And a guy with his ability could easily play fullback.

Obviously Trent Robinson doesn't share that view. Otherwise they would be looking to keep him now that RTS is heading to the Warriors. Also, the Roosters are apparently about to extend SKD's deal at Bondi, so that reinforces the notion that they only view Tupou as a winger and not versatile enough to play fullback or centres IMO.

I disagree - I think the reason is they don't want to pay big bucks because Latrell Mitchell will be their fullback sooner rather than later.

Only thing Tupou wouldn't offer is a slick passing game.

How about work rate off the ball and smart decision making? If we're going to go with a fullback who is just good in the air and with a strong carry we may as well stick with Hopoate. At least he can pass.

I see no reason why he wouldn't have a strong work rate off the ball - he works hard enough with the ball to suggest he will be fine off the ball.

Decision making is an unknown quantity.

But Johnston would be in the same boat.

Just my stupid uneducated and often-drunk opinion, but in no universe will Tupou ever play fullback consistently for a good team. He is slow. And ungainly.

Well, he's not Reece Robinson quick, but he seems fast enough (certainly seemed quick when he ran 90m last year at Pirtek).

I don't remember that. :D But it isn't so much about pace, or I should say it isn't just about pace. Tupou is a bit of a barge, lacking agility. In my mind, fullbacks need agility - and pace and probably power - to be successful these days. That's aside from the ball-playing skills that so many tell me they need (hey, I suggested Morgan might be a decent back-up fullback, and was pilloried). So I dunno, it's just an opinion.

Yeah, it'd be strange if you sign him though with Watmough, Moeroa and Mau. You guys should be trying to sign a prop to go alongside Junior Paulo for the future.

Sorry mate, I was being a bit sarcastic as this was mentioned a week or two ago. I too think it's a little bit strange, and that prop definitely needs more bolstering than second row.

As I have mentioned before, if they reduce the interchange you would want 80 min players who are mobile and fit.

Watmough would thne have a stint at prop

I think he's an out and out winger, doesn't seem to have the all round game for a FB. Most good fullbacks now days are also ball players.

Sometimes when you move players around you can leave a void where you move them from, in this case on the wing.

He would probably be worth a lot of moolah compared to most wingers so I can see an argument for getting more out of him by playing him at FB but I just dont think its in his game.
