I'm talking about his last 2 years with us.
Definitely didn't put in for his mates.
Show some respect for our jersey Avenger! Don't give hollow respect to cats who didn't try. That's why the club is in the position it's in now.
I don't reckon Burt ever fully recovered mentally from his 2007 injury, and as he aged, his attitude became more "professional" and less "passionate".
There was a quote on this board after about 5 rounds along the lines of " there are 19 players off contract at the end of 2014 and Ricky only thinks 3 of them are worth resigning".
I would begrudge him, because there's a dozen other players at state cup level who make more sense to sign for the same cash.
For example: someone who can play wing normally, and fill in at FB in a pinch.
Fullback cover for Origin time isn't a pressing concern for us when we have Norman and Hoppa in the squad. And if it was a pressing concern for us, we'd be best served signing someone who can actually play FB, rather than Mullaney, who can only play the attacking part.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was post 07 when Burt scored that individual chip n chase try against the broncos... No one ever suggested he was a world beater but the bloke always played above his weight and continually scored points right up to his retirement... I appreciate the bloke more now, than back then given our crap our wingers are now.

I agree with this but I can also see where OMC is coming from. Burt's form dipped a little in his last few seasons, no doubt about it.
I don't think anyone would dispute that. But there's a difference between dropping in form as you get older and simply not putting in.
While you are at it Stagger can you sort out something with Louis Takarangi as well?
I was thinking Gulio Pomponio.

I don't think Burt didn't try. He just knew his limitations as a footballer. People criticized him for not taking hitups in early in a set, but what's the point when he got smashed back 5 metres every time.
