ok I looked at this year to show he was a bench player that plays low minutes but your the stat person why dont you look how many minutes he has played in the last 3 years. It might not help your argument which is why you probably wont![]()
I don't think minutes are a good gauge when comparing two different positions. He spends time in the middle, where there is a lot more involvement per minute. Plus he is the bench utility. You'll never play a whole game starting on the bench.
I also like that you ignored my comments about Harrison who started a whole year (19games) over buhrer even though they are both RHS players.
Sixteen games (I'm the stats guy, remember?) is not a whole season. But one guy who did play a whole season that year was Jamie Buhrer, who played 26 of Manly's 27 games, including all three finals matches. Harrison wasn't seen again after round 19.
You also ignore the fact that I said Watmough could play on the LHS and Buhrer in the middle similarly to how Edwards was moved to the LHS for Paulo to play through the middle but yet they chose to play Horo for 80min and Buhrer for 30. If Buhrer was as valuable he would start fullstop!!
What a load of shit. Watmough moved to the middle in 2011 and Manly won a premiership. Why would you move Watmough back to the left where he is less involved?
The fact is Buhrer plays lock and right side second row. At his current club he is stuck behind two internationals. But they keep him in the top 17 (and this will be his fourth straight year in such a dominant side's top team) because he can play.
What you also fail to consider if Horos ability to run decoys and kick chase game which Buhrer is fairly poor at.
Anyone can run a decoy, and a kick chase is only as good as the tackle at the end of it. Buhrer is a much better defender than Horo.
Anyway even if Buhrer is equal to a Horo or Harrison they are both fringe first graders at best, gap fills if anything not quality first grade players. Buhrer is on the same level, while his experience and versatility could be useful be is not worth pay more then an average wage.
He is worth about $300k which would be more than he's on at Manly, and only slightly less than we could get him for. We'll pay him overs but not too much, and he'll be a good signing. He could play 80 minutes every week for us and protect Sandow in his final year at the club. Plus he would add plenty off the field or I doubt Arthur's would be looking at him.
Jamie Buhrer is an established first grader, no more. But that is something we are lacking at our club, especially at Buhrer's position. He's worth a two year contract.
