Rumoured / Confirmed Signings

Just wondering how many here would be happy if we had signed Tommy for 600k a season?
About as happy as I am with BHU and Toby on $600k a season.

Signing AFB means restructuring the investments across the group. OK is a must re-sign as he complements AFB best as a starter. AFB has the rare combination of power, X factor and motor. OK has the motor and defensive discipline to be an effective starting combo.

Tom has a bit of X in that he can find the tryline and has some passing to his game. He was developing motor but has a long way to go. He might be worth $600k to a struggling team as a guaranteed starter. I would have OK over him in the Sharks system by a fair margin.

BHU is a rotation option for AFB, assuming AFB plays 55 to 60 min a game, that leaves BHU 20 to 25. BHU has the power (assuming he finds full fitness) to keep challenging the defence.

Toby is a worker option who can rotate with OK to keep the defensive intensity up.

Tuks becomes the power runner to develop into a more rounded player.

Hopefully JC can string some games together. From there, hopefully some younger players can come through to build experience. Middle depth is key in a long season.

Tom has made a career decision and good luck to him. The Sharks made a cap decision and that is fair enough. Personally, I would lose no sleep if Toby or BHU left instead of Tom but that's not how it played out.

How long have we been saying that for?
I'm not holding my breath.

In fairness though, he looked the fittest he has in years the other night.
But he still looked a way short of "dominating the NRL". His words, not mine.

I think in hindsight we've overpaid for both Toby and BHU. Toby struggles for both consistency and improvement. He's a hundred gamer but most people would probably agree his first season with us was his best.

BHU struggles for consistency and the ability to string games together. He has the ability on his day to match it with any prop in the competition but has had a wretched run with injuries.

As others have said the timing is unfortunate because at the moment he's ahead of both Toby and BHU. He's has played less than half the games they have and has time on his side.

I will be surprised if we re-sign both Toby and BHU again.

As it stands right now, who would you rather keep, BHU and Toby or Jack Williams and Tom for 50% - 75% of the cost? It's Jack and Tom for me.

Too long is the short answer.

I like BHU's skill set. At his best he can be a game breaker. He is not consistent enough and has not been available enough. I suspect he will grow a lot playing with AFB. AFB will set a higher standard the others will want to match.

I am not fussed if Hazelton goes he plays well in our system, that role will be Tuku going forward.
Kaufisi is younger then Hazelton and I think is really coming into his own.
Tuku can take next step.
Talakai is a forward now.
Crouch, McCullough, Faatili all coming through the system

BHU and Toby owe the Club big time. The Club has shown faith in them. They have greatly disappointed. We need BHU in particular to really shine this season. It’s his best chance as he’s fitter, had a full preseason and we have added an Alpha prop to the team.

He hasn’t really had a pre season the last few years so this is the first one in a while. Will make a huge difference imo.

Just needs no more injuries

I like Hazelton and think he is worth close to the $600 elsewhere and $500+ to us but It all comes back to the horrible deal for BHU he is a $300k low min bench middle

This 100%. You only have to look at Taulmolololo who turned back the clock about 7 or 8 years in the recent test series when playing alongside AFB. Shouldn’t be this way (relying on a gun player/leader)but we haven’t had a true leader in the pack since Gal. And no offence to Gal as he was heart and soul and a club legend but he is nothing on AFB.

I have always said, JT13 became half the player when Matt Scott retired. He needs another great bopper for play 1, that he can then run off…. Hopefully we get a similar boost.

Yep then it’s a flow on…..and before you know it the halves are playing against a backpedaling side. May be proven wrong but don’t believe we’ve ever made a more important signing (assuming he stays fit).
