There are plenty of players still off contract because they're all holding out for massively increased contracts due to the new TV deal.

Once all the top earners and bottom earners are sorted out, we'll start to see the blokes in the middle realise what they're worth and sign contracts.

I reckon there will be a few backup-quality players in their mid 20s missing out because their roster slots are taken by NYC graduates on minimum wage.

The salary cap increase has everyone thinking they're worth more but in reality that increase will all be taken up by the top earners and the bottom earners (since minimum salary has increased by $25k).

Does anyone know if there has been an increase to the second tier cap?

I like some of the juniors coming through but we need to be our there signing some quality players in several positions I don't think our lower grade guys are particularly strong in.

We need a hooker and possibly a halfback and we definitely need some outside backs.

I wouldnt sign anyone over 27.But thats just me.
I think next year we will improve but still wont be a threat.More like 2015 onwards.I guess if its just wingers than you can easily reaplce them with another guy of same age but as for hooker i wouldnt want to be having the same problem every year.
Id consider Mitch Rein.Like the look of that kid.Maybe would be worth the risk??

On the Glen Stewart thing, I'm kind of glad we didn't get him to be honest. I think he is a terrific player obviously, but he hasn't come back all that well from his last injury and has had a lot of tough footy over the years. I think he is beginning to look like a bit of a risk at that price.

The player I would go all out for in the off season would be Trent Merrin. He is coming off contract next year and for mine the best ball playing back rower in the game today bar none and still very young and has his best footy days still ahead of him. In fact he is coming into the peak years of his career.

He for mine is the kind of player you offer overs for. Blair on the other hand is not worth the risk at all, unless he is willing to except 200-250k. Anything more than that is total gambling stupidity and even that amount I am reticent to offer him really. The guy at present is playing way to woeful and has been playing like this for way to long to be considered a good risk.

Save that money and throw the kitchen sink at a pedigree like Trent Merrin. That is the type of recruiting our club should be going full on in achieving.

I agree with all of that.

I've never heard of him but will immediately assume he has been signed to play first grade straight away...

1. Hayne
2. Moimoi
3. Hopoate
4. Morgan
5. Sio
6. Norman
7. Sandow
8. Mannah
9. Buderus
10. Mossop
11. Hock
12. Tongarockasamoa
13. Terepo

14. Pritchard
15. Loko
16. Lussick
17. Allgood

Moi Moi would be better on the right wing with Loko on the left.

Honestly, it's the best way to go.

The fastest way to change the culture is to boot almost everyone and start with a fresh bunch.

We should only keep (from the first grade squad):
Hayne
Tanginoa
Loko
Morgan
Mannah
Terepo
Moi Moi
Lussick
Pritchard

Bring in 16 new faces to complement these guys, spend the off-season getting a more professional attitude about the place and we'll see a massive improvement.

[Yes, I'd consider keeping Sandow, Allgood, Williame, Junior Paulo, Toutai - but only after exhausting the other options!]

I know, I know, salary cap constraints etc make my dream almost impossible. But a man can dream can't he?
