Anyone who thinks the Panthers will be anything but a force in a few years time, has rocks in their head.

The fact is that they have the best crop of Juniors in Rugby League coming through the ranks. From under 20's down, the depth at that club is insane.

Now that they are not tying all their money up in the likes of Carney or Thurston, they should easily be able to compete with any offers made to these younger blokes and fend off any poachers. If this is the case and even half these guys translate into good first graders, the amount of depth at that club in 2 or 3 years time will be unbelievable.

While I agree with you, similar stuff was said a few years ago when they had the likes of Masada Iosefa, Wade Graham, etc coming through the grades. They didn't really have a first grade coach who could nurture their talent though.

we have had good junior sides before but this u20 team is a far better group of players than we have ever had.We have had teams with outstanding players but never a group where 7 or 8 will definatly hit first grade

Oh please. That's what everyone was saying about the Warriors a couple of years ago and the Baby Broncos before that. And all that hysteria fizzled out.

A significant percentage of all promising up and comers don't make it in 1st grade. EVERYONE in Toyota cup is a talent, the statistics on how many of them play an NRL game and how many of those play a lot of games is extremely low.

Of all these boom youngsters Penrith has a big chunk won't make it to 1st grade, another will get to 1st grade but then be exposed at that level and disappear. And then of those that do make it a percentage will be lured away by other clubs.

People need to stop with this "emerging superclub" hysteria. The salary cap is designed to stop precisely that.

Same stuff was said years ago and Penrith always find new and exciting ways to f**k up any promise they have. Spending their cap in a panic, reactionary manner on young & exciting juniors is what put them in trouble now in the first place they should already be a force but for mismanagement.

Having performers in lower grades is no guarantee to any success. I remember our Flegg team that shit on everyone week in week out 10 years ago that resulted in about 3 or 4 making a consistent career with Jamie Soward being the "best"

I hope they do sort it out though and become a regular up the top for a few seasons it's been far too long for them.

Premiership 10 seasons ago. Top 4 3 seasons ago.

Half the comp couldn't claim that.

Parra have offered Matt Keating an extension on his contract for 1 year but Penrith and Canberra are keen on him.

Most of the administration responsible for that has been moved on. Hoping that trend stays in the past.

I'm hearing Carney to the Panthers is a done deal.

After Soward it looks like they're balancing that out with some actual talent in their halves for 2014.

Also seeing as these would both be long term moves, it is interesting that for all their talk about developing juniors they don't see a single up and coming halves player in the entire Penrith district.

Thanks for getting Todd over the line at Cronulla mate. You put the finishing touches on the Panthers.

BM strikes again you would have a 49% higher success rate if you simply tossed a coin*

What about the other 8 years of crap? Half the comp probably can't claim a wooden spoon either

The point is that Penrith never seem to sustain consistency it's always a year or two before falling back towards the spoon.

Penrith have had an enormous network of juniors almost since their inception.
Their issue has always been conversion into top grade talent.
They got it right during the Fittler/Geyer and co era. So much potential there. If they can get right they would/should be a powerhouse club.
