Little thing called the salary cap makes it difficult to just hand anyone their debut.

It's only round 3, but people are expecting a slew of debutantes already? Really? At round 3? Do people realise how insanely impractical that is?

I see it as similar to the Peats suspension in round 2 last year - by round 3, there is no point in blowing your second tier cap, hence top 25 safe bets in Morgan and Toutai (though apparently Toutai is out).

Goodall, Lavaka, et al will make their debuts in time.

Dargan is 17 turning 18 this year, he's yet to play or even train with the NYC squad. He's certainly a fantastic prospect but to expect him to play NSW cup in 18 months is laughable.

Or did you mean "Wenty" so he could be playing RMC or SS by the end of this year? If that was the case then we usually put our best SG Ball talent into Guildford not Wenty.

Latter half of 2016 Dargan will be nearly or already 19. He has to shift Luke Kelly from Wenty. I meant Wenty - if he is good enough.

We are expecting 18 and 19 year old halves to come through and dominate but history suggests most don't mature until 25/26. Ben Hunt is case in point from the NYC system. Most top halves had brilliant patches but consistency was not forthcoming until they had matured. Forwards are similar, some not maturing and becoming consistent until late in their careers. I still think the NYc system should be scrapped and allow the Reserve Grade competition to be the feeder system like it should be. Expecting youngsters to show consistency early in their careers is what f**ked the club in the early nineties.

18-21 for backs if there a star. 19-22 for forwards.
20-22 for halves IMO. Thou i reckon a half doesnt become a solid performer till about 23/24

wouldn't he have been let go when Nolan was at Parra seeing he played under 20's at Parra in 2010 and 2011?

He wasn't let go. He was off contract when Nolan arrived in 2011 and the Roosters outbid us. We already had the world's supply of wingers in our top 25 and they didn't. This is how previous decisions impact your recruitment/retention.

We're using NSW cup more and more to bring in players. The only player that I can think of that has come into first grade without playing NSW cup whilst Brad Arthur has been coach was Pauli Pauli, and now he's back there anyway. Junior Paulo even spent a month and a half in Wenty before playing first grade last year.

And Tep scrapes in on a technicality, he played a game before his NRL debut. But we're seeing Goodall, Lavaka, Folau, Newbigging, Kamicamica, Matterson and even Crooks all playing NSW cup or lower to fine-tune their skills before being brought up to first grade.

I too think it's ridiculous to think that a 20 year old will be able to handle the regular NRL competition. It is only very rare that you see this happen.

19 is still very young for a half. Especially one that's looking to be a dominant half, which Dargan is.

19 is young, but Luke Brooks made his NRL debut at 18. I am suggesting Dargan will be ready for NRL in 2017 so he should play against men in NSW Cup next year.

Oh and Pou your hypocrisy on player payments is ridiculously mind blowing.

You have been bunging on about us tying up to much of our salary cap in one player and that teams with that much tied up in one player ala the Cowboys and Thurston can never have a balanced team good enough to win a premiership. Bla bla bla bla bla...

And now we sign Foran for the same coin and you don't seem to have a problem with it at all and actually seemed pleased with the situation.

Well what has changed Pou? We had the worlds best player in our team, but you always whinged and whinged about our inability to balance our squad because of him.

Now we have a very capable, but hardly the worlds best player, and you seem at the least, content. :? No dramatics???

Foran is half the player Hayne was and would be on about half as much money.

You're welcome.

So every young half should be compared to Luke Brooks? And every young half should be on the same development path as Brooks? We won't know when Dargan will be ready for first grade. If we think he's good enough we'll put him up a grade and we'll hold onto him as long as possible.

If you can hide them in wenty the longer to develop so when they step up they hit the ground running. This would be ideal as contract would cost less. Brooks is good but not complete.Tigers will be paying overs for him while he is still developing.

Brooks started early like Sandow, because like Sandow he is quick.

Cherry-Evens is nothing special for speed and made his debut three years after Sandow, despite being born in the same year. Obviously he has gone on to be the better player overall.

Of course not every young half should be compared to Brooks, just like every young backrower shouldn't be compared to Klemmer or Tepai but there are those that stand out as being ready to play "above" their age and make the transition to FG earlier then the norm.

Dargan has the right wraps on him to make me think that he will be ready earlier then most.
I may be wrong but would be exciting to see us finally bring through another young half. It's been a while.

Brooks though is still finding his feet at NRL level. He looks good at times but pushes passes at others, trying to score off every play. Defensively he has a lot to learn. They need to stick with him but as the season wears on he will struggle.... He certainly is talented but he has much to learn.

Interestingly penrith only have two local juniors in their backline just like us this week

True thou Mansour did come from south he debut there. They do have Jennings boys and waqua blake to step in.But hey so do we.

Plus its unfair to not count SEMI.Sure he did not come thru our system but we still indentified him and brought him across. He is in the top 5 wingers in the competition

He is big, will make good meterage rucking it out (so important in the modern game). Skillfull, but seems not to ever be fully engaged in the game. Not express off the mark, but once moving, the big train can chug.

Someone else might have a better take
