ok I looked at this year to show he was a bench player that plays low minutes but your the stat person why dont you look how many minutes he has played in the last 3 years. It might not help your argument which is why you probably wont ;)

I don't think minutes are a good gauge when comparing two different positions. He spends time in the middle, where there is a lot more involvement per minute. Plus he is the bench utility. You'll never play a whole game starting on the bench.

I also like that you ignored my comments about Harrison who started a whole year (19games) over buhrer even though they are both RHS players.

Sixteen games (I'm the stats guy, remember?) is not a whole season. But one guy who did play a whole season that year was Jamie Buhrer, who played 26 of Manly's 27 games, including all three finals matches. Harrison wasn't seen again after round 19.

You also ignore the fact that I said Watmough could play on the LHS and Buhrer in the middle similarly to how Edwards was moved to the LHS for Paulo to play through the middle but yet they chose to play Horo for 80min and Buhrer for 30. If Buhrer was as valuable he would start fullstop!!

What a load of shit. Watmough moved to the middle in 2011 and Manly won a premiership. Why would you move Watmough back to the left where he is less involved?

The fact is Buhrer plays lock and right side second row. At his current club he is stuck behind two internationals. But they keep him in the top 17 (and this will be his fourth straight year in such a dominant side's top team) because he can play.

What you also fail to consider if Horos ability to run decoys and kick chase game which Buhrer is fairly poor at.

Anyone can run a decoy, and a kick chase is only as good as the tackle at the end of it. Buhrer is a much better defender than Horo.

Anyway even if Buhrer is equal to a Horo or Harrison they are both fringe first graders at best, gap fills if anything not quality first grade players. Buhrer is on the same level, while his experience and versatility could be useful be is not worth pay more then an average wage.

He is worth about $300k which would be more than he's on at Manly, and only slightly less than we could get him for. We'll pay him overs but not too much, and he'll be a good signing. He could play 80 minutes every week for us and protect Sandow in his final year at the club. Plus he would add plenty off the field or I doubt Arthur's would be looking at him.

Jamie Buhrer is an established first grader, no more. But that is something we are lacking at our club, especially at Buhrer's position. He's worth a two year contract.

At first I could see reason for the burher talk but when you consider players available and coming through, you could realistically cover the many positions that burher could logically fill in 2-3 times over....

Hooker: peats, Pritchard, zdc, Edwards

Edge: ma'u, Edwards, tanginoa, Pauli, ualesi, folau, loko

Halves: sandow, Norman, Hayne, zdc

Centre: hoppa, tonga, morg's, loko, folau

Fullback: Hayne, hoppa etc

I know the expected retort is zdc and Pritchard aren't proven but I hold it in the same regard as burher's origin and grand final reasoning.

I personally prefer every single selection above before I do burher's as well.

He need to be cheap, unlikely, or the greatest leader of men, also unlikely.

You're relying on about half a dozen blokes with about a dozen NRL games between them. Just having ability doesn't mean they will become first graders. There is plenty of time for these kids to fail to cope with the pressure and fade away into nuffyhood.

Experience might be overrated when it comes in the body of a 35 year old, but a guy in his mid 20s with 100 NRL games is a genuine asset. We only have three of those at our club right now. Another one surely can't hurt.

Burher is worth consideration before June for this year. The guys listed are a year older and for the most won't have been rushed through the system, they should have half a dozen appearances in 2014 and with an ounce of luck injury wise it'll be on the terms of the coaching staff.

You'd think the probability of these guys would be stacked in our favour too as we only need a couple of them to be better than burher for the sake of this comparison.

He won a premiership on 2004.

You know that has nothing to do with what eele is saying. He wont be considered a club hero for Canterbury, He will for the NQ Cowboys where he hasnt won anything. Thats the point Eele is trying to make.

That's what I meant, yes.

Even our own Nathan Hindmarsh never won a Premiership, but he's not out of place in discussions for the greatest ever Eel.

I personally think Hayne is the greatest ever. He's injury prone, but he's just so damned good.

Not that is in the pipeline, but Fifita's wife worked at my company, and they still live in the Blacktown area and she hated the drive he had to do to get to Cronulla

She said , with a smile, would be good of he played for Parra as that would suit the family , but money will be the decider

We don't need him mate. Not for the money he wants anyway. He also comes across as a knob and we just got rid of the biggest one of them all in Ricky Stuart.

Ken Thornett never won a premiership. I think more than Hayne not winning a premiership (which he may never do) is the competition he is up against for best ever Parra player. Guys like Thornett and Sterling and Price (in particular) and Mick Cronin, would all give Hayne a run for his money.

Cronulla and North Queenland are in the unenviable position of never winning a premiership.

We had fantastic players, two or three that I rate in front of Hayne, that won premierships. I think a premiership/s certainly come into the equation when trying to decide a clubs greatest player.

That's a far point - but like lingers said, Ken "The Mayor of Parramatta" Thornett never won a title, but he has a stand named after him, and those fortunate enough to have seen him play day he was the greatest.

Forget Hayne's captaincy or his off-field antics - his attributes are incredible. The size of a forward; the speed of a back; and the skill of a half. I have not seen too many Eels who combined all these traits so well.

And I certainly can't recall too many Eels who won World Cups and NSW's best player in different positions to where they play at a club level.

I respect people's opinions, and I understand my statement is controversial, but in my mind, Hayne is a freak and a once in a lifetime talent.
