I'm talking about his last 2 years with us.

Definitely didn't put in for his mates.

Show some respect for our jersey Avenger! Don't give hollow respect to cats who didn't try. That's why the club is in the position it's in now.

I don't reckon Burt ever fully recovered mentally from his 2007 injury, and as he aged, his attitude became more "professional" and less "passionate".

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was post 07 when Burt scored that individual chip n chase try against the broncos... No one ever suggested he was a world beater but the bloke always played above his weight and continually scored points right up to his retirement... I appreciate the bloke more now, than back then given our crap our wingers are now.

Burt is a true legend of this club, he may never have played origin or a test match but he's right up there with Hindy, Caylo, Sterlo, Pricey and Crow IMO. True club man who gave his all for the team.

There was a quote on this board after about 5 rounds along the lines of " there are 19 players off contract at the end of 2014 and Ricky only thinks 3 of them are worth resigning".

I hope that is correct. There were some players last night mainly forwards that aren't on the list bandied around should follow those players.

I would begrudge him, because there's a dozen other players at state cup level who make more sense to sign for the same cash.

For example: someone who can play wing normally, and fill in at FB in a pinch.

Fullback cover for Origin time isn't a pressing concern for us when we have Norman and Hoppa in the squad. And if it was a pressing concern for us, we'd be best served signing someone who can actually play FB, rather than Mullaney, who can only play the attacking part.

Perhaps Mullaney is also being thought of as a backup half given Kelly and Roberts appear to be on the outer.

I agree with this but I can also see where OMC is coming from. Burt's form dipped a little in his last few seasons, no doubt about it.

I don't think Burt didn't try. He just knew his limitations as a footballer. People criticized him for not taking hitups in early in a set, but what's the point when he got smashed back 5 metres every time.

I don't think anyone would dispute that. But there's a difference between dropping in form as you get older and simply not putting in.

We are talking about Parra FFS!

There were definitely games that he played in where he didn't put in. Pretty much every Parra Player in the last 5 years (with the possible exception of Hindy) has been guilty of that at times.

We have turned it into a fine art over the last three years but even before that we could roll over and pIss ourselves with the best of them.

When the eels were in form and towards the top of the table, burt was always in form, scoring lots of tries and rarely any one whinging about him .... but when we were crap, Burt was always a scapegoat with plenty calling for his sacking. Wonder if our wingers are experiencing the same.

I was thinking Gulio Pomponio.

Joe Bartolo anyone?

On a serious note, watching Frank-Paul Nuasala tonight we are seriously stupid if we dont chase him. He alone is as good as our current front row combined.

Ai yai yai.

I picked the wrong example (was the most famous one I could think of).

This is the point I was upset with for the last few years. In his earlier years, Burt was outstanding scooting from dummy half around bigger forwards and making meterage.
Wingers job is to take early hitups in a set to ease the burden on the forwards.
I don't care the reason that he 'professionally' thought he shouldn't take them, [for me atleast]
the attitude reflected a lack of passion in the jersey. "Someone else can make the meters because I'm too small". Uh? Put in for the team.

Wrong bloke to talk about. I should've picked on someone else - my apologies all.

Lachlan coote would be guy im chasing. He is excess at penrith. Wont cost a fortune.
Can play fullback 5/8 and wing and I reckon he would make a very good hooker.
He gives 100% and is young. Anyones heard any whispers about him coming across??
