Brisbane with barba (though he is still on his bulldogs money this year and hardly a gun) and Hodges
Manly with stewart and Lyon (towards the end of their careers)

So really there is maybe manly but not for much longer...and us
Who else?

Stewart- Lyon
Barba- Hodges
Minichello (wouldn't be in cap for much though)- Jennings
Slater- chambers (wouldn't be on a heap, but those two combined would be about Hayne and Hoppa)

Other teams have quite a bit of money in the backline.

Seems he learnt a bit on that topic in melbourne and on the peninsular.
Best of all is that the style of play is pretty unique amongst the current crop. Kearney came with one game plan - Melbournes. Stickys was to try and not lose by 40 each week.

Did we copy Melbourne's game plan in 2011 or 2012?

Yes we will, Gaz.

1 Lyon
2 Jennings
3Hodges
4Matai
5.Morris
6. Whare
7 Tate
8 Idris 8 Dylan walker / Hoppa-Chambers-Hurrell-Whigton-Linnet-Gagai-

I'd go more like this hindy,

A year ago hodges would have been higher.

Most would interchange up ad down other than lyon.

Not much between the next tier and any of them on their day are up with the best

The other caveat is that inglis and hayne are better than all of them if considered as centres.

Out of all centres in the NRL to have played over 10 games this year Hoppa has missed 42 tackles.Thats the second most by any. Remember defense is a big part of the game. Linnet has missed only 9 same as chris lawrence.Tonga - 14.
Tate 16
Lyons 15
Matai & Morris similar
Anything under 20 is quite good. Not many have missed over 30.
about 50% i reckon, give or take.

FROM WIMPS TO WINNERS

Parra rise to Arthur's challenge and prove they won't be pushed around by anyone this year

BY STEVE MASCORD & TONY ADAMS

PARRAMATTA STAR JOSEPH Paulo has revealed coach Brad Arthur challenged his forwards to prove their toughness against the best in the business before last Sunday's 10-point win over Canterbury.

While Arthur stresses his ambivalence to records and history as he rebuilds the Eels, the coach-of-the-year candidate is clearly not above using the perceptions of others to motivate his men.

"We wanted to test ourselves against the best," Paulo says. "We've heard all week about how tough they were, the Doggies, so we wanted to...gibe it to them. We manipulated the way they were playing - job well done to our forwards."

"We've been told we can only win at home so (Arthur) tried to change our mentality, about bringing the same toughness that we show at home, bring it here."

Parramatta have been out-muscled and out-enthused all too often over the past two wooden spoon seasons. Not this year under Arthur, though.

"He's really creating an identity for our team," Paulo continues. ""He can't teach us to be tough. You've just got to go out there and be tough. It was a good opportunity to not only show him, but show the opposition, that we can be tough."

Eels legend Brett Kenny believes the win over the Bulldogs represented an important psychological victory for the underdog Eels. "Everyone has been saying, 'They can't win without Jarryd Hayne' and I must admit I thought the same - I thought the big Bulldogs forwards would run over the top of them," Kenny says.

"But they were brave and tough and showed they can step up and win big games even with Jarryd. I'm happy he was missing in the end because they will get a lot of confidence out of winning without him."

Kenny has also been blown away by the improvement in Chris Sandow's game this year. Like ht rest of the Eels, Sandow is playing tougher...and showing great mental strength to overcome his well-documented demons.

"You have to hand it to Brad; he has worked out how to use him," Kenny says. "Chris is never going to be a Peter Sterling-type half who organises you. Brad is getting Corey Norman to play that role and Chris can just play off his head, which is his strength."

"He is playing tougher, too and isn't a speed bump in defence like he was at times in the past. He has come up with some good tackles and clearly has his heart in the game now."

Meanwhile, despite being linked to a departure from Pirtek Stadium, Paulo says he is determined to sign a new contract there.

"I definitely want to stay here at Parra," he says. "Now Brad's here, I really feel like this is home. The blue-and-gold fans have been awesome to me. It hasn't been sorted yet, I'm just waiting for my manger to do all the negotiations.

Most Improved Player - Ben Hunt

Most Improved Side - Wests Tigers

Biggest Surprise Packet Player - Manu Ma'u

Manu Ma'u from the Eels has come from rugby league obscurity to making some very big plays in the big games. While he has a long way to go in developing into the complete package, no-one can miss his power running and heavy hits. The Eels will definitely miss him now he is out with an arm injury.

Most Disappointing Player - Sam Tomkins or Ben Barba

Most Disappointing Team - Newcastle Knights

Best Rookie - Semi Radradra

Semi Radradra showed glimpses in seven games last year, but has really given the Eels a second attacking force in 2014. He leads the comp for tries, is fifth for tackle breaks and eighth for line breaks.

Worst Attacking Side - Cronulla Sharks or Newcastle Knights

Best Defensive Side - South Sydney Rabbitohs

Worst Defensive Side - Canberra Raiders

Biggest Surprise Packet Team - Penrith Panthers

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Chris Sandow

When fans found out Chris Sandow would be playing fullback for the Eels, confused looks were shared. But they shouldn't have worried. The pint-sized start made two linebreaks, a try assist, four tackle-breaks and ran 112 metres. A pretty handy substitute if you ask us.

FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS

Best Try - Greg Inglis vs Brisbane (Rd.8)

Most Valuable Player - Jarryd Hayne

The Jarryd Hayne of 2009 may never fully surface again, but the 2015 vintage is pretty close. Hayne had unhappy stints under Stephen Kearney and Rickey Stuart, but Eels coach Brad Arthur has unlocked the enigmatic fullback with spectacular results. He's mixed supreme offensive displays (like his demolition of the Sharks in Round 9 and then the Dragons in Round 10) with grittier, tougher performances that aren't as flashy but jsut as vital. The try-saving tackle on Sonny Bill Williams in the Round 6 win over the Roosters took a commitment and toughness that Hayne hasn't always embraced, but has had in spades this season.

Biggest Surprise - Ben Hunt & Trent Hodknson

The Lazarus Award for Best Comeback - Chris Sandow

When Sandow was dropped by Ricky Stuart at the back-end of 2013, many assumed the cheeky halfback's top-grade career was dead, or at least on life support. But a stint away from the game, a big pre-season under new coach Brad Arthur and a little time in NSW Cup has done Sandow a world of good.

Since he was recalled in Round 4, Parramatta have gone 7-3 and knocked over premiership big guns like the Roosters and Panthers. A dangerous man with the ball in hand and unfailingly enthusiastic, it's hard not to love the goal-kicking, ball-playing, fist-pumping wizard.

The Josh Dugan Award for Most Likely to Kick On - The Warriors

Best Game - Origin 1

Coach of the (mid) Year - Ivan Cleary

Rookie of the (mid) Year - Luke Brooks

Revelation of the (mid) Year - Pat Richards

Best Buy - Jamie Soward
