has been trained by a club that has brought the following 'improvements' to the game 1) the crusher 2) the chicken wing 3) the grapple etc.

Hope Alex gets as better as he can.

Sad news about young Alex McKinnon.

It is a tough sport and this isn't the first time it has created a quadraplegic although hopefully it is the last.

Has there been another one since John Farragher in '78?

He would also come a lot cheaper than what the Dogs were forking out, he's probably lowered his price up to at least 200k.

How much more would the Dogs have had to offer (over their competitors) to get him to agree to terms in the first place? That's how much his price will have come down by. I doubt it's $200k. Why would the Dogs have to offer that much extra?

By the sounds of his contract a lot of it was made up by 3rd party, would any other club seriously be looking to pay a prop that much money???

After his i should have went to Yawnion comments maybe 3rd party sponsors weren't willing to pay the money to a bloke who doesn't want to play RL in the first place. Cronulla would be nuts to pay overs for him.

Cameron Smith has to live with that for the rest of his life (whether he cares is another story, I guess), all for the sake of a f**king penalty........low, low, human being IMO........

As for Alex, I hope he can have some quality of life in the future, it is just too sad for words :(

3rd party deals are organised by the club and not the player nor his manager

The player manager is responsible for additional personal sponsors of the player, ie Adidas with Hayne. That's a deal set up by his manager and not the club

The club instructs the player manager what portion of the deal is provided by the cap and what the club can source in 3rd party deals.

3rd party deals is a major issue at our club at the moment.

Well then its simple, f**k off 3rd party deals and go with 4th party deals instead. Then we could sponsor the CIA, MI6, KGB, ASIO, Mossad, Taliban, Cisco, NATO, EU, UN, NASA, WTO, WHO, BIIA, AIIA, White House, Federal Reserve, Fort Knox, Papal City, etc... What are we waiting for????
