Luai was the best player at the world cup and dragged a rotating spine cast of CHT, Danny Levi, Milford & Nu Brown to the final. He's played his role in a team built around Yeo/Cleary perfectly. He should not have been picked for Origin this year, he was dreadfully out of form for the first half of the year and Freddy's gameplan and in game adjustments were non existent. I don't think you can draw too much from Luai's performances in Origin this year, although attitude wise he seems to cross the line in Origin while being a pest without going too far in club.

Penrith's success is underpinned by the culture built around this team and its a pretty once in a lifetime balance that produces such consistently high levels of play, above the sum of the teams parts. Nath is clearly a key cog in that. He gets injured and he is absolutely livid, his drive is insane. He's going to be mad that he's given Moses a look in at his Blues jersey when he gets back as an aside. Edwards is a huge part of it, his work ethic and heart is unmatched. Fish, Martin & Leota bring the aggression. Luai brings the energy, the mongrel. I don't know how well we go if you take out a key ingredient.

Origin should be the best players available in their position who can perform in big games regardless of age.

If Cody is still a gun at 35 you pick him.

Rep games are not for succession planning.

Of course you need to plan ahead. That's why the decision not to pick Burton at centre was ludicrous. He's a better centre than Best anyway.
Why do you think Cooper Cronk used to play 14 and even come on at lock?

Sure did I love international footy, shits all over Origin. Cody is now 6 until he finishes but he's old then it will be Burton
In 2021 Nathan and Luai were going to be NSWs halves for the next decade. Cody had a similar game to what Luai did in Game 2 2022; three games in and Luai is dropped.

NSW doesn’t do loyalty or succession planning.

Agree with the Cooper Cronk thing; watched the Marty Johns Podcast for this week (the only thing worth watching on Foc outside the games) and they spoke about his introduction to the squad. Resonated with how these used Ponga early. I thought that we should really be introducing Hynes in the same way.

As for the Burton thing, the kid has got his payday and gone backwards. The most important years of a players formation and he is wasting them.

Do you feel any compulsion to report these crimes (tax evasion, fraud) to the authorities?

They're not crimes.

The salary cap is tenuous in terms of legality since it's a restraint of trade and the NRL has no access to players tax returns.

Along as they declare any money over the cap to the ATO no crime has been committed.
