It’s obviously for the dollars and really can you blame him if they’re throwing crazy money at him? If he takes it and goes there though on the big $, he’ll be expected to be the main guy.. not sure he has that in him.

600K probably not worth it now at age 26, but at 30 maybe, problem is we won’t have the chance to see that cos he is gonna jump.

Again, not cos we wanted him but cos he took the dough. Good on him. But don’t say mooney and Fitz get who they want.

there’s a salary cap.. something has to give sometimes. Who in their right mind would stay for say $350k when they could get $600k 10 mins down the road?

Agreed.

I love Tommy as much as the next guy, but I think he's a prime example of Fitzy's question of "does he have another level in him".
I'm really not sure Tommy has.

He's great playing second fiddle, but I don't think he will ever be a pack leader.
As with all the others, I want to keep them, but not prepared to get into a bidding war to do it.
If the Dargons are offering upwards of $600 a season, good luck to him. But that's more than I'd be prepared to outlay at the moment.

I personally don’t hold any grudges for Tommy jumping ship.

As a prop forward you get absolutely bashed each week in the NRL.

He’s leaving for a massive pay upgrade not just a few extra dollars. He’d be crazy not to take it to be honest.

I think one of the things at play here is the number of minutes we have available, and what we can therefore justify spending on those minutes.
Counting loose as a middle, we’ve got 240 minutes of game time to cover. By my reckoning, AFB and Cam cover at least 120 of those minutes each game. Leaving 120 minutes to be covered by BHU, Toby, OK, Tommy, Tuks and Sifa (more of an edge cover, but in reality, Brit and Tieg should play 80 - though there’s a question whether Sifa should start over Tieg).
So, if we’ve 3 boppers on the bench, that’s 40 mins each max, with 4 boppers on the bench, 30 mins each max. Can we afford to throw another $600k to cover those 40 mins (effectively making him worth $1.2m over 80 mins). It’s not as simple as that in reality, but that back of a androtop packet maths means at $600k, they’re the same value per minute as AFB.
All that being said, I actually think I’d be willing to do it for Tommy, but only if we weren’t also paying an over inflated salary to BHU and Toby.

Effectively we have gained AFB in a straight swap for Atkinson and Tommy combined $$ wise. Tommy and Atko won’t win you a comp but AFB certainly can and will. Flange is still pissed that we jagged AFB from under his nose. He was always going to be looking to try and f**k us over. Upside is we still have them both for depth this year and another year to find or promote alternatives to fill those gaps. I don’t begrudge either of them for almost doubling their salaries along the way. Who wouldn’t? I think part of the problem in our minds is the fact they’re going to the putrid goons.

Understand your point. But to be fair he had arguably his best season last year i personally think with Atkinson coming he will move to 14 or lock next year he has bulked up a fair bit good defender.

Fair enough….did hear he’s had a big offseason and is chomping at the bit for the season to start. Good luck for the year ahead mate.

Yeah he has i saw him at a fan day he has bulked up quite a bit he looked good also in the opposed session. Likewise with you guys i actually think you guys are a smokey to win the comp
